Faye Knox’s sudden move left everyone puzzled. No one understood why she was acting this way. She blocked Evan and Princess Ivy’s path, her voice choked with emotion: “Evan, is it really you? Are you actually marrying her?”
Her words only deepened the crowd’s confusion. The Netherkin princess actually knew this young man, and their relationship clearly wasn’t ordinary. Could it be that Faye Knox had feelings for him?
Though everyone was bewildered, nobody spoke up. They silently watched what would happen next. Evan, caught in a bitter dilemma, said, “Faye, I’m really glad you could come to my wedding! Thank you!”
Hearing Evan say this, Faye nearly lost her balance. Tears welled up in her beautiful eyes. “Thank you? Is that all you have to say? Do you remember what you promised me? I went back and even brought up our relationship to my royal father, but this is how you repay me.”
For a moment, Evan didn’t know how to respond, his face full of helplessness. Seeing the tears in Faye’s eyes, he felt a stabbing pain in his heart. If asked whether he truly loved Faye or Princess Ivy, it was undoubtedly Faye.
That kind of life-and-death bond was unforgettable. If not for the Nether Monarch, Evan would have followed her to the Netherkin territory without hesitation, never meeting Princess Ivy or ending up in this mess. But now, he was trapped with no way out.
“Faye, can we talk about this later? I have my own reasons for doing this. I hope you can understand—I’m really in a tough spot.” Evan forced a bitter smile.
“Understand? You think this is something I can just understand? If you don’t give me an explanation today, I won’t let this wedding happen!” Faye shouted angrily, tears finally streaming down her face.
“Evan, what’s going on here? Is there something between you and her?” Princess Ivy demanded, her face full of grievance.
“She’s just a friend—a very good friend, Ivy. Don’t get the wrong idea!” Evan quickly said. He didn’t want Princess Ivy to misunderstand now, or things would get even more out of hand.
Princess Ivy wanted to say more, but Roxy Lin quickly pulled her aside. "Ivy, Evan’s already having a hard enough time—don’t make things worse. If you stir things up now, this wedding might not even happen."
Roxy’s words were more convincing than anything else. Princess Ivy immediately shut her mouth, holding back all her questions. If this wedding really fell apart, she’d be the one to suffer most.
Princess Ivy stayed silent, but the Nether Monarch suddenly spoke up from nearby. "Faye, what’s going on here? Is this boy really the one you care about? And now he’s marrying another woman right in front of you?"
The Nether Monarch’s voice thundered across the crowd like rolling thunder, leaving everyone shaken. They could tell the Nether Monarch was truly furious.
Faye couldn’t hold back her grief any longer and threw herself into her father’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. The Nether Monarch’s face slowly turned ashen.
He glared at Evan and said, "Boy, how dare you treat my daughter like this? She’s suffering so much because of you. Even if the Shade Lord has accepted you as his son-in-law, if you can’t give me a proper explanation today, you’ll pay with your life."
The Shade Lord’s face grew ugly—this was a complete slap in the face, especially on his own turf as the strongest of the Shade Clan. He couldn’t let it slide.
"Nether Monarch, you came here for my daughter’s wedding, but now you’re trying to ruin it. Aren’t you going a bit too far? Everyone here is here for this event. You’d better think twice before you speak—don’t forget, this is Shade Clan territory." the Shade Lord retorted.
"You think you can just bully my daughter and get away with it? I don’t care about anyone’s pride. If I give you face, does that mean my own dignity can be trampled? What about the honor of the Netherkin? There are countless geniuses in the world—you don’t need to tear up relations with me over one boy, or things will end badly." The Nether Monarch shot back, refusing to yield.
"Are you saying I should be afraid of you? I’m determined to have this son-in-law. If you want to stay and drink wedding wine, you’re welcome. But if you’re here just to cause trouble, I’m not some pushover—show me what you’ve got." The Shade Lord fired back, his anger rising. This was a direct challenge to his authority.
The Shade Lord knew better than anyone just how talented Evan was. If he could protect Evan today, Evan would be forever grateful—and the Shade Clan’s rise would be just around the corner.
“Father! Just stop—let’s go! From now on, I never want to see him again!” Faye Knox cried out.
“Faye, do you really want to just let it go? I can’t swallow this humiliation—unless he gives me a proper explanation!” the Nether Monarch insisted, his eyes fixed on Evan.
Evan’s demeanor gave the Nether Monarch a strange sense of familiarity, but he couldn’t place it. Evan reminded him of someone, but that person couldn’t possibly appear in the Netherworld, especially not so young.
At that moment, Evan said, “Faye, after today I’ll give you an explanation. Please trust me!”
Everyone stared at Evan, unable to understand why the two most outstanding women in the Netherworld were both so entangled with this mysterious youth—someone no one had ever heard of before.
“Don’t call me Faye. From this day on, we’re finished. If I see you again, I’ll kill you myself!” Faye sobbed.
Seeing his beloved daughter so heartbroken, the Nether Monarch’s own heart nearly shattered. He doted on Faye deeply, and hadn’t even known she’d gone to the Ghost Clan—she’d told him she was just traveling, and he had no idea what happened there.
The Nether Monarch’s face grew darker and his killing intent intensified. He glanced at the Shade Lord. “I hope you’ll stay out of this. I’ll give you an explanation later, but I can’t let this boy live. If your own daughter suffered such humiliation, could you just stand by? We’re both fathers—you should understand.”
“Of course I understand. But you should also consider my position—if you kill him, what about my daughter? What about my pride? What will the world think of me? If you really want to attack him today, you’ll have to go through me first!” the Shade Lord roared.
In an instant, both rulers were ablaze with anger—a world-shaking battle could erupt at any moment. But just then, Evan spoke up: “Give me a little time. I’ll resolve this myself!”
