Encounter at the Kerr Family Villa

1/4/2026

She wasn't about to fall for that.

If she really agreed to this, and the Kerr Family ended up picking someone with bad character for Mason Kerr, wouldn't the blame fall on her?

She wasn't stupid.

She hadn't expected that choosing at Sunset Manor wasn't enough—the Kerr Family was holding another banquet to pick again.

The Kerr Family sure was desperate for Mason Kerr to have heirs!

When Yina Yin was led inside, she looked up and saw Grandma Kerr, dressed in a silk qipao embroidered with Shu patterns, looking quite energetic.

"Grandma Kerr." Yina greeted her warmly.

"Oh, you're finally here!" Grandma Kerr quickly grabbed Yina's hand, her face full of enthusiasm. "What have you been busy with these days? I hardly get to see you anymore."

"Just company stuff. With Mom, Dad, and my brother all out, everything at Yin Group falls to me." Yina helped Grandma Kerr inside, playing along. "I just parted ways with Mason Kerr a few days ago, and now you're holding another banquet to pick a granddaughter-in-law? Honestly, Grandma, you're so lively, you could easily live another thirty or forty years—why rush?"

"You sweet talker! How old do you think I am?" Grandma Kerr laughed. "When I was Mason's age, I'd already had your Uncle Sean."

Yina was speechless—times really have changed, haven't they?

"How's Uncle Sean been lately?" Yina changed the subject.

"That rebellious son—let's not talk about him." Grandma Kerr waved her hand. "At least he gave our family an heir. He can go wherever he wants now!"

Yina really didn't know how to comment on Sean Kerr. After all, he's an elder.

She'd heard plenty about the previous generation's drama from her parents.

Uncle Sean probably still can't forget her godmother!

Sigh, Grandma Kerr must regret it all now, huh?

If only she'd known, would she have made the same choices back then?

If the Kerr Family hadn't fought so hard against it back then, maybe her godmother and Uncle Sean would have ended up together.

Well, maybe not.

If her godmother and Uncle Sean had ended up together, what about her godfather? Zeke and the others wouldn't even exist!

Forget it—better not to comment on the older generation's drama.

"Yina?" Sam Shang spotted Yina Yin from afar and hurried over. "You're here!"

Yina winked at Sam Shang. Like she could skip this event!

"All right, you young people chat. These old bones of mine are no good anymore." Grandma Kerr really hoped her grandson would get along with the next Yin heir, just like Sean Kerr and Charles Yin did back in the day—best friends with no secrets.

Once Grandma Kerr left, Yina finally asked, "Weren't you supposed to find someone just to fool your grandma?"

"Don't even mention it. My grandma's way too sharp," Sam Shang said, dejected. "There's no tricking her. So here we are, another party—obviously just for matchmaking."

Yina gave Sam Shang a sympathetic look. "What a mess! Grandma Kerr's basically forcing you to be a breeder!"

Sam Shang gave a bitter smile. "I can't even say no. If I refuse, I bet Grandma would just send someone straight to my room and force me to have kids."

Yina shivered. That's terrifying!

Grandma Kerr was obsessed with great-grandchildren!

Thank goodness her parents were normal—they never pressured her or her brother to have kids!

So lucky, seriously.

Yina couldn't help but look at Sam Shang with pity. "Maybe you should just agree and have a kid with someone..."

"If I start, they'll never stop demanding more kids," Sam Shang said with a resentful look. "Yina, you have to help me out here."

"Ugh, that's tough!" Yina rubbed her hands. "Honestly, Kerr Family stuff isn't really my business."

"Help me out when you can, okay? You can't just leave me hanging!" Sam Shang pleaded.

Yina could only grit her teeth and say, "Fine, I'll help when I can. If I really can't, just try to understand!"

While they were talking, the banquet outside began.

Several singers were invited to perform at the banquet, warming up the atmosphere.

Yina paused for a moment when she heard the singing.

Wait, wasn't that Mason Ming's voice?

What was he doing here?

Yina immediately turned and headed toward the banquet hall.

Sure enough, she spotted Mason Ming on stage, softly singing a love song. Quite a few people stopped to listen to his performance.

At that moment, a heavily made-up, plus-sized heiress—Miss King—spoke loudly, "Wow, when did the entertainment industry get such a cute new guy?"

"Miss King, don't tell me you've got your eye on him?" someone teased.

"So what if I do?" Miss King replied proudly. "If I like him, that's an honor for him!"

Everyone around burst out laughing, clearly agreeing with Miss King.

To these people, celebrities were just toys.

Anyone here could easily scoop up those so-called famous stars, let alone a newcomer like Mason Ming.

Getting noticed by them was considered a blessing.

That's genuinely how they saw it.

Miss King kept staring at Mason Ming, growing fonder by the minute. Before he even finished singing, she jumped on stage, grabbed his wrist, and said, "What's your name, handsome? Interested in coming with me?"

The crowd erupted in laughter.

Mason Ming's face turned bright red—he was furious.

Why was he always so unlucky?

If it wasn't Quentin Chin, it was some heiress like this.

Why couldn't the person interested in him be Yina Yin?

That thought nearly startled Mason Ming, and his face went pale.

Seeing Mason Ming so nervous around her, Miss King got even more interested. "So tense? Looks like you're still pretty green!"

A few people around started egging him on: "Just say yes to Miss King! If you stick with her, you'll get whatever resources you want! She may not be in showbiz, but she's loaded—she could drop tens of millions on a film for you, you'd have it all!"

"Exactly! Miss King rarely takes a liking to someone. You should go for it!"

"Hahahahahaha!"

Mason Ming's face turned even redder.

From a distance, Yina Yin's face suddenly darkened.

If anyone wanted to bully someone, they'd have to get her approval first!

Yina strode over, calling out as she walked, "Miss King, you're in a good mood today—got your eye on my little puppy?"

Then Yina looked at Mason Ming on stage. "What are you waiting for? Get over here!"

Mason Ming never expected to run into Yina here. He blushed, lowered his head, and obediently walked over to her.

At first, Miss King was annoyed that someone dared to compete with her.

But when she saw Yina Yin clearly, her face went pale and her voice trembled. "M-Miss Yin? He's yours? I was wrong, I didn't recognize greatness when I saw it. I'm sorry, I know I was wrong!"

Ignoring her pride, Miss King slapped herself hard, too embarrassed to stay. She turned and hurried away.

Everyone else quickly apologized too. "Sorry, Miss Yin, we didn't know he was with you."

One by one, they all scattered—no one dared stick around.

With Miss Yin protecting someone, who would dare mess with them?

Quite a few people thought, "That little celebrity sure is lucky, catching Miss Yin's eye!"

Otherwise... well...

Once everyone left, Mason Ming finally spoke up. "You saved me again today."

Yina looked at him helplessly. "What kind of luck do you have? Wherever you go, you attract admirers—every kind imaginable!"

"I don't know either. I just want to sing," Mason Ming said, sounding even more aggrieved.

He really didn't get it!

Why was it so hard to just sing?

Yina Yin looked at Mason Ming's reddened eyes. With his makeup tonight, he really was striking—no wonder he caught Miss King's attention.

Was this what they called beauty being a curse?

If someone's talent couldn't match their looks, that beauty could easily become a disaster.

"Once tonight's show is over, head home early," Yina Yin sighed. "Try to avoid events like this whenever you can."

"But I need to make money. I have to support my mom," Mason Ming said gloomily. "If I keep turning down gigs, the company will just freeze me out."

Yina Yin rubbed her temples, a little exasperated. "Don't worry. Now that I've spoken up, they won't be so reckless next time."

"Thank you so much." Mason Ming grew even more emotional. "I don't even know how to repay you."

Maybe I should offer myself to her?

Sigh, that's impossible.

"Just go find a quiet spot and wait for the banquet to end. Go home with me afterward," Yina Yin instructed, worried he'd run into more trouble. "Don't wander off, got it?"

"Okay." Mason Ming nodded vigorously. He always listened to Miss Yin.

Yina Yin said, "All right, go find somewhere to wait. I've got other things to do."

With that, Yina Yin turned and walked away.

Mason Ming gazed longingly in the direction she left.

Suddenly, someone appeared beside him and said, "No wonder you turned me down—you're after the Yin heiress! But she's way out of your league."

Mason Ming turned to see Miss King looking at him mockingly.

Mason Ming stammered, "I—I didn't..."

"Hmph, whether you did or not, you're not qualified," Miss King continued. "Do you know who the Yin heiress's fiancé is? Who do you think you are? You dare compete with Mr. Field? You'd better wise up, or if you fall into Mr. Field's hands, you'll wish you were dead. If you just go with me, I could help you out."

Miss King still hadn't given up on Mason Ming.

Mason Ming's expression changed instantly.

He felt like Miss King had seen right through him.
