Awake

2/14/2026

Just as Vincent Su, Caleb Wang, and Evan Zhou were staring at the medicine box, unsure what to do, a maid came to report: Serena Feng had woken up and driven everyone out, refusing any attendance.

Awake?

The three only heard those two words—everything else faded into the background. They grabbed the medicine box and rushed toward Serena Feng’s room, not caring whether it was proper.

After all, Serena Feng’s reputation had already been ruined by Adrian Eastlyn’s actions—one more scandal hardly mattered.

Serena Feng could forget about marrying anyone in this lifetime. With her situation, no man would dare defy social norms to take her as his wife, so Vincent Su and Caleb Wang had no scruples.

The three arrived at Serena Feng’s courtyard and found all the maids standing outside, the doors and windows tightly shut. Vincent Su and Caleb Wang exchanged glances, silently agreeing that no matter what, they had to go in and check on her.

The maids at Feng Manor were originally sent from Su Manor and dared not stop Vincent Su. But just as they were about to push open the door, Evan Zhou suddenly blocked the entrance, spreading his arms, firmly refusing to let Vincent Su and Caleb Wang enter.

“Master Su, Master Wang, please show some respect. This is my sister’s boudoir. It’s better if you don’t go in.”

Evan Zhou didn’t know what Serena Feng was doing inside, but he was very clear that she had a big secret—and it was a secret she didn’t want anyone to know.

Evan Zhou knew that Serena Feng seemed carefree, but in the capital, every step she took was like walking on thin ice. Right now, she didn’t have the power to protect her secret, so it absolutely couldn’t be revealed.

Speculation was one thing; actually knowing Serena Feng’s secret was another entirely.

“Evan Zhou, aren’t you worried about Serena Feng?” Vincent Su didn’t force his way in.

Even from Serena Feng’s medicine box, it was clear she was no ordinary person. Sometimes, knowing too much isn’t a good thing.

But people are always curious.

“I’m worried, but I trust my sister. She wouldn’t let anything happen to herself.” Serena Feng valued her life—no one could deny that.

“She’s still sick—she might need our help. Even if we don’t go in, maybe a maid could check on her.” Caleb Wang obviously wasn’t as steady; he was very curious about Serena Feng’s secret.

Evan Zhou shook his head firmly: “Master Wang, my sister doesn’t like having her words questioned. Since she drove everyone out, it means she doesn’t need help. We should just wait.”

Evan Zhou stood at the door, not allowing anyone to enter.

Serena Feng lay half-reclined on her bed, her cheeks unnaturally flushed. Hearing the commotion outside, she let out a deep sigh of relief, then jabbed a syringe into her vein to start an IV drip for herself.

Such a simple task left Serena Feng drenched in sweat, gasping for breath. Her wrist bore five or six needle marks.

Half asleep, Serena Feng noticed Vincent Su and Caleb Wang were still there. She frowned, "Why are you two still here? Go home, or you’ll catch my illness."

Colds are contagious.

Vincent Su and Caleb Wang chuckled and spoke in unison: ...

“If we leave now, who’ll watch over you?”

Serena Feng rolled her eyes, but her heart warmed. She was used to facing everything alone, but their concern was genuine.

“Don’t worry, I’m tough. I won’t die that easily.” Serena Feng reassured them, her tone light but firm.

Vincent Su smiled, "With you, I believe it." Caleb Wang nodded in agreement.

Serena Feng closed her eyes, drifting between sleep and waking. The voices around her faded into a gentle hum.

She didn’t know how much time had passed when she felt a hand gently brush her forehead.

“Her fever’s gone down,” Dr. Sun said softly, relief in his voice.

Vincent Su and Caleb Wang both let out a breath. Evan Zhou, who had just arrived, smiled and said, “Looks like our efforts weren’t wasted.”

Serena Feng’s lips curled into a faint smile. She wanted to say something, but exhaustion pulled her back into sleep.

The next time she woke, sunlight streamed through the window. Serena Feng blinked, feeling the heaviness in her limbs slowly fade.

She tried to sit up, but her body was weak. Still, she managed to prop herself against the headboard, breathing steadily.

Evan Zhou noticed she was awake and quickly called for Dr. Sun.

Dr. Sun hurried in, checking Serena Feng’s pulse and examining her carefully.

“You’re out of danger. Just keep resting and take your medicine as prescribed,” Dr. Sun advised.

Serena Feng nodded, her mind already turning to the events she’d missed while unconscious.

She asked Evan Zhou for an update. Evan quickly filled her in on everything that had happened, including the rumors swirling in the capital.

Serena Feng listened in silence, her eyes darkening as she processed the news.

She knew that her humiliation at the city gate would not be forgotten so easily.

But she had survived—again. That was enough for now.

She would not let anyone else decide her fate. From now on, she would fight for herself.

Serena Feng closed her eyes, silently vowing never to forgive Adrian Eastlyn.

She would carve out her own path, no matter what the imperial court threw at her.

Outside, the spring wind stirred the peach blossoms. The world was changing—and so was she.
