Two Punches

A dim and shadowy basement.

Huff.

Huff.

The beautiful girl clung tightly to Max Ma's arm, her anxious breaths warm and tinged with a faint perfume. Her softly rounded chest pressed against him, trembling slightly.

"Don't worry, try not to panic," Max Ma whispered.

Specters with budding intelligence can only sense human movement and activity. If they hid quietly here, maybe the ghosts would pass them by.

Even if they were discovered in the end, at least they could buy some time.

At this moment—

All they could do was stall for time, wait for rescue, and gamble on a slim chance of survival.

As for escaping—

Clearly, he was terrified to the extreme.

After all, they were just ordinary people. The very idea that Specters might truly exist was unimaginable. The fact they hadn't fainted on the spot spoke to their strong nerves.

"Don't worry, someone will come to help us."

Max Ma glanced at his roommate, and suddenly a joke from a few days ago flashed through his mind—'I bet there are real ghosts in this world. Otherwise, why so many ghost stories? I wish I could see one with my own eyes.'

Sigh.

Well, you just saw one for yourself.

The problem was, you were so scared you couldn't even move.

As thoughts spun through his mind, Max forced himself to clear away distractions, focusing all his attention on scanning their surroundings.

Ordinary Martial Artists found it difficult to sense Specters.

But if you got too close, the chilling aura was impossible to hide. Some practitioners only realized it when they felt that bone-deep cold—and by then, they were already surrounded.

Zzzzz!

A floodlight hanging in the distance flickered twice.

In the wavering light, the pretty girl thought she saw shadows stretching and shrinking—like some nameless horror lurking nearby. But in reality, it was just a pile of sand.

"Ah!"

Her mind went blank as she let out a frantic scream.

She was so terrified that she forgot Max's whispered warning—forgot everything, really. Her scream pierced through the hidden concrete pillars, echoing again and again, alarmingly loud.

Damn!

Max's face changed drastically, his heart skipping a beat.

Hiss hiss!

Two chilling screeches echoed from afar.

"Two Specters!"

Max struggled to remain calm, darting out from behind the concrete pillar. Fifty meters away, two shadowy figures drifted closer, moving in for the kill.

Even if you couldn't see them, you could feel them.

The two waves of bone-chilling cold were unmistakable, moving rapidly—straight toward them!

"Run!"

"Run, now!"

No time to blame or scold anyone—Lower Martial Artist Max Ma grabbed the pretty girl and his roommate by the hands, dragging them into a desperate sprint.

Ahhh!

The pretty girl, panicked and helpless, kept screaming as Max dragged her along, ignoring his stern warnings.

Pant, pant.
