Although Miles Gu is only four years old, he clearly understands the feelings Cecilia Gu and the others have for him.
He’s also gotten used to living alongside the people he knows best.
In Miles Gu’s heart, Cecilia Gu is his real mother.
Cecilia Gu not only gave him her surname, but also the status of Yin Family’s young master, inheritance rights, and the same love as Ethan Yin.
Most importantly, he loves having Cecilia Gu as his mom.
He can’t bear to see his mom sad, disappointed, or upset.
He never really had a chance to say these things before.
But thanks to Ethan Yin’s outburst, he finally said it openly and honestly.
Ethan Yin’s eyes were swollen from crying. He stared blankly at Miles Gu and asked, “Are you serious?”
Miles Gu nodded hard. “Didn’t we agree? We’ll always be family. One day, I’ll even marry my little sister.”
Ethan Yin immediately cheered up.
Cecilia Gu, on the other hand, looked awkward and exasperated.
Marrying my little sister... Can we talk about this kind of thing in private, please?
Besides, I haven’t even had a daughter yet!
Hmm, since I dote on Miles Gu so much, maybe I should have a daughter too—then it’d be ‘homegrown and self-supplied,’ haha...
Charles Yin’s eyes were practically burning with excitement!
Honey, look here, look here—let’s go make a little sister!
Now everyone was in a good mood.
But Captain Hans said to Lina, “You want to trade your identity for your life? The world isn’t that simple. Since my men brought you here, you’re my hostage. No one’s paying your ransom, but you can work to earn your keep. My base needs intelligence staff—if you want to survive, use your skills to earn enough value for me. Otherwise, no deal.”
Captain Hans really is a shrewd businessman.
As soon as it was clear that Count Field didn’t want Lina, Captain Hans instantly switched to his shrewd businessman mode and started calculating everything to the last detail.
But Lina didn’t mind at all.
As a secret agent, she was used to this kind of thing.
The scariest thing for a person isn’t being used—it’s losing your value.
As long as you’re still useful, it means you can keep living.
See, this is the fundamental difference between Lina and Cecilia Gu.
One chases survival at the bottom of the pyramid; the other pursues spiritual growth at the very top.
That’s why Miles Gu is honestly much better off with Cecilia Gu than with Lina.
So Captain Hans quickly decided to inject Lina with a drug that controls the body. After a few days of rest, she’d officially start her intelligence work.
Lina turned to Miles Gu and said, “Maybe we’ll never see each other again after this. Can you stay with me for a few days?”
Miles Gu looked over at Cecilia Gu, who gave a gentle nod.
As mothers, Cecilia Gu really couldn’t bring herself to keep Miles Gu from seeing Lina.
Only then did Miles Gu say to Lina, “Okay.”
Everyone else left, leaving Miles Gu and Lina alone together.
Since Lina was now under Captain Hans’s protection, her living conditions had improved a lot.
After the injection, Lina could move around much more freely, and she was able to explore most of the base with Miles Gu.
Suddenly facing his biological mother, Miles Gu felt all kinds of awkward.
Cecilia Gu wasn’t much of a talker, but she often expressed her feelings through gestures.
But Lina... she really wasn’t used to anyone being within three feet of her.
She’d instinctively tense up and, as a reflex, could even hurt the person next to her.
So Miles Gu and Lina always kept a safe distance of one meter between them—trying to bond under those conditions was laughable.
During a meal, Lina said to Miles Gu, “Sorry, I don’t know how to cook.”
Miles Gu lowered his eyes and replied, “It’s okay. Whether it’s Dad or Father, they both have their own chefs.”
Lina felt a pang of sadness. “If you go to the Field Family, does Cecilia Gu agree?”
“She agrees.” Miles Gu still answered with his eyes downcast.
It wasn’t that Miles Gu didn’t want to get close to her—it was that he simply couldn’t.
Lina was a little surprised. “Doesn’t Cecilia Gu care about you a lot?”
Only then did Miles Gu look up at Lina. “Mom visits me regularly in England. And it’s only a few hours from China to England—the Yin Family has their own private jet.”
“Does the Field Family agree?” Lina suddenly felt even more envious and jealous of Cecilia Gu.
“They agree.” Miles Gu continued, “Father promised. Mom can visit England anytime, anywhere.”
Well, that’s the difference between them.
With a secret agent’s perspective, Lina had already figured it out.
No wonder Count Field wouldn’t accept her as the child’s mother—so that’s why...
“I get it now.” Lina gave a bitter smile. “This is for the best.”
The two of them spent the next few days together in quiet calm.
Most of the time, Lina was teaching Miles Gu some survival skills for the real world.
For a secret agent, surviving any crisis and getting intelligence out is absolutely crucial.
Lina might not know much else, but when it comes to survival, she’s the best there is.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have made it this far—still alive while being hunted by both sides.
That really is a skill.
So whether Miles Gu understood or not, Lina recorded all her lessons on camera and handed them over to him.
“That’s all I can teach you. The rest, I’m sure Count Field and the Yin Family will cover. I can’t teach you the arts of royal strategy—you’ll have to figure that out yourself.” On the last day, Lina said to Miles Gu, “Captain Hans is very cunning. Don’t trust him completely. But if he can teach you something, learn well.”
Cecilia Gu looked up at Lina. “Where will you go?”
Lina gave a bitter smile. “As an intelligence officer, I’ve always traveled the world. In a few days, I’ll have cosmetic surgery and take on a brand new identity. Miles Gu, you may have been an accidental child, but I don’t regret having you.”
“Thank you... Mother.” Miles Gu finally acknowledged Lina’s identity.

A mist of tears welled up in Lina’s beautiful eyes.
But she quickly composed herself, patted Miles Gu, and said, “Grow up well. Don’t let me down.”
Miles Gu nodded.
Lina disappeared the next day.
Miles Gu didn’t ask where Lina went—she’d gone wherever she needed to go.
Cecilia Gu peeked carefully into Miles Gu’s room, but he immediately looked up and saw her. “Mom?”
Cecilia Gu sighed, walked in, and sat right down on Miles Gu’s bed. “Tonight, Mom’s sleeping with you.”
Miles Gu happily hugged Cecilia Gu’s arm and nodded enthusiastically.
It’s been so long since I slept with Mom... I’m so happy!
Cecilia Gu lay in bed with Miles Gu, slowly combing his beautiful short hair.
“Are you feeling down?” Cecilia Gu noticed Miles Gu seemed a little low these past few days and couldn’t help but ask, “If you have any thoughts, just tell Mom. If I can do it, I’ll make it happen for you.”
“Mom, you’ll always be my mom, right?” Miles Gu asked softly.
“Of course!” Cecilia Gu answered firmly. Not only his mom, but his future mother-in-law too.
Emma, why do I suddenly want a daughter so much?
And then I could marry my own daughter to Miles Gu—raising my own son-in-law wouldn’t be so bad!
Emma, the more I think about it, the more excited I get—what should I do?
“Then I’m not scared anymore.” Miles Gu looked up, his eyes sparkling at Cecilia Gu. “Mom, are you really not mad that I spent time with... my mother?”
Miles Gu clearly distinguished between his dad and father, and his mom and mother.
Cecilia Gu shook her head. “Why would I be mad? Without Lina, there wouldn’t be you. I’m actually very grateful to her. If she’d chosen to abort you back then, I wouldn’t have such a wonderful son now. So, I’m not angry at all. But Miles Gu, have you really let go of things between you and her?”
Miles Gu nodded. “Mother told me, even if she wanted me, she couldn’t be with me every day. She said it’s easy to enter the world but hard to leave it. Since she chose this path, there’s no turning back. So she taught me a lot of survival skills, hoping they’ll help me someday. Maybe this was the last and only time we’ll ever spend together. When we parted, it was calm. Mom, am I useless? I couldn’t even keep my own birth mother.”
Cecilia Gu was stunned for a moment, then gently stroked Miles Gu’s head and said, “No, my Miles Gu could never be useless. Your mother is right—everyone must walk the path they choose, even if it means crawling. Just like me: I chose Charles, I chose you all, so I have to give up the responsibilities I once had and take on those that belong to you. It’s the path I chose, so I’ll keep going, no matter what. Miles Gu, you and Ethan Yin are still young—your journey is just beginning. Remember what Mom says: when you grow up, whatever path you choose, make sure it’s the right one before you start. Because once you choose, you often can’t go back.”
Miles Gu nodded hard. “Mom, I’ll remember.”
Cecilia Gu gently hugged Miles Gu and started chatting about other things to distract him.
Finally, Miles Gu drifted off to sleep.
