"You really do understand me." Sophie Mo narrowed her eyes slightly. "I want to see who is so determined to break up me and Julian King. What benefit could they possibly gain from tearing us apart?"
Good thing you’re not stuck playing the silly, sweet heroine—no crying fits, no dramatic tantrums, and no threats to take desperate measures. Rona Muir saw the maid bring out dinner and immediately called Sophie Mo over to eat. "Eat and drink together, or you’ll upset your stomach."
Sophie Mo didn’t stand on ceremony with Rona Muir. She picked up her chopsticks and started eating. "I’ve been thinking—there are a few types of people who could pull something like this. First, those targeting the King Family. The Mo Family is related to the King Family by marriage, so with the Mo Family’s support, it’s hard to take the King Family down."
Rona Muir nodded in agreement.
"Second, there’s someone going after Julian King himself. It’s possible someone really has their eye on him—he’s been a playboy for years, and the King Family is a powerful household."
Third, it’s still about Julian King, but the one making a move isn’t an outsider—it’s someone inside the King Family. If Julian is eliminated, they can grab a bigger share of the inheritance. For the older siblings, that’s a huge temptation. My mother-in-law may look shrewd, but she’s actually a muddle-headed fool. If Julian is out of the picture, it’s entirely possible for someone to swallow up the whole family fortune.
"Fourth, someone’s targeting me. They want to suppress the Mo Family, but can’t do it yet, so they’re starting with me to test the waters. But that’s unlikely, since I’m no fool—any whiff of trouble in business, and I’ve got plenty of people tipping me off."
Rona Muir added slowly, "There’s a fifth type—the ones who want it all. They want the King Family’s fortune and to test the Mo Family’s stance. If you and Julian King divorce, whatever happens to the King Family won’t concern you. If Max Mo stands up for you, they’ll go easy. If he doesn’t, they’ll be ruthless. Max Mo’s attitude depends on whether Julian is still his brother-in-law. So stirring up trouble for you two is the perfect strategy—it’s a cunning tactic that kills several birds with one stone."
"Exactly!" Sophie Mo slapped the table. "That’s what I was thinking. So, whether it’s a Dell popping up around Julian or a Zhou Lide showing up near me, we’re not making any moves! To throw them off, I even told my family to temporarily halt our partnership with the King Family. All these moves are sure to catch their attention. Whoever’s behind this will definitely make their next move soon."
"Your brother should be able to guess your plan." Rona Muir swirled her wine glass. "Max Mo’s got a sharp mind, that’s for sure."
