Just as Charles Yin was about to speak, Sean Kerr interrupted him. "Charles, can I ask you for a favor? For the sake of our years growing up together, for my sake, please treat Sylvia a little better! I’m not asking you to be wonderful to her right away, but at least give her a chance! Let yourself see your own heart clearly! Isn’t that fair to everyone?"
Charles Yin looked at Sean Kerr. Facing the childhood friend he’d grown up with, he really couldn’t say anything.
He knew it very well in his heart.
He once liked Sylvia Ran; he’d once been crazy about her.
But all that was in the past.
If Sylvia Ran hadn’t left without a word, but had left a letter asking him to wait for six years, maybe he would have waited.
But Sylvia Ran didn’t.
She left just like that, never considering Charles Yin’s feelings.
Afterwards, Charles Yin nearly turned all of Europe upside down looking for her.
If Sylvia Ran had shown even a shred of compassion, if she’d left even a few words behind, maybe Charles Yin wouldn’t have become so despondent.
But Sylvia Ran didn’t.
Sylvia Ran just watched Charles Yin go mad, coldly standing by as if she didn’t care at all.
Back then, Sylvia Ran was only eighteen! And Charles Yin was just twenty-two.
They gave each other their best years, and also their deepest pain.
Six years. A full six years have passed.
Just when Charles Yin had finally cut Sylvia Ran out of his heart, she appeared again.
Fair? What’s fair about this?
If you want to talk about fairness, was any of this ever fair to Charles Yin?
These thoughts churned inside Charles Yin, but he couldn’t say them out loud.
He knew better than anyone how he survived those years.
It’s because he once loved her that he doesn’t want to ruin those beautiful memories now.
He couldn’t refuse Sean Kerr’s request.
Sean Kerr rarely argued or competed with him for anything, ever since they were kids.
Charles Yin actually knew that back then, Sean Kerr liked Sylvia Ran too. But when Sean realized Charles liked her, he chose to step back and let Charles have a chance.
With a friend like that, it was really hard for Charles Yin to refuse him anything.
Especially since Sean Kerr wasn’t asking Charles to get back together with Sylvia Ran, just to give her a chance…
Seeing Charles Yin’s struggle, Sean Kerr frowned slightly and said, "Charles, do you think I’m meddling? I just don’t want you to miss out on the love that’s truly yours. You like Cecilia Gu, but does Cecilia like you?"
That question hit the mark.
Charles Yin’s heart sank.
He really couldn’t be sure about Cecilia Gu’s feelings.
Just as Charles Yin had never confessed his feelings to Cecilia Gu, Cecilia had never admitted any feelings to him either!
What Charles Yin could be sure of was that he definitely liked Cecilia Gu.
But he couldn’t be sure if Cecilia Gu really liked him…
After all, from the very first day they met, Cecilia had always seemed cold and distant.
Sometimes, Charles Yin even got jealous of Zach Zhao, because he once had Cecilia Gu’s purest love!
Sean Kerr saw that his words had worked, and continued, "Since that’s how you feel, think about my suggestion! By the way, didn’t you buy a villa today? I’ll be heading back in a few days, and I’m not comfortable with Sylvia being out there alone. Let her stay at your villa. Besides, you’re setting up a new branch here, and Sylvia can help you out. Ask yourself what you truly want—give yourself a chance, and give Sylvia a chance too!"
At this point, Sean Kerr spoke earnestly to Charles Yin. "Charles, Sylvia’s been hurt before. Even if you two can’t be together again, don’t hurt her, okay?"
Charles Yin thought about it. Maybe Sean Kerr’s suggestion wasn’t so bad.
If he kept Sylvia Ran close, Cecilia Gu would definitely react when she saw them together.
If her reaction was intense, maybe he could finally figure out how she really felt about him.
Thinking of this, Charles Yin didn’t refuse. He said, "Alright, don’t worry. Even if Sylvia Ran and I don’t get back together, I won’t let anyone bully her!"
Sean Kerr relaxed when he heard Charles Yin’s answer.
"That’s good. You should get some rest. I won’t bother you anymore!" Sean Kerr patted Charles Yin’s arm. "I’m heading back tomorrow! Rona said she’s worried about Cecilia Gu, so she’ll stay here for a few more days. I’m leaving her in your care!"
Charles Yin smiled and patted Sean Kerr’s arm in return. "After talking about my stuff, what about you? Are you really not planning to clear things up with Rona Muir?"
Sean Kerr smiled and shook his head. "It’s not the right time yet."
"Alright, I respect your choice." Charles Yin chuckled. "You don’t have to worry here—no one will bother her, as long as she doesn’t bother anyone else."
Maybe it was the exhausting day, or all the things that happened, but when Cecilia Gu woke up, it was already late morning.
As soon as Cecilia Gu got up, a maid came in to take care of her.
Cecilia Gu was startled and couldn’t help but ask, "Why are you here?"
This maid wasn’t a stranger—she was one of the regular household staff.
The maid smiled and explained, "Mrs. Yin, we’re all here now! The CEO said we’d be staying here for a while, and he was worried you wouldn’t be comfortable with new people, so he brought all of us over. The housekeeper and two others stayed behind, but Mrs. Zhang and the rest of us are here! Mrs. Yin, may I help you freshen up?"
Cecilia Gu was stunned for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
"Mrs. Yin, the CEO said that after breakfast, you should go check out our new home. If there’s anything missing, just let us know." The maid said earnestly, "Mrs. Zhang already took the others over to tidy up the rooms. We can move in today."
Charles Yin already bought the house?
That was fast!
But living in someone else’s house was always inconvenient.
Cecilia Gu quietly nodded.
Just after she finished washing up, Rona Muir came in dragging her suitcase.
"Ahahaha… I can finally live with you! No one can bother me now! My boss is finally out of here! I’m free!" Rona Muir spun around Cecilia Gu’s room a few times, then flopped onto the sofa, rolling around in delight. "Now I can finally go flirt with hot guys!"
Cecilia Gu sat at the dining table as the maid brought breakfast. After a few sips of porridge, she said, "I’m surprised Sean Kerr actually left you here alone."
"What do you mean?" Rona Muir sat up, scoffing. "It means my reputation has finally gone up in value!"
Cecilia Gu just smiled without saying anything.
Cecilia hadn’t eaten much when she heard a knock at the door.
Cecilia Gu and Rona Muir both looked up, and saw Sylvia Ran standing at the door in a flowing white dress. "Cici, you’re up? I just came to see how your packing is going. We’ll be moving soon!"
We?
Cecilia Gu froze.
A flash of pride flickered in Sylvia Ran’s eyes, but her face wore an expression that was hard to refuse. "Honestly, I was fine staying at Qiao Qi’s place! There are plenty of rooms there too. But Charles insisted I move in with you all—said it’d be livelier and we could handle business and personal matters together. Oh, and you probably don’t know yet, but I’m now the Marketing Manager for Yin Enterprises’ K City branch. Looks like I’ll be working with Charles from now on! Ugh, it’s a bit awkward working with someone so familiar!"
Listening to Sylvia Ran, Cecilia Gu and Rona Muir were speechless.
"Well, since you’re up, make the most of your time. I’m off to meet Charles and see what the house still needs—gotta get everything sorted! Cici, if you need anything, just tell me. You’re not feeling well, but I’m quick on my feet, so it’s easy for me to shop." Sylvia put on the air of a hostess, and after saying this, she turned and left briskly.
Cecilia Gu’s good appetite vanished instantly.
Rona Muir crossed her arms and said, "Ha! Every time I see Sylvia Ran, I feel so frustrated! All those clients’ wives used to treat me like a thief! Please, just because I’m busty doesn’t mean I’m desperate! Today I’ve learned that being desperate has nothing to do with looks! Sylvia’s declaring war on you, Cici—you can’t lose to her!"
Cecilia Gu lowered her eyes and quietly looked at her food. "Declare war? She probably doesn’t even see me as an enemy. Without Charles Yin’s approval, how could Sylvia Ran move into the villa, or become the Marketing Manager for the K City branch?"
Rona Muir was speechless for a moment.
It was true—without Charles Yin’s approval, Sylvia Ran wouldn’t be so bold.
Rona Muir thought back to what she’d seen last night, and the more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt.
If Sylvia Ran likes Charles Yin so much, why was she clinging to Sean Kerr last night?
Rona Muir instinctively disliked Sylvia Ran.
"Whatever, let him do as he pleases," Cecilia Gu said softly.
But even as she said that, her appetite still didn’t return.
Cecilia Gu simply put down her chopsticks and stopped eating.
"So maybe your decision is the right one." Rona Muir said seriously. "Cici, if you really choose to leave, I’ll support you!"
"Thank you." Cecilia Gu gave Rona Muir a gentle smile and changed the subject. "By the way, I’ve never asked—how did you become Vice President of Odyssey Corporation? I barely know anything about you!"
Rona Muir sighed helplessly. "That’s a story that hurts just thinking about it! My father was Sean Kerr’s graduate advisor. When Sean was in graduate school, I was in college. One time he visited my father at home, and I mistook him for a thief. Then… he inexplicably told my father that my major would make it hard to find a job, but not to worry—he’d help me out."
"After I graduated, before I could even send out my résumé, the school notified me that Odyssey Corporation had requested my file. So I ended up at Odyssey, and somehow became a manager." Rona said helplessly.
