Empty-handed

Two days had passed since the child was kidnapped. The villagers searched day and night, and Xiao Zetian's men scoured the surrounding hundred-mile area, but all efforts were in vain.

Wu Caiwei's eyes were swollen from crying like peaches, and Zhang Mu hadn't slept for two nights, joining everyone in the search.

Doctor Wu, already quite old, fell ill from anger and anxiety after his grandson was abducted.

Even Yuan Jie prioritized finding the child, putting aside dealing with the Tang family, sending everyone who could go out to search, while he himself went around Qingmiao City to inquire.

Xiao Zetian and Li Yanhao were also investigating everywhere, suspecting human traffickers, so they paid close attention to groups known for abducting infants, but found nothing. It was as if the child had vanished into thin air, nowhere to be found.

Xiao Yun knelt at Xiao Zetian's feet, his face tense: "Master, it's my incompetence! We've searched the entire hundred-mile radius, but there's still no trace of the child."

Xiao Zetian stood with his hands behind his back, his expression stern: "This matter is probably not so simple. Few can escape the watchful eyes of the Xiao family’s covert guards. The kidnapper must have some skill."

Xiao Yun lowered his head and said, "I will order a more thorough search."

Xiao Zetian nodded, "Expand the search area. Also, focus on investigating skilled and unusual individuals in the martial world nearby, see if anyone with special abilities is suspicious around Qingmiao City."

"Yes, I’ll handle it right away!" Xiao Yun's spirits lifted, thinking he should have considered looking into skilled individuals earlier.

Xiao Yun flew off, and Li Yanhao hurried over to Xiao Zetian, asking, "Any news from your men?"

"None. How about your side?" Xiao Zetian asked.

Li Yanhao sighed, "If your men can’t find anything, what can mine find?"

Xiao Zetian was silent. Li Yanhao sighed again, "If anything happens to that child, Ali will be heartbroken to death."

"Yes, Ali cares deeply for her godson," Xiao Zetian frowned. Since the child was lost, he hadn’t seen Su Li smile once; she was constantly worried.

After standing outside for a while, Xiao Zetian returned home and saw Su Li still accompanying Wu Caiwei. Both women looked unwell, especially Wu Caiwei, who had lost a lot of weight in just two days, her cheeks sunken.

Seeing Xiao Zetian enter, Su Li quickly stood and quietly asked, "Any news?"

Xiao Zetian's eyes darkened as he said, "Not yet. The people who took Chouchou are probably not ordinary enemies; their identity is complicated."

"So serious!?" Su Li felt a chill in her heart. She glanced quietly at the heartbroken Wu Caiwei and said, "Even if Zhang Mu and his wife have enemies in business, they wouldn’t have offended someone so powerful that even the Xiao family’s covert guards can’t track."

"Yes, but I will do my best to find the child's whereabouts..." Xiao Zetian nodded, momentarily at a loss for clues.

"Mm." Su Li nodded; she trusted Xiao Zetian would do everything he could to find the child.

Xiao Zetian brushed aside some stray hair from Su Li’s ear, looking at her haggard appearance with concern. "You haven’t been eating or drinking these past two days. Don’t wear yourself out. I’ll have Lingdang prepare some food and send it to you."

Su Li sighed and nodded, "Okay, I’ll eat something myself and also urge Wu Caiwei to eat. Sigh, as a mother, the most painful thing is worrying about her child. If the child can’t be found, I fear Wu Caiwei won’t be able to hold on."
