Afraid to Meet

1/4/2026

Wayne Wang tried to stop his son, but Evan Wang didn’t give him a chance.

Watching Evan Wang’s departing figure, Wayne Wang’s face shifted between anger and frustration.

After a long time, Wayne Wang finally spoke softly, "Investigate this Miss Cecilia Gu’s background. The Gu family has already fallen and been delisted domestically—they’re nothing to fear. Since my son likes her, whether she agrees or not, even if we have to force her, get her in front of Evan Wang! Maybe that’s the only way to save my fragile relationship with my son."

The secretary hesitated, "Wayne Wang, S City isn’t our turf."

Just thinking about how his sure-win bid three years ago was snatched away by Charles Yin made Wayne Wang grit his teeth in anger.

He snorted coldly, "So what? We grab her and leave—once we’re in Capital City, I’m not afraid of Charles Yin!"

The secretary didn’t think this was a reliable plan, but Wayne Wang was his boss, so he didn’t dare defy him. He could only obey: "Yes, Wayne Wang."

Cici had no idea that just after returning home, she’d already caught the eye of some random old man—who wanted to package her up and deliver her to his son as a gift to fix their father-son bond.

After Cici got back to her room, she took a hot shower and planned to rest and shake off the jet lag.

Ugh, jet lag is the worst.

She slept for ages, and unsurprisingly, when she woke up, it was already ten at night.

She grabbed the watch by her bed to check the time. At this hour, there was nothing to do but go out for a late-night snack.

Cici randomly grabbed a loose spring outfit from a pile of dresses, tossed it on, and didn’t bother brushing her long hair—just ran her fingers through it, pulled out a peach-wood carved chopstick, and pinned her hair into a messy bun. Stray locks framed her sleepy face, giving her a lazy, irresistible charm.

After pocketing her room card and grabbing her bag, Cici took the elevator down, planning to wander around and find something to eat.

Ten o’clock at night—the city’s nightlife was just getting started.

Cici breathed in the crisp night air, strolling down the street and watching groups of young people laughing and goofing off.

There were girls in heavy makeup heading for the clubs, and small-time bosses with cash to burn looking for excitement.

Cici passed by the entrance of a nightclub and saw all sorts of people gathering there with their own motives, ready for a night of craziness.

When Cici spotted a street food stall with tons of snacks, she headed over and ordered a bunch, happily digging in by herself.

Just as Cici was enjoying her food, a sudden argument broke out at the next table: "What’s your problem? This woman is mine now. Who are you to boss her around?"

"Ha! She was in my bed just last night—don’t tell me she’s your woman!" Another voice shouted back, "Not convinced? Then come at me!"

Cici couldn’t believe she’d run into a fight just trying to grab a late-night snack. Was her luck really that bad?

Before Cici could react, the guys at the next table really started brawling.

Someone flipped the table, dishes and cups shattering everywhere.

A shard even landed on Cici’s table.

Seeing that, Cici didn’t dare stick around. She paid up, packed her food, and turned to leave.

But luck was not on her side tonight—sometimes even drinking water gets stuck in your teeth.

Cici tried to dodge, but things weren’t going her way.

Just as Cici was about to escape, the woman at the center of the chaos suddenly screamed, grabbed Cici’s arm, and pulled her down in panic!

Cici was so scared she nearly jumped out of her skin!

At that moment, a strong arm suddenly appeared in front of Cici, grabbed her arm, and yanked her away from falling to the ground.

As the woman was pulled over, he raised his foot and kicked her hard in the chest.

The woman didn’t expect to get kicked. Caught off guard, she crashed to the ground face-first.

Before Cici could process what happened, she was pulled into a stranger’s arms.

"Sorry, I’m late." A strange voice sounded above her head.

Instinctively, Cici pushed him away and looked up. A man who seemed familiar yet strange gazed at her apologetically.

"You are..." Cici asked, puzzled.

Another overly friendly guy? Why did she feel a weird sense of déjà vu—not her own, but someone else’s...

"This isn’t the place to talk. Come with me." Seeing the chaos wasn’t over, he shielded Cici and quickly led her away.

Cici knew she couldn’t stay, so she obediently followed him out.

The man opened the car door, helped Cici in, then got into the driver’s seat himself and sped off.

Once they’d left, both of them heard police sirens wailing in the distance.

The fight back there was probably over by now.

Cici had zero interest in other people’s drama—she didn’t want to get dragged into it.

She glanced at the driver, still puzzled. "You are...?"

"I’m Eric Jiang." The man’s features were striking, and he vaguely resembled Charles Yin.

"Ah, thank you for tonight! If you hadn’t stepped in, I’d probably be in trouble." Cici quickly thanked him.

"It’s nothing. Sorry I was late—glad you’re okay." Eric Jiang gave Cici a gentle smile and slowly parked the car by the park.

Cici didn’t really get what he meant, but since he’d saved her, she couldn’t just be ungrateful.

Only then did Cici realize she was still holding her packed late-night snack.

Cici raised her hand, "My takeout survived—want to share?"

Eric Jiang lowered his eyes, a smile spreading across his face. "Sure! I’ve got some beer in the trunk."

Cici and Eric Jiang got out, spread a mat on the park grass, set out the food and beer, and sat down together to share the simple meal.

"You didn’t have dinner?" Eric Jiang looked at Cici in surprise.

Cici nodded, "I took a nap and woke up at ten. At this hour, late-night snacks are all you get."

Eric Jiang nodded and quickly made a phone call, giving brief instructions.

Cici laid out the snacks, grinning. "Hope you don’t mind street food."

Eric Jiang drove a sports car worth millions—would he turn up his nose at street food?

Without another word, Eric Jiang took the chopsticks Cici handed him and immediately tried a bite.

Seeing Eric Jiang being so easygoing, Cici smiled and joined him.

This was the first time Cici had met Eric Jiang since her memories were sealed.

With the night breeze blowing, Eric Jiang’s gaze at Cici grew more complicated and conflicted.

Three years ago, if it hadn’t been for the Jiang Family...

Cici wouldn’t have suffered so much.

Eric Jiang couldn’t help but feel guilty deep down.

Besides, Cici had always been someone special to him.

Noticing Eric Jiang staring at her, Cici couldn’t help but laugh, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"It’s nothing." Eric Jiang reluctantly looked away. "Are you back in China for good, or just visiting?"

After asking, Eric Jiang actually got nervous.

He seemed especially afraid that after tonight, it’d be ages before he saw her again.

But Cici asked back, "You know me?"

Eric Jiang nodded.

Cici rubbed her forehead. "Wow, so many people seem to know me, but I don’t remember any of them. I guess you saving me tonight wasn’t a coincidence."

"Yeah." Eric Jiang didn’t deny it. "I came specifically to see you."

Cici paused, chopsticks in hand. "Looking for me?"

"I wanted to see for myself that you’re okay." Eric Jiang’s handsome face flashed with regret. "What happened back then was the Jiang Family’s fault! Cici, whatever punishment you want, I’ll accept it. All these years, I’ve waited for a chance to apologize to you in person."

A hint of confusion flashed in Cici’s eyes. What exactly happened back then?

Why did everyone seem so hung up on the past?

"Who am I?" Cici blurted out, unable to help herself.

"Of course you’re Cici Grant... You haven’t gotten your memories back yet?" Eric Jiang finally realized, "Then why did you come back to China?"

Eric Jiang finally noticed that ever since they met tonight, Cici had been distant and unfamiliar.

Looks like he’d been overthinking things...

Cici’s expression grew serious. "I came back to find my lost memories, Mr. Jiang..."

"Don’t call me that—just use my name." Eric Jiang interrupted her. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Cici thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I’m totally lost myself. No one else can help—I’ll just have to figure it out on my own."

Eric Jiang’s eyes dimmed, but after a moment, he smiled again, showing his neat white teeth. "Alright, let’s start over. I’m Eric Jiang, heir to the Jiang Family."

"Nice to meet you, I’m Yun Xi." Cici replied with a gentle smile.

Yun Nuo, Yun Xi...

Eric Jiang’s gaze turned blurry for a moment.

At that moment, Cici seemed to merge the qualities of Yun Nuo and Cici Grant. Old memories became clear again.

While they chatted, a car sat quietly in the corner of the park.

Inside, someone watched the two of them sitting on the grass, sharing their late-night snack.

He didn’t dare go over, didn’t dare show himself, didn’t even dare let her know he was there.

He just leaned back in his seat, watching Cici and Eric Jiang laughing together. His eyes flickered, and with a bitter smile he murmured, "As long as you’re back, that’s enough..."

There are so many things, so many times...

Some things might never be spoken in this lifetime.
