What Can I Even Say About You

12/2/2025

If you ever regret your decision, don't forget that we're always behind you.

Lola heard Martin Wu's words and paused for a moment, turning her head slightly.

Unfortunately, her face was covered by the bridal veil, so no one could see her expression or know what she was thinking.

Martin Wu and Su Li watched Lola leave. Martin felt a heaviness in her chest, a woman's intuition telling her something was wrong. Today was supposed to be a day of celebration—Lola was getting married.

But in Martin Wu's eyes, it felt as if Lola was walking alone toward a road of no return, straight into the depths of hell.

Martin Wu felt suffocated and restless. She said to Su Li, "Master Su, I... I don't feel well. I don't want to attend Lola's wedding anymore. I'll go home first."

Su Li glanced at Martin Wu and said, "I'll go back with you."

Martin Wu was slightly surprised. "Master Su, you're not attending either?"

Su Li shook her head, a bitter smile appearing on her face.

Although she didn't know what Mrs. Penny had said to Lola alone, Su Li understood much more than Martin Wu. Mrs. Penny's miscarriage was most likely caused by Lola—probably by accident.

Even if Lola acted by accident, she was still the reason Mrs. Penny lost her child.

To protect Lola, Mrs. Penny insisted it was her own carelessness that caused her to fall.

Even though Mrs. Penny lost her child, she didn't blame Lola. Instead, she lied to shield her, showing just how much she truly cares for Lola as her apprentice.

Mrs. Penny is a fiercely protective teacher. Since she's so adamant that Lola shouldn't get married right now, Su Li trusts her judgment.

That's why this is destined to be the start of a tragedy—Su Li doesn't want to witness its beginning.

Leaving is for the best—out of sight, out of mind.

"Let's go, Martin Wu. We've got plenty of work to do," Su Li sighed, and together they walked out of Zhao Manor.

Meanwhile, Neil Zhao was already waiting for his bride in the ceremonial hall. When Lola arrived, he looked genuinely happy.

Neil Zhao glanced to the side and asked Lola, "Lola, I heard your teacher and General Sean Hayes are here, and even Master Su came in person. Where are they?"

Lola, her face still covered by the veil, shook her head. "My teacher and General Sean Hayes still don't approve of our marriage, so I had a falling out with them. Master Su and Scholar Martin Wu did come, but I just ran into them in the courtyard—they didn't follow me inside, so I suppose they've left."

Neil Zhao's brow furrowed instantly. "Lola, how could you fall out with your teacher? Her husband is the Grand General! And Master Su—how could you not invite her to officiate our wedding? Having Master Su preside is a huge honor! Weren't you her personal bodyguard since childhood? How could you not even get her to attend? What am I supposed to say to you?"

Lola pressed her lips together, just about to reply, when Neil Zhao suddenly dashed out of the ceremonial hall, calling, "I'll go bring Master Su and General Sean Hayes back right now!"

Lola's words got stuck in her throat.

She had no idea Neil Zhao cared so much about whether Master Su could attend the wedding.

And then there was Sean Hayes—the man she'd liked for so many years. Neil Zhao knew that, too. Didn't he feel jealous or uncomfortable about it?

As Lola thought about this, she reached up to lift her bridal veil. The nearby matron immediately cried out to stop her, "The bride can't lift her veil until she's in the bridal chamber! That's extremely unlucky!"
