Selling His Daughter Again

Someone like Lillian Lee... unless you blind him first...

"What? Can't do it?" Leon Zane asked.

"How about this—can I meet with Lady Lillian Lee first?"

"You may," Leon Zane replied.

"Alright, then I'll agree. I'll find a chance to enter the palace and meet Lady Lillian Lee," Grace said. "Please, Advisor, give her a heads-up."

"Do you think you can pull it off?" Leon Zane raised an eyebrow.

"I'll do my best!" Grace said.

"Heh..." Leon Zane replied coolly, "Then I'll do my best too."

"Well then, I'll leave the divination to you, Advisor!" Grace stood up and bowed in thanks.

Leon Zane glanced at Evan Xiao again. Though clearly reluctant, he still got up and sidestepped to avoid the bow.

"I'll head out now," Grace said. "Thank you, Advisor. Thank you, General."

"Let me walk you out," Evan Xiao said.

Grace nodded, bid farewell to Leon Zane, and walked out.

Once outside in the garden, Grace asked nervously, "I feel like Advisor Leon isn't too willing to help... he seems pretty reluctant."

"Don't worry," Evan Xiao said. "Willing or not, he has to help. And about his sister... just give it a try. If you really can't do it, it's okay."

"You and the Advisor... are really close, huh?"

"Yeah," Evan Xiao replied. "He's my best friend, like a brother to me."

"Oh..." Grace instantly felt relieved. "By the way, my dad asked me to give this to you as thanks for all your help."

She took out the box her father had asked her to deliver from her storage and handed it to Evan Xiao.

Evan Xiao took it, and with a flick of his wrist, popped open the lid that Grace couldn't budge no matter how hard she tried.

"What is it?" Grace tiptoed and craned her neck to peek.

Could it be that the Zhu family has some heirloom, and her dad decided to give it to Evan Xiao?

Evan Xiao showed her—inside was just an envelope.

"Just a letter?" Grace frowned.

Evan Xiao opened the letter to read.

After reading, he looked at her with an inscrutable, almost amused expression.

"What did my dad write? Why are you looking at me like that?"

Evan Xiao was much more straightforward than her father; he handed her the letter directly. "See for yourself."

Grace took it and read.

After reading it, she felt completely deflated.

Her dad actually wrote in the letter that General Xiao had done so much for the Zhu family, and for him, that he could never repay the debt.

If Evan Xiao was willing to promise that Grace would live a happy, worry-free life, he was willing to let her become Evan's concubine.

A concubine...

Is he trying to sell his daughter off again?

Evan Xiao saw her expression and laughed, "Looks like the Prime Minister really approves of me as his son-in-law. Since the martial tournament didn't work out, he's settling for second best—even being my concubine is acceptable to him."

Grace bit her lip and stayed silent.

"Don't be mad," Evan Xiao patted her back. "I believe your dad doesn't mean to hurt you. On the contrary, he's thought this through—since you're a girl without a Spirit Root, even if you marry into another family as the main wife, life would be tough. Being my concubine, at least, I'd truly protect you."

"You talk like you know him so well," Grace shot him a sideways look, clearly annoyed.

"Because he and I care about the same person," Evan Xiao said. "Of course we'd understand each other."

This guy really knows how to comfort someone...

Grace looked up at him, her eyes shimmering like water.

Evan Xiao's heart skipped a beat. He bent down and kissed her.
