May Parker bit her lip, but it was true—she had agreed to it herself. Originally, Arthur Evans only planned to trick Cynthia Wu into being handed over to Benjamin Zhang, but May Parker had her eyes set on Benjamin Zhang’s family background. She even forgot all about Howard Liu, who wasn’t as well-off. After Cynthia Wu escaped, May Parker volunteered to stay and serve Benjamin Zhang.

The Miller Estate was the richest in Greenfield City. Even if she had to be a concubine, it was better than marrying a simple farmer.
Arthur Evans took his silver and went downstairs to wait for May Parker to get dressed. When Howard Liu saw Arthur come down, he sneered and teased, “Well, look who it is—the Wannabe Miller In-law.”
Arthur Evans clenched his fist tightly, but forced a proud, ingratiating smile. “You’re joking, Mr. Liu.”
Howard Liu scoffed, “Mr. Liu? Who are you trying to get close to? You really think selling your sister to Benjamin Zhang will raise your status and make you one of us? Dream on! You’re nothing but a pimp selling his own sister, so quit pretending!”
After his rant, Howard Liu glanced disdainfully at the silver in Arthur Evans’s hand. “How much did you get for her? Fifty taels? Ha! Just enough for you to put down a betrothal gift for the county magistrate’s daughter. Go on, hurry up before your parents lose the marriage they begged for!”
The Liu family servants burst into laughter, crowding around Howard Liu as they left, leaving Arthur Evans standing there, his face dark with anger.
Just then, May Parker finished tidying up and came downstairs. The siblings, each harboring their own schemes, headed home together. On the way, May Parker began to worry—after all, she’d slept with Benjamin Zhang. If the village found out, she’d be drowned in a pig cage! Only the Evans siblings and Cynthia Wu knew about this, so May Parker needed to make sure Cynthia Wu kept her mouth shut.
The more May Parker thought about it, the more frightened she became. As soon as she got back to the village, she rushed straight to Cynthia Wu’s house.
May Parker barged into the Wu Family House, only to find Lily Evans there as well. Her face instantly soured. If Lily was present, Cynthia Wu must have already spilled everything that happened during the day.
May Parker bit her lip. Lily Evans had always been at odds with the Evans Family. If Lily caught hold of her secrets and exposed her, May Parker would truly have nowhere to turn.
May Parker’s eyes darted around, then she feigned innocence and questioned Cynthia Wu, "Cynthia, what’s with you? We were all having fun together—why did you suddenly run off like that? So rude! You made me and my brother spend ages explaining to everyone else."
Lily Evans glared at May Parker, clearly annoyed. "Drop the act. Don’t you know exactly why Cynthia ran off?"
May Parker, feeling guilty, said, "How would I know why she ran off? Maybe she went off to meet some wild man!"
Lily Evans slammed her hand on the table, furious. "May Parker, will you stop already! You and your brother have done enough disgusting things—now you want to drag Cynthia down with you? Keep running your mouth and I’ll tear it right off!"
May Parker was stunned by Lily Evans’s forcefulness, but she mustered her last bit of courage and snapped back, "Cynthia Wu, listen up—both of us were there today, and neither of us can walk away clean! If I hear anything that ruins my reputation, you’d better believe you won’t get away unscathed either!"
