Old Monsters

"Quinn, you mustn't go to intercept High Heaven this time," Granny Sue said quietly.

Quinn Shepherd was busy refining spirit pills and feeding the flood dragons. Since he was heading far from home, he needed to prepare extra medicine. Startled by Granny Sue's words, he smiled, "Granny, I'm the one who invited them here—how could I not go?"

Granny Sue shook her head. "You're only at the Six Directions Treasury. If you don't go, no one will blame you. This battle—High Heaven may send everything they've got. There aren't just the Four Lords of High Heaven, there are other gods too... If we lose, go back to the Great Ruins and never come out again for the rest of your life."

Quinn Shepherd fell silent, about to reply, when suddenly the Village Chief's voice rang out from afar: "Old Granny Sue, don't mind him—let him come along!"

Granny Sue glanced at the Village Chief and a crowd of old men and women, all laughing together. She couldn't help but flare up: "Quinn Shepherd's cultivation is still too low. Even if he goes, he won't be any use!"

Quinn Shepherd shook his head and activated the Dragon Command Technique. Each flood dragon shifted shape, growing into a colossal beast several miles long. The crowd climbed onto the dragons' backs.

The Village Chief looked back, grinning. "Someone has to collect the corpses, right, Granny?"

Granny Sue was momentarily stunned and said nothing more.

Someone has to collect the corpses—whether they're the enemy's or our own.

In the distance, a crowd of old men and women burst into laughter. The Village Chief and his old comrades chatted freely. Rocky Clayborne began telling tales of their youthful blunders, making everyone roar with laughter—their faces flushed with joy.

Quinn Shepherd rode with the Village Chief and others on one dragon. He kept glancing at the Village Chief, finally unable to hold back and asked in a low voice, "Village Chief, have you finished repairing your Divine Bridge Treasury?"
