"Hmm?"
Hugh Hu and his group turned their heads at the sound.
When Hugh Hu saw Ryan Chen sitting there, he grinned and walked over to the table. "Yo, Ryan Chen, you came over here too? Why didn’t you say anything?"
As soon as Ryan spoke, the whole table, who’d been busy flattering Lucy Lu and Joy Zheng’s group, immediately turned to look.
In their eyes, Hugh Hu and his crew carried the distinctive arrogance of elite family scions.
The guys looked a bit haughty, the girls were dressed beautifully and had outstanding presence. But in their expressions, as they glanced at the people at the table, there was a clear hint of boredom.
"Hugh?"
Kong Tianhua and Sharon Chen, who’d been feeling nervous, froze for a moment. When they saw Hugh Hu, their hearts skipped a beat.
The two exchanged glances and saw a flash of delight in each other's eyes.
"Yeah, I came with my parents for their class reunion," Ryan Chen quickly nodded, grinning at Hugh Hu.
Only then did Hugh Hu turn his head and notice Neil Kong and Sharon Chen sitting beside him. He nodded in greeting: "Uncle Kong, Aunt Chen."
Although Hugh addressed them that way, everyone present could hear the perfunctory tone in his voice. When he saw Neil and Sharon, there wasn’t the slightest hint of genuine respect from a junior to elders—he seemed rather casual, even careless.
But instead of being offended by Hugh’s attitude, Neil and Sharon actually seemed to enjoy it.
Neil Kong even stood up, pulled out the empty seat beside him, and said with a big smile, "Ah, it’s been a while! You’ve gotten even sturdier, kid. So, how’s your dad, Major Hu, doing lately?"
Major?
Major!
Neil deliberately raised his voice when he spoke, as if afraid the people nearby wouldn’t hear him.
Sure enough, those who’d been annoyed by Hugh Hu’s group just now were all startled when they heard Neil’s words.
Anyone connected to the military district wasn’t someone ordinary—let alone, from what Neil said, Hugh Hu’s dad was actually a Major!
Judging by Hugh Hu’s age, his father was probably only in his thirties or forties. At that age, already a Major in the Jinnan Military District, with a few more promotions he could easily become a general!
With a background like that, his family couldn’t be compared to any regular business clan. Even Sawyer Summer and Summer Mu, who backed the White Dragon Mountain Resort, might be on par with Hugh Hu’s family, but if it came to a real showdown, it’s hard to say who’d come out on top.
"Brother Chen, is this your friend? Aren’t you going to introduce us?" Ivy Zhang, still upset after hearing her father Derek was fired, couldn’t shake her gloomy mood.
But there was nothing she could do about it. No matter how much she hated Evan Lin, she couldn’t change a thing.
Now, seeing Hugh Hu arrive and noticing how respectful Neil Kong and Ryan Chen were toward him, Ivy immediately started scheming.
If she could get on Hugh Hu’s good side, her father’s future would probably be much smoother.
Thinking this, Ivy even winked at Hugh Hu, putting on her sweetest, most coquettish look.
"Hugh is one of the most famous young masters in Jinnan. Around here, almost nobody dares mess with him. One time, some guy with a Ferrari thought he could do whatever he wanted and pissed Hugh off. Hugh got four Hummers, each towing a Ferrari wheel, and had them dismantle the car right in the street!"
As he talked about this, Ryan Chen was visibly excited, proud, and smug.
With his family backing and connections, plus his love of the outdoors, Hugh Hu always acted wild and unruly. If he messed up, the worst that happened was getting dragged home for a timeout, or at most getting whipped by his folks.
In Hugh’s own words: you only live once, so you’ve got to be arrogant and domineering. At worst, you take a whipping, spend half a month in bed, and once you’re back on your feet, you’re a real badass again.
Ryan Chen had been humiliated enough today, but now that Hugh Hu was here, he couldn’t help looking forward to Evan Lin showing up—he wanted to see how Evan would act tough in front of Hugh!
"That’s awesome!"
After Ryan’s quick introduction, everyone immediately got a general impression of Hugh Hu.
"That’s nothing. Hugh’s done way crazier stuff over the years. If you can think of it, he’s probably already done it." A woman, standing at 1.72 meters tall, looked down at Ivy Zhang with the disdain of a phoenix eyeing a chicken, smirking and making Ivy feel awkward and a bit insecure.
She really couldn’t compare to this woman—height, figure, bust, hips, not a single thing matched up.
"Have a seat, everyone. Let’s eat together."
Neil Kong enthusiastically pulled out a chair.
"Yeah, Hugh, you guys probably haven’t eaten yet, right? Our table’s loaded with food. It’ll be more fun if we all eat together."
Sharon Chen also chimed in with a smile.
"Then I won’t be polite."
Hugh Hu nodded. Normally, he didn’t like sitting with a bunch of adults—he found it awkward and pointless, and didn’t see any reason to give them face by eating with them.
But then Hugh’s eyes swept the room and landed on Yolanda Fang, who was grinning and every so often touching Lynn Chen’s thigh, raising her eyebrows like a female hooligan. Instantly, Hugh’s interest was piqued.
When Hugh arrived and Ryan introduced him, Yolanda didn’t even bother to look up. She just kept piling food onto Lynn’s plate, teasing and flirting, while Lynn alternated between frowning, glaring, and rolling her eyes helplessly. The whole scene made Yolanda even more amused.
As for Hugh Hu?
Who cared if his dad was a Major or even a General? What did that have to do with Yolanda Fang?
Yolanda never cared about that kind of thing and couldn’t be bothered. In her eyes, anyone she didn’t like—no matter how fancy their family or how good they looked—was just livestock.
That was Yolanda Fang’s life philosophy.
Originally, Neil Kong had pulled out a chair for Hugh, but unexpectedly, Hugh didn’t sit next to Neil. Instead, he stood up and walked straight over to Yolanda Fang, pulling out the empty seat beside her.
That seat was the one Yolanda had saved for Evan Lin.
