A True Treasure Chest
After entering the city, Lily Evans and Lucky dropped off the Tofu Beauty—a nickname for the beautiful tofu vendor—at the gate, then drove the cart straight to Savory House.
Anyway, everyone in the village knows that Lily Evans is on good terms with Mr. Zhao, the owner of Savory House. So Lily doesn’t need to be secretive about visiting—she can go openly and confidently.
“Oh my, Mrs. Evans, these mushrooms are wonderful!” Mr. Baker’s eyes lit up the moment he saw the mushrooms in Lily’s bag.
Lily Evans smiled slightly. The mushrooms she’d carefully cultivated were plumper and juicier than any wild ones.
“Besides bringing mushrooms today, I’ve also brought the menu for the Mushroom Feast,” Lily said with a smile.
Mr. Baker had been thinking about the Mushroom Feast ever since Lily Evans first mentioned it. Today, he couldn’t wait to watch as Lily taught the chefs how to cook the dishes. By the end, Mr. Baker was sampling the mushroom creations with eyes shining in delight.
“I used to worry we’d never sell all these mushrooms, but now, with the Mushroom Feast, I bet they’ll fly off the shelves!” Mr. Baker exclaimed. Mrs. Evans, you’re truly clever—selling mushrooms with recipes is a money-making genius move.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Baker. I still have several hundred pounds of mushrooms—plenty to supply the Mushroom Feast,” Lily replied with a smile.
“That’s fantastic!” Mr. Baker rubbed his hands in excitement. “Mrs. Evans, how about I send someone from the restaurant to your house to pick up the goods? That way you won’t have to make deliveries yourself.”
Lily thought it over and felt relieved—this way, she wouldn’t have to run around delivering mushrooms herself.
She earned 500 taels from selling fifty jin of mushrooms, received 600 taels from last month's dividend from Qingmiao City's Savory House, and another 1,500 taels from the other branches. Altogether, with the mushroom money, Lily had a total of 2,000 taels!
Mr. Baker couldn’t help but sigh, “Mrs. Evans, you’re really a treasure pot! Lucky sure struck gold marrying you.”
Lucky chuckled, very proud of himself. "I’m just a fool with a fool’s luck, but I managed to marry the best wife in the world!"
Mr. Baker looked at Lily Evans, then at Lucky, and sighed again. "You two are really something. I remember when Mrs. Evans first mentioned buying land at Tenmile Hill—I should've listened! Now, with Phoenix Academy open, land prices have tripled. If only I'd bought a plot back then, I'd be rolling in silver too!"
"What happened?" Lily asked with a bright smile.
Mr. Baker slapped his thigh, "Mrs. Evans, you’re my lucky star!"
Mr. Baker remembered how Lily had once hinted he should buy a few houses back when she did, but he hadn’t taken her advice seriously, even laughing at her judgment. Now, with no houses left to buy, he was filled with regret for missing the opportunity.
