Deceiving Faye for the Netherghost Violet Orchid Part Two
Evan Chu thought he must be seeing things, so he deliberately looked at Faye Knox again and confirmed there was mist in her eyes. He felt an inexplicable surge of emotion—was his luck with women really this good? Could he just win over any girl so easily?
"I'm actually a pretty kind person. Most of what I said to you was just to get a rise out of you. You know how they say, 'A dying man's words are always good.' You really are beautiful—the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Before I die, could you grant me one last wish?" Evan said, putting on his best conman act and pretending he was about to collapse at any moment.
Faye Knox glanced at Evan’s current state, her voice a little choked: "Just say it. As long as it’s not too much, I’ll agree. You did save my life, so I owe you that much."
Evan knew exactly what Faye meant by 'too much.' If he asked her for a kiss right now, or to become his woman on the spot, she would never agree.
"I really don’t have any wild requests. I just hope you’ll let me see the Netherghost Violet Orchid. My sister needs it, and after I’m gone, I want you to deliver it to her for me. I know it’s a lot to ask, but I have no other choice. I didn’t expect the viper’s poison to be this strong, and with the injuries I took earlier, I’m almost out of time." Evan finished, then sat down heavily on the ground.
Faye immediately took out a purple crystal from her storage ring, something that looked a bit like an Iceflame Crystal, and walked over to Evan. "Here, take the Netherghost Violet Orchid. I believe you’ll survive—because I don’t think you’re really a bad person!"
It was Evan’s first time seeing the Netherghost Violet Orchid, and he was so excited he almost burst out laughing. Doing his best to keep his composure, he took the orchid and said, "Thank you, Fifi. You’re not just beautiful, you’re kind too. If I want to survive, there’s one way: I’ll need to stay underground and absorb heaven and earth spiritual qi. It might take a while, so you’d better leave first. If I somehow don’t die, I’ll definitely come find you."
As soon as Evan finished, he stashed the Netherghost Violet Orchid in his storage ring, afraid Faye might change her mind and make things complicated. Who would’ve thought such a beautiful woman could be so easily tricked? He almost admired himself for it.
"Heaven and earth spiritual qi? What’s that? I’ve never heard of it," Faye said suspiciously, eyeing Evan. She wasn’t sure if he was telling the truth, but she didn’t object to him calling her Fifi.
"Fifi, I can’t delay any longer, or it’ll really be too late for me. Please forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye. Of course, if you want to stay, you can. I might be able to come out in seven days." Evan said.
"I understand. Go ahead! You're the most mysterious man I've ever met, and I have things I need to do too. I hope I can see you again in Grimchart City!" Faye glanced at Evan, then turned her face away so he wouldn’t see the tears spilling from her eyes.
Evan was overjoyed—he’d finally tricked the Netherghost Violet Orchid out of her. If he’d asked directly, she probably wouldn’t have given it to him; good thing he was clever. "Take care!" he said simply, then immediately used Earthshift to burrow into the ground.
Right now, Evan was dying to see what was so special about the Netherghost Violet Orchid—how could it help someone break through to the Saint Martial Realm? He immediately took it out of his storage ring to inspect it.
Holding the Netherghost Violet Orchid in his hand, he felt faint ripples of energy—not very obvious, but a gentle warmth. Still, Evan knew it couldn’t be as simple as it seemed.
Evan remembered Roxy Lin had said that absorbing the Netherghost Violet Orchid’s energy to break through was painful, and not every peak Divine Martial expert could endure it. Some just couldn’t withstand the pain and failed at the last moment.
"Lin Feng, the underground isn’t the right place for your breakthrough. You should find somewhere hidden, but honestly, I advise you not to try it now. Your physique is different from others—this breakthrough could take ten days or half a month. You know what that would mean. You’ve already been in the Land of the Undead for several days; there’s not much time left." Luna, the sword spirit, spoke up.
"Then when can I break through? I really need more strength right now. Killing a Ninth-Layer Saint Martial is already so hard—if I run into a Venerable Martial expert, I’ll be dead for sure!
I still can’t cultivate Windshift or Thundershift, can’t use Star-Cleave, and I can’t even absorb the demon beast cores I’ve collected. How am I supposed to not be anxious?" Evan said helplessly.
"I get how you feel, but you can’t rush things. That Netherkin girl isn’t easy to fool—if she finds out you tricked her, she’ll definitely come after you. Don’t think the Netherghost Violet Orchid is easy to get," Luna said, clearly annoyed.
Evan knew Faye’s identity was anything but simple. He already had grudges with the Nether Monarch, and if she was connected to him, things could get ugly. Luckily, he hadn’t gotten too tangled up with her—otherwise, he wouldn’t know how to handle it, just like with Selena back then. At least the Demon Lord is on his side now, so that’s one less worry, but the headaches from before were enough to drive him crazy.
"So what do you think I should do? Just keep collecting more wooden tokens and Phantasite?" Evan asked helplessly.
"Exactly. Only by getting more wooden tokens and Phantasite can you stand out among all the Ghost Clan contestants and catch the City Lord’s attention in Grimchart City. You might even get extra rewards, like another Netherghost Violet Orchid, or a chance to enter Blackspirit City. That’s the whole point of coming to the Ghost Clan region," Luna said.
Evan didn’t say anything more, just pondered Luna’s advice. One Netherghost Violet Orchid was nowhere near enough—his women needed it, the Frostbane Sect needed it, and even the clans of the three divine beasts needed it. Without dozens or even hundreds, he’d never fulfill his mission.
He sent his spiritual sense upward and found Faye still hadn’t left—she was sitting on a big boulder, absorbing energy from Netherstones. "Is she really going to wait for me to come out of the ground? Seriously? What am I supposed to do now?" Evan muttered, exasperated.
"You can leave for a while and come back later. With your speed, she’ll never know. If she really is waiting for you, you can just show up when you’re ready. If not, you don’t have to worry about it," Luna said.
Evan immediately sped through the earth for several li, emerged from the ground, and then teleported away. He definitely didn’t want Faye to see him walking around.
Meanwhile, Faye had already entered deep meditation. She really was waiting for Evan to come out of the ground—her heart still full of questions. Who was this Pure Yang Constitution man Evan mentioned? Could it be him...?
