False Affection
Early the next morning, at the Prince of Qin's Manor.
Alexander Hayes awoke from his hangover, opening his eyes to see Lily Evans's gentle smile as she wiped his face with a handkerchief.
Alexander's gaze softened instantly, as tender as spring water, looking at this woman who gave him a sense of home, family, and love.
"You drank quite a bit last night," Lily teased, tapping Alexander on the forehead. "Does it hurt?"
Alexander rubbed his head, surprised to find he didn't feel any of the usual discomfort from a hangover!
"You don't feel uncomfortable, do you? My father’s hangover medicine really works." Lily picked up a small bottle from the side. "Father sent this over early this morning. He said you had one pill last night, and if you still felt bad, you could take another. Judging by how you look, you’re fine, so I’ll put the medicine away. But let’s agree on something—no more drinking without restraint. It’s bad for your health."
Lily sounded just like a nagging little wife, but Alexander found her words heartwarming.
This kind of caring scolding is what family is all about.
"Yes, yes, I’ll listen to my dear wife!" Alexander caught Lily’s hand and gave it a gentle kiss.
Lily scoffed, "Yesterday, your mother mentioned New Year’s dinner. Have you made up your mind? Let me know in advance so I can arrange things with my parents."
Alexander frowned slightly. "Mother wants us to go back to the Marquis Valor Estate for New Year’s dinner. She’s hoping we’ll bring your parents too."
Lily’s expression turned cold. "I won’t dine with the woman who tried to kill my mother. If you want to go, go by yourself."
Alexander immediately shook his head. "No, I’m not going. I won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do. No one can make you forgive someone who hurt your family."
Lily looked at him, her eyes softening. "You really mean it?"
Alexander nodded solemnly. "I’ve already made up my mind. From now on, my home is wherever you and your family are. I won’t be swayed by the Marquis Valor Estate’s false affections."
Lily’s heart warmed. She smiled, her voice gentle. "Thank you, Alexander. You’re not the Lucky Fool anymore."
Alexander chuckled, pulling Lily into his arms. "I have you, Lily Evans. I don’t need anything else in this world."
In this moment, their hearts were closer than ever. Genuine affection and loyalty triumphed over manipulative family ties.
