"Tao, this woman may be a bit ugly, but her figure is really something." Garrett chuckled, his tone suggestive.
Owen Tao waved his hand, "Stop thinking about all that nonsense. Once this is over, I'll definitely talk to my uncle for you and get you into Goldpeak. By the way, how's that thing you were investigating?"
Garrett quickly replied, "I've already looked into it. The Jing Clan is just a small family, and they don't really have any cultivators. But the patriarch, Eugene Jing, holds a foreign affairs post in the Everresolve Kingdom, so the Jing Clan has some status. Eugene Jing is also Sherry Jing's father. Sherry Jing is disliked for her looks and poor temperament, so Eugene Jing doesn't care much for her. He favors her two older sisters, Sherry Snow and Sherry Frost."
"She has two older sisters?" Owen Tao asked in surprise.
Garrett answered, "Yes, and her relationship with them is very bad. I heard they barely even speak to each other."
"Hmm." Owen Tao nodded, then after a moment asked, "Does she have any acquaintances in Starstream School?"
"She does have two..."
Hearing that Sherry Jing had acquaintances in Starstream School, Owen Tao interrupted Garrett impatiently, "Who are the two?"
Garrett understood Owen Tao's meaning and grinned, "Don't worry, Tao, they're nobodies. One's named Joe Di, the other's Garrett Lance. Both of them have terrible spiritual roots and shouldn't have gotten into the sect at all."
"Then how did that happen?"
"It was because Elder Yu won a bet against Elder Hui that day and was in a great mood. He happened to run into those two during the test, and since they knew Jing Mo Shuang, Elder Yu casually said a word and let those two lucky fools join the Starstream School's outer sect."
Hearing Garrett's explanation, Owen Tao breathed a sigh of relief, then said, "Once we're done here, find a chance to take care of that Joe Di and Garrett Lance."
"Don't worry, Tao. Those two can't even cultivate. Even if you didn't say anything, I'd still find a chance to get rid of them." Garrett replied with a sinister smile.
Joe Di was furious inside. These two bastards—if he hadn't come to listen in, he wouldn't even know someone was targeting him for no reason.
"Huh!" Owen Tao suddenly looked down and exclaimed in surprise.
"What is it?" Garrett quickly asked when he heard Owen Tao's exclamation.
Owen Tao snorted coldly, "Looks like that woman is getting suspicious. She actually went to the Mission Hall and took the task to find the Tian Tong Flower—she must be planning to escape. Garrett, go take the Nufeng Ridge task immediately. If she can't wait even a day, let's grant her wish."
"Alright." Garrett quickly pushed the door open and left. Joe Di, watching from outside, could see clearly that he was heading toward the Mission Hall.
After Garrett left, Owen Tao also left quickly. Joe Di saw that he was heading toward the exit of the sect.
This time, Joe Di didn't follow. He'd only wanted to find out what was going on and whether Sherry Jing was in danger.
Now that Owen Tao wanted to kill him, Joe Di had no intention of backing down. If someone wanted his life, he'd trade life for life.
If you wanted to leave the sect for a long time, you needed an excuse. Joe Di also planned to take on a mission.
Joe Di rushed to Garrett Lance's door and knocked urgently. "Garrett Lance, go wait for me outside the sect right now."
Without waiting for a reply, Joe Di dashed off toward the Mission Hall.
As soon as Joe Di entered the Mission Hall, he saw Garrett walking out, apparently having just taken the Nufeng Ridge mission.
"I'll take mission number 109." Di Jiu didn't even check what the mission was, only glanced at the deadline.
Mission 109 had a deadline of six months. After dealing with Garrett and Owen Tao, it would be best for him to stay out for a while before coming back. From what Owen Tao said about his uncle helping Garrett get into Goldpeak, it sounded like they had considerable status. He'd better be careful.
"You want to take mission 109?" The female cultivator in the mission hall looked at Di Jiu in surprise, thinking she must have misheard.
Di Jiu replied with a sharp tone, "Is there a problem?"
She'd originally wanted to warn Di Jiu that the mission was dangerous, but hearing his tone, the female cultivator didn't hesitate. "Give me your identity token, I'll register you."
Joe Di handed over his identity token. The female cultivator glanced at it and shook her head in disbelief. Just a newly admitted outer disciple, and he dared to take on the Thousandfloat Fortress mission—was he looking to get himself killed?
Di Jiu just wanted to get things done as quickly as possible. As soon as he got the mission token, he turned and left without hesitation, worried that if he took too long, he wouldn't be able to catch up to Ouyang Tao.
...
"Brother Jiu, I'm here." As soon as Di Jiu reached the sect's exit, he saw Geng Jihua waiting for him.
"I took on a mission. Let's go out together, earn some sect points, and exchange them for spirit stones to cultivate when we get back." Joe Di clapped Garrett Lance on the shoulder.
Geng Jihua didn't quite understand, so he hurried to catch up to Di Jiu, whispering, "Brother Jiu, I just saw Qiao Sa. He was rushing off in that direction."
After speaking, Geng Jihua pointed toward a direction outside the plaza.
"I know. We're going to cause trouble for Qiao Sa." Di Jiu quickened his pace.
Qiao Sa and Ouyang Tao clearly hadn't expected anyone to follow them. As soon as Di Jiu and Geng Jihua left the plaza, they saw Ouyang Tao and Qiao Sa meeting up.
"Brother Jiu, that Ouyang Tao is really strong." Geng Jihua said worriedly as he saw Di Jiu leading him to follow Ouyang Tao and Qiao Sa.
"They're going after Sister Mo Shuang—even if they're strong, we have to catch up." Di Jiu snorted.
Geng Jihua nodded immediately, "Right, we absolutely can't let them go after Sister Mo Shuang."
Geng Jihua wasn't very brave, but he did have some backbone.
Because Di Jiu deliberately exposed himself, he and Geng Jihua were quickly discovered by Ouyang Tao not far from the sect.
"Brother Tao, why aren't we using a flying artifact to chase them?" After walking for a while without seeing Ouyang Tao use his flying ship, Qiao Sa couldn't help but ask.

Flying artifacts—many disciples who have perfected Qi Refinement don't have them, and even some who have just entered the Foundation Establishment stage may not own one. Ouyang Tao had a flying ship only because his uncle, Ouyang Mufei, was the master of Hejin Peak.
Ouyang Tao sneered, "There are two ants courting death, daring to follow me. I'll take them somewhere remote and bury them."
"One of them is Geng Jihua." Qiao Sa had also noticed the two trailing behind.
Ouyang Tao nodded, "Looks like the other one's Di Jiu. Why are those two following us?"
"Could they have realized we're following Jing Mo Shuang?" Qiao Sa asked doubtfully.
"Doesn't matter. We'll know soon enough." Ouyang Tao quickened his pace.
"They've spotted us." Seeing Ouyang Tao change direction and speed up, Di Jiu knew his plan had worked—at least Ouyang Tao wouldn't suddenly fly away with an artifact.
After just over half an hour, Ouyang Tao lost patience and blocked Di Jiu and Geng Jihua behind a small hill.
"Brother Jiu, they knew we were following them all along." Geng Jihua finally realized it after they were stopped.
"Qiao Sa, break the legs of these two little grasshoppers and bring them over." Ouyang Tao had no intention of doing it himself.
Qiao Sa understood Ouyang Tao's meaning. He didn't regard Di Jiu and Geng Jihua as a threat at all. With a wave of his hand, he sent out two wind blades.
In his eyes, these two newly admitted, untrained ants would surely have their legs cut off by his wind blades.
"Puff, puff!" Four wind blades collided in the air, bursts of true essence exploding with a series of sharp sounds.
"What's going on?" Qiao Sa was stunned. Before he could react, Di Jiu raised his hand and sent out another wind blade.
"Puff!" Blood sprayed as Di Jiu cut Qiao Sa in half at the waist. Then a fireball landed on Qiao Sa, instantly engulfing him and releasing a strange smell. Qiao Sa was only at the third level of Qi Refinement—back when Di Jiu was at that stage, he could have killed Qiao Sa. Now, even though his cultivation had dropped from the seventh level of Qi Refinement, his strength was greater than ever.
"You actually cultivated?" Ouyang Tao exclaimed in shock, immediately drawing a longsword. With a flick of his wrist, the sword split into a dozen sword rays that shot toward Di Jiu.
Di Jiu had once possessed a top-grade artifact cleaver, so at a glance he knew Ouyang Tao's longsword was a supreme-grade artifact.
"Brother Jiu..." Geng Jihua stared at Di Jiu in shock.
Di Jiu drew his low-grade artifact flying sword, wielding it like a saber. With one slash—Di Clan's Third Blade, Di Clan Whirlwind Blade.
The flying sword whipped up vortexes of sword energy, forming ring after ring that collided with Ouyang Tao's sword rays.
"Crack!" The sound of sword rays shattering was clear. Di Jiu breathed a sigh of relief. Ouyang Tao seemed to be in the late stage of Qi Refinement, and Di Jiu had worried that a sect disciple would be stronger than a rogue cultivator like him. But after this clash, Di Jiu knew the gap wasn't so wide.
The vortex sword energy wrapped up all of Ouyang Tao's sword rays and crushed them completely.
The fact that Di Jiu had cultivated was shocking enough for Ouyang Tao, but now Di Jiu had shattered his sword rays with a single slash. By this point, Ouyang Tao realized he was no match for Di Jiu and tried to retreat.
With his wealth of combat experience, Di Jiu wouldn't let Ouyang Tao escape. He swept his flying sword again, slicing off both of Ouyang Tao's legs.
Ouyang Tao collapsed to the ground, panic-stricken as he stared at Di Jiu, unable to beg for mercy for a moment.
