The violent currents surged around me as my hands were gripped tightly by Jade May and Jako Chen, pulling me forward through the sea.
"You better not be lying to us, kid."
Jako Chen shot me a fiery glare. The only reason he was helping me, alongside Jade May, to chase after those Merfolk who went to seek aid from King Scarletfin, was because he had seen what I did yesterday.
Jade May's face was filled with joy, but there was still a trace of worry in her eyes. The Merfolk heading to King Scarletfin's domain wouldn’t swim quickly; they would move slowly, because no parent wanted to send their child away as food. The ones bringing the children were always their parents.
I could imagine what they must have felt, taking their children there. But without help, the Merfolk could never withstand the Azure Serpent’s assault. I saw it all clearly yesterday—the Azure Serpent didn’t retreat because it feared the Merfolk’s strength, but because it didn’t want to get hurt.
I didn’t know why, but as soon as I said I could fight, a sense of certainty settled in my heart—no panic at all. Instantly, a surge of warmth flooded my body.
They swam fast, and we sped through the water, still unable to see the Merfolk group ahead. I can still remember clearly the expressions on those Merfolk children’s faces as they left with their parents.
I couldn’t just stand by and watch. That’s the strongest feeling in my heart right now.
According to Jade May, getting to King Scarletfin’s domain would take less than a day at best, but usually it took more than a day. She said that at our current speed, we’d get there in just a few hours, because the parents carrying their children would move very slowly.
But all of this was out of desperation. For the tribe to survive, they had to negotiate with King Scarletfin. The waters they lived in now were rich and abundant, and they had lived in peace for so long—until everything changed a few months ago, when the Azure Serpent appeared.
