Beauty and Power

12/2/2025

Damien Gray noticed the look in his eyes, and the cold, menacing aura around him almost burst forth uncontrollably. He scooped Morgan Shangguan into his arms and strode toward the room, saying, "Princess Consort, you should return to your chamber and rest well!"

With a loud bang, the door was slammed shut. Prince Ethan realized his own loss of composure and felt a bit shaken. What kind of beauty hadn’t he seen before? Yet such a simple gesture made him lose control, and he found that Morgan Shangguan was appearing more and more frequently in his thoughts. His feelings for her... seemed to be far more than mere desire!

His expression shifted several times. He couldn’t allow a woman to affect him this much. To become an emperor, he must be ruthless!

Inside the room, Damien Gray’s face was dark and gloomy. The edge of the table he gripped crumbled to powder in his hand, and the chill in his eyes seemed enough to freeze anyone.

Prince Ethan! He would make sure Ethan understood the consequences of angering him. He would remember this debt!

Morgan Shangguan sighed and hugged him from behind, pressing herself to his back with a teasing smile. "Want to hit me to vent your anger?"

Damien Gray turned and embraced her, his expression softening a little. "It’s not your fault!" After all, he was the one who started it—if anyone was to blame, it was himself.

Gently stroking her hair, Damien Gray spoke with a hint of helplessness, "Even if it were your fault, I could never hit you! If I did, I’d only end up feeling worse myself. I’d rather hit myself than make you suffer."

Morgan Shangguan chuckled softly. "I was just joking, why take it so seriously?"

Damien Gray hugged her tighter and sighed, "Good thing I acted fast!" If he had hesitated back then, Morgan Shangguan might have been snatched away by someone else!

Morgan Shangguan raised her brows. "I’d say my taste is pretty good!" Whether it was Adrian Yarrow, Prince Ethan, or Liam Duanmu, none of them could give her what she truly wanted, so naturally, she wasn’t interested!

Damien Gray let out a low, magnetic laugh, his voice seductive as he whispered in her ear, "Is Princess Consort complimenting me?"

"You could think of it that way." After a pause, remembering his earlier behavior, Morgan Shangguan looked at him and asked, "Are you done pretending?"

Damien Gray smiled and said, "Didn’t Princess Consort say she wanted the fight for the throne to be fiercer? Of course I have to put some pressure on Prince Ethan!"

Morgan Shangguan smiled. "That’s true."

The two spent the whole day inside. At midnight, the same scene repeated, but this time when Morgan Shangguan woke, she directly tapped Damien Gray’s acupoint. Seeing his dark expression, she lay atop him, gently stroking his chest and raised her brows with a playful smile. "Your Highness, does this count as a small victory for me?" Her look was enchanting, quite alluring.

Damien Gray looked at her, his smile turning a bit dangerous. "Princess Consort, have you thought this through?"

Morgan Shangguan wasn’t afraid of the consequences. She pressed her forehead to his, gazed into his fiery eyes, and caressed his face with a light laugh. "Damien, close your eyes and sleep like a good boy. I’ll be right back!" With that, she kissed his lips before getting out of bed.

Morgan Shangguan left the room with a smile in her eyes, clearly in a good mood. Inside, Damien Gray sat up and looked at the tightly closed door, smiling helplessly. "Scheming against me makes you that happy?" His tone was doting and indulgent.

Knock, knock... Morgan Shangguan raised her hand and tapped on the door.

Adrian Yarrow’s eyes snapped open, a sharp glint flashing within them. He spoke, "Come in."

Morgan Shangguan pushed open the door, then turned to close it behind her. "Sorry, I only just found time to come see you." Her tone betrayed no real apology or emotion, but thoughts of Damien Gray kept her smiling. Since her back was to Adrian Yarrow, he didn’t notice.

Adrian Yarrow let out a sigh of relief—it turned out Damien Gray had kept her busy. He’d almost thought his blood had been spilled in vain.

Morgan Shangguan walked over and stood by the bed. Adrian Yarrow looked at her, his eyes full of affection as he spoke gently, "It’s alright. Sit with me for a while, will you?"

Morgan Shangguan said nothing, her expression unreadable. She turned, dragged a chair over to the bedside, and sat down quietly.

Adrian Yarrow watched her, feeling she was far too distant. If she truly still had feelings for him, wouldn’t she want to be closer? She could have just sat on the edge of his bed, but instead, she went through the trouble of moving a chair—clearly keeping her distance!

Still, considering her current status, it was normal for her to be cautious, so he didn’t dwell on it.

In truth, Morgan Shangguan didn’t care about a bit of closeness, but she knew Damien Gray would. Acting was one thing, but she didn’t want to make Damien uncomfortable because of it.

Morgan Shangguan sat quietly, not saying anything caring, nor expressing any gratitude. Adrian Yarrow kept watching her, unable to guess her thoughts, and asked softly, "Momo... are you still angry with me?"

Morgan Shangguan was thinking that Emperor Alexander must have received news of her approaching Adrian Yarrow by now. Hearing Adrian’s question, she looked up at him, lips curving slightly, and replied calmly, "No."

Adrian Yarrow looked into her eyes, seeing nothing there but a faint hint of a smile. Did she truly not blame him?

After a long silence, Adrian Yarrow said apologetically, "I’m sorry... It’s all my fault you’ve suffered so much."

Morgan Shangguan smiled and replied, "Not at all. His Highness treats me very well." She said this quite naturally—Damien Gray truly was good to her.

Adrian Yarrow frowned slightly at her expression, probing, "Have you... fallen in love with him?"

Morgan Shangguan remained silent. Admitting she loved Damien Gray would be inappropriate now, yet she didn’t want to deny it either, so she said nothing. But to Adrian Yarrow, her silence was as good as an admission.

Adrian Yarrow grew agitated. "Momo, don’t let him deceive you—he doesn’t truly love you! If he really cared, he wouldn’t have let you go back then!" His agitation wasn’t entirely an act; if Morgan Shangguan had fallen for Damien Gray, his plans would be ruined.
