Finally Meeting

1/18/2026

Yvonne Jiang wore a flowing white dress, her ethereal aura tinged with a hint of aloof pride. As her gaze slowly swept across the crowd, most people felt an invisible pressure—even though her cultivation wasn’t actually that high, just late Nascent Soul stage.

After a long pause, Yvonne finally spoke: "Are you willing to give your life for me? If you are, stand to the left; if not, move to the right!"

"Rustle, rustle, rustle!"

Immediately, a large group of people stepped to the left, leaving only a little more than ten on the right—Ian Song among them.

"Tell me, why aren't you willing to give your life for me?"

Yvonne pointed at one of the cultivators on the right and asked.

The guard replied, "I applied to be a bodyguard, not a death-soldier. Sure, the City Lord’s Mansion pays well, but compared to my life, the salary is cheap. Of course, if the Young Miss is in danger, I’ll do everything I can to protect her!"

Yvonne didn’t comment on his answer. Instead, she pointed at another person and asked, "And you? Do you feel the same way?"

That person said, "The Young Miss’s status is certainly noble, but it’s not so exalted that I’d pledge my life for her at first meeting."

At this, the faces of those standing on the left changed. They started to sense something was off. To be honest, most of them hadn’t truly meant to die for Yvonne Jiang—they only stood there to curry favor and boost their chances of being selected.

"And you? Why aren’t you willing?"

Yvonne pointed at Ian Song and asked.

Ian smiled. "Compared to the Young Miss’s life, I still think my own is more precious."

Yvonne stopped asking questions and waved her hand. "Let the others leave. The thirteen remaining will be my personal guards from now on!"

Hearing this, the group on the left couldn’t help but regret it.

If they’d known, they wouldn’t have tried to play clever.

Of the thirteen chosen, besides Ian Song, there were four Deity Transformation cultivators and eight at late Nascent Soul stage.

After picking her guards, Yvonne Jiang left.

Then Howard Jiang, the steward, led Ian Song and the other twelve to a large compound with dozens of suites. As guards, they could each pick a room to stay in.

There were also standard-issue robes and magical equipment for everyone.
