The Source of Confidence

2/14/2026

"You do?"

Lily Liang turned to look at Evan Lin, listening to his words with a slight frown. Naturally, she didn’t believe this kid in front of her could produce any evidence to prove he had a hundred million—or even a billion—in assets.

That’s just pure nonsense.

Could he really bring out something convincing?

"Don’t tell me you’ve got some so-called family heirloom worth a hundred million, or even a billion."

Ben Liang’s mother looked disdainful: "Someone once brought a broken porcelain piece here, claiming it was a Han dynasty antique worth ten million. They were just treating us like fools, weren’t they?"

"Yeah, don’t think everyone’s an idiot. This isn’t a place where you can say whatever you want and expect people to believe it. If you can’t show us something solid, don’t blame us for not giving you any face."

He was freaking out.

They kept up the pressure, firing questions and sneers without pause.

Their looks toward Evan Lin were full of suspicion and disdain, and even Sisi Shao got the side-eye. Clearly, they figured Sisi was here for their money and Evan was just scheming for a payout.

"That’s impossible, Mom. Sisi and this guy are just ordinary friends—they just happened to meet on the road. There’s nothing shady going on here."

Ben quickly spoke up for Sisi Shao, and after finishing, he looked at her anxiously: "Sisi, say something."

"Is he just your ordinary friend? And what you say to him has nothing to do with us."

Ben stressed the words 'ordinary friend,' constantly winking at Sisi Shao. No matter what, the best move right now was to distance Sisi from Evan Lin.

People hang with their own kind. Looks like Ben’s girlfriend’s friend isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

The women shook their heads, rolling their eyes.

Ben Liang was already regretting it—regretting how he lost his head for a second and invited this guy to his house.

Sisi felt totally crushed inside, her stomach twisted with bitterness.

Everyone stared at her, waiting for Sisi to say something.

He... he helped me out big time before. Honestly... he’s a really good friend.

Sisi Shao hesitated for a long time, but finally spoke up like this.

Back in River City, if it hadn’t been for Evan Lin, Sisi Shao would’ve been torn apart by those mad dogs.

Just now, in that moment of hesitation, Sisi remembered what happened before. She knew distancing herself from Evan Lin was the safest move, but in the end, she chose not to cut ties with him at this moment.

Otherwise, it would look like Evan Lin was fighting alone against everyone.

"Sisi!"

Hearing Sisi’s words, Ben Liang’s expression changed: "Are you sure you’re not mistaken, or confusing him with someone else?"

He was freaking out.

He was really panicking now.

Ben Liang kept signaling frantically to Sisi Shao, but she acted as if she didn’t notice at all.

"Ben, looks like the girl you brought home really doesn’t plan on joining our family."

Ben Liang’s mother gave a cold laugh: "Well, that’s fine. If her friend can’t produce proof that he has a hundred million, then let’s just pretend they never came."

"Perfect timing—we’re heading to the Shang family later anyway. We can just drop them off at the high-speed rail station on the way. That way, the Liang family has done right by them."

As soon as she said that, Sisi Shao’s face went pale and her body trembled.

"Damn it, what’s your problem? I already told you at the door not to brag in front of me. I know exactly what you’re about. Do you not understand plain language or what?"

A surge of anger welled up inside Ben Liang as he glared at Evan Lin standing there.

If it weren’t for what he just said, things wouldn’t have turned out like this.

Ben Liang was already regretting it—regretting how he got carried away and invited this kid to his house.

If he’d known, he wouldn’t have even bothered talking to him on the train.

"Alright, that’s enough. We’ll just drop them off on the way later."

Ben Liang’s mother shook her head, and with her squad of nosy relatives, turned to leave.

None of them thought Evan Lin could actually whip out any proof that he had a hundred million.

Lily Liang shot Evan Lin another look, stretched out her hand, and said straight-up: "Come on, if you say you’ve got that kind of cash, show me now."

"Is that convenient? If not, just pretend I never asked."

Lily Liang blinked, her words carrying a hint of mockery.

She was really piling on, kicking him while he was down.

Lily Liang could see Sisi Shao’s change in expression, but she didn’t really care—whether Sisi got into the Liang family or not wasn’t her concern.

"This should be enough to prove it."

Evan Lin nodded, took out his phone, scrolled a bit, and handed it to Lily Liang, who had her hand out.

"What’s this?"

Lily Liang was stunned, holding Evan Lin’s phone: "Are you saying your phone is worth a hundred million?"

Lily Liang’s expression turned odd.

She’d just glanced at the phone screen and saw nothing at all.

"Haha, I thought you’d say you had some family heirloom worth a hundred million, but now you’re telling me your phone’s worth a hundred million?"

"Looks like we overestimated your IQ. Are you treating us like monkeys?"

People hang with their own kind. Looks like Ben’s girlfriend’s friend isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

The women shook their heads.

Ben Liang was completely furious now, clenching his fists and ready to confront Evan Lin.

Sisi felt totally crushed inside, her stomach twisted with bitterness.

She glanced at Evan Lin, seeing how chill he looked, and couldn’t help but admire his coolness right then.

Forget it. I might as well bounce.

Sisi stood there, totally lost, finally deciding to leave and just get this over with.

Even though she felt pissed and frustrated, there was a bitterness she couldn’t even describe.

But just as she finished speaking—

Suddenly, the phone in Lily Liang’s hand chimed.

Right after that, Lily Liang’s eyes widened, and she let out a startled cry that everyone could hear.
