When Elisa Field heard Miles Gu say that, she let out a long sigh of relief and hugged him even tighter. "Miles, you have to remember what you once said. You can't leave me, you can't abandon me. You promised to take care of me for a lifetime!"
In the past, when Miles Gu heard Elisa say things like this, he didn't feel anything special.
He just thought she was weak and helpless, someone who needed protection.
But now, he felt that Elisa's place in his heart was growing weaker and weaker.
He didn't want to look down on Elisa.
But Elisa's importance kept fading nonetheless.
"Elisa," Miles said, "you've had enough fun lately. I'll sign you up for some classes—go learn something new and recharge yourself."
Elisa's body stiffened. "Recharge? Recharge what?"
"Learn something you like. If you enjoy business, study marketing. If you prefer management, go for an MBA. If none of that appeals to you, then try tea art, horseback riding, ice skating..."
"I don't like any of those," Elisa pouted. "I just want to shop, drink tea, and get beauty treatments every day. Miles, men work hard outside, women should stay beautiful so when their husbands come home tired, they'll be happy to see a gorgeous wife. So, since I have you, why should I bother learning any of that?"
Miles Gu was at a loss for words.
He felt that the kind of woman he liked shouldn't be like this.
None of the women with real charm just know how to eat, drink, and have fun.
Even the daughters of wealthy, noble families at least know something about running a business.
Elisa, who knows nothing and just eats everything in sight—how could she ever fit in with the local socialites?
When the other socialites are busy helping their husbands network, is she just going to sit there and be a trophy wife?
Take Mrs. Yin, the wife of the CEO of Yin Enterprises, Cecilia Gu—she's also the chairwoman of her own company. When she steps out, she's a business card all on her own, representing both Yin Enterprises and the Yin family, not just some lightweight title like 'CEO's wife.'
That's the kind of woman who truly belongs in high society.
But if Elisa doesn't like it, then she doesn't like it.
He could afford to support her anyway.
"Do whatever you want." Miles Gu didn't push her anymore.
"Miles, you're always the best to me. I just got news yesterday—a new batch of designs is coming out soon..." Elisa was overjoyed when Miles stopped insisting she learn things she had no interest in, and immediately started asking him for money again.
Miles picked up his phone and transferred her some money. "Didn't I just give you fifty million the day before yesterday?"
"Fifty million isn't much. I bought a few outfits, booked some skincare treatments, topped up my SPA package, and now there's barely anything left." Elisa whined. "Miles, I dress up for you! That way, when you take me out, you'll look good too."
"Mm." Miles didn't say anything more.
After all, Elisa was the fiancée he had chosen himself.
He could only keep spoiling her.
Two days later, Miles brought Elisa and a car full of luggage to Sunset Manor.
As soon as they arrived at the foot of the mountain, Elisa looked utterly disgusted. "Ugh, Miles, why do we have to live in such a deserted place? It's so far from the city, it's not even convenient for shopping. Miles, can we go back? Let's not stay here—hotels are so much more convenient."
The staff in charge of handling the luggage gave Elisa a deep look but said nothing.
This woman really is fearless in her ignorance.
Sunset Manor may be remote, but in terms of convenience, it's second to none.
Other people have to go to stores to shop.
But for the owner of Sunset Manor, brands bring their latest collections right to the door, hoping for a chance to be chosen.
That's the real gap in life.
Still, Elisa probably doesn't understand what 'priority' means.
Miles Gu looked at Elisa helplessly and said, "Didn't we already agree? If you don't want to stay here, go back to the hotel. I'll stay here on my own."
"No way!" Elisa pouted, unwilling to give in. "Fine, for you, I'll put up with it. Miles, I'm never leaving your side."
Miles felt that suffocating feeling again.
Why did this relationship make him so uncomfortable?
And it was only getting worse.
From a distance, Cherry Miller saw Miles Gu and Elisa's car driving up the mountain.
As the head steward of Sunset Manor, Cherry naturally had to greet them in person.
"Welcome to Sunset Manor," Cherry said. At this moment, she was no longer as close or enthusiastic with Miles as before; now, she was all business and professionalism. "Should I address you as Mr. Field?"
Miles hesitated, then said, "Just call me Miles Gu. My mom gave me that name, so here at home, it's only right to use it."
Cherry chuckled inwardly, but went along with it. "Alright, Mr. Gu."
Young Master Gu, Mr. Gu.
Just two words, but the difference in meaning was worlds apart.
Cherry Miller was just that clear about who she liked and disliked.
Elisa glanced at Cherry, her nose in the air. "I want the best room. I don't like staying anywhere too remote. And the food I want is expensive..."
Cherry Miller put on her professional smile again. "Miss Elisa, don't worry. Whatever you want to eat, just ask. If it can be bought, we'll get it for you. Your fiancé will cover all your expenses."
Miles Gu gave Cherry a deep look but said nothing.
Elisa didn't pick up on Cherry's sarcasm and said haughtily, "Good, as long as you know."
"This way, please." Cherry led the way. "To accommodate your habits and daily routines, we've reserved west-facing rooms for you. In the evening, you'll be able to see the beautiful sunset over the mountains."
"Hmph, it's alright," Elisa said, clearly proud but still nitpicking. "It's just so-so."

Miles Gu paused and asked, "Where do you all live then?"
"We live in the east wing, so we won't disturb you and Miss Elisa's privacy," Cherry said tactfully.
Miles understood what Cherry meant.
Even though the Yin family invited him to stay at Sunset Manor, they weren't exactly pushing their daughter onto him. Instead, they were keeping their distance—one in the east wing, one in the west.
This way, if he didn't want to see them, he could easily avoid them.
Seeing the Yin family go out of their way to avoid suspicion, Miles felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
He was the one who wanted to break off the engagement, but now that the Yin family really was cutting ties, he felt a little hesitant and unwilling.
It seemed like the Yin family's heiress was actually a better match for him.
Normally, he should have chosen the Yin family's heiress.
So, where did things go wrong?
When Elisa saw the luxurious room, she finally nodded in satisfaction. "Now that's more like it. These suitcases are full of my favorite clothes—don't mess them up, they're really expensive."
The staff in the villa quickly organized Elisa's things so perfectly that she couldn't find a single thing to complain about.
"If there aren't any other issues, I'll take my leave now. When it's time for meals, someone will notify you, or you can just go to the dining hall. We all eat together. There's also a map of the villa's different areas on your room's desk. If you can't find it, feel free to ask any of the staff." Cherry stepped back politely. "Please rest for now."
"Wait a moment," Miles called out to Cherry.
"Is there anything I can help you with, Mr. Gu?" Cherry asked politely.
"I..." Miles felt a wave of confusion. He kept thinking Cherry shouldn't be treating him this way.
Somehow, it felt like his relationship with Cherry was more like family, not this distant politeness.
His thoughts were getting more and more tangled.
It felt like the whole world was in chaos.
Cherry patiently waited for Miles to continue, but he finally said, "It's nothing. Thank you."
"Then I'll take my leave." Cherry nodded and left without a second thought.
Seeing Miles staring after Cherry, Elisa immediately got jealous. She grabbed Miles's arm and said, "Are you interested in that woman?"
Miles couldn't help but laugh. "What are you talking about?"
"Isn't she pretty?" Elisa, ever superficial, judged women only by their looks.
She saw Cherry's elegance and poise, her delicate beauty, and immediately felt threatened.
She worked so hard on her skincare and appearance, all to keep Miles from being stolen by another woman!
But in this world, there was never a shortage of young, beautiful girls.
So Elisa was always on edge.
Miles looked at Elisa, completely bewildered. "Would I really fall for a woman just because she's pretty?"
"Wouldn't you?" Elisa retorted.
Miles was stumped by her question.
He finally understood what it meant to have nothing in common, to have completely different values, and to be totally out of sync.
So what had he liked about Elisa in the first place?
"You're overthinking it," Miles finally said. "She's Ethan Yin's fiancée."
Elisa finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ethan Yin?
Oh, that other handsome boy you can't take your eyes off!
Cherry Miller really is lucky!
She actually managed to win over the Yin Family heir!
Guess it’s all about the looks, huh?
Elisa speculated to herself.
At lunch, Miles brought Elisa to the dining hall.
By then, all the younger generation had already arrived.
Yina Yin and Yuzhen Yin were in the lounge area off the dining room, wearing their VR gear and playing a competitive game.
On the big screen on the wall, their game was being projected for everyone to watch.
Today, the two were playing Go.
Yina played white, Yuzhen played black.
The others gathered around to watch them play.
Miles paused, studying their game closely.
On the board, black was clearly losing ground while white attacked and defended perfectly, fortifying her territory and gradually eating away at black’s space, leaving black with nowhere to retreat.
