First Clash

"Whew, we're safe now." The woman smiled, and at the same time, her whole demeanor changed—she no longer looked seriously injured as before.

"You...?" Evan Yang asked, puzzled.

The woman took off her veil, and sure enough, the face from the portrait appeared before Evan Yang, smiling at him. "Thanks for earlier," she said.

"You must be from the Ye Clan, right?" Evan Yang couldn't help but ask.

"Looks like you figured it out. Thanks again—I'll definitely repay you next time." The woman smiled.

"What do you need the Tigerlift Herb for?" Evan Yang asked suspiciously.

"I got poisoned by a savage beast, so I need it to force out the toxin," the woman replied awkwardly.

"Poisoned?" Evan Yang asked in surprise and doubt.

"That's right. It was a desert poison-scorpion giant beast." As she spoke, the woman revealed her right arm. A strong stench emanated from it, totally at odds with her current graceful appearance.

"Tigerlift Herb can cure that?" Evan Yang had never heard of Tigerlift Herb having such detoxifying effects.

"No, but it can control it," the woman replied.

Control? Evan Yang remembered that Tigerlift Herb could indeed slow the spread of poison. Looking at her arm, he realized if the toxin kept spreading, it would be a real problem. So he said, "If you trust me, let me help you remove the poison."

"You know how to detoxify?" The woman was overjoyed.

"I know a bit," Evan Yang said modestly.

"Thank you, then," the woman said with a smile.

"Aren't you afraid I'll hurt you? Or hand you over to the Feng Family?" Evan Yang asked, curious before starting the detox.

The woman smiled at Evan Yang. "If you were going to turn me in, you wouldn't have helped me back at the auction."

"Fair point. Just bear with it for a bit—I'll need to cut away the pus on your arm first, then clear out the poison in your body," Evan Yang said, nodding.

The woman nodded and extended her right hand. Evan Yang took out a dagger. Seeing the rusty blade, the woman wondered if it would make things worse, but what happened next stunned her. Evan Yang moved his hand quickly, and in a few deft motions, he cleaned off all the pus from her arm, even exposing the bone.

When Evan Yang put away the dagger, the woman finally felt a wave of pain in her hand—a sharp sting that made her break out in cold sweat. Still, she couldn't help but admire Evan's skill.
