Arthur Evans Admits His Mistake

Arthur Evans was nearly driven mad with anger by Lila Green. Every time he saw her, he was reminded of his own foolishness—trying to cozy up to a wealthy young lady, only to end up with nothing but trouble. Honestly, he wished he could bash his head against the wall.

But he was even more ashamed to curry favor with May Parker. Back when May Parker was kicked out of the house, Arthur Evans had chased after her, nearly strangling her to death.

Now, asking Arthur Evans to bow his head and apologize to May Parker, to flatter her, was honestly harder than killing him.

Arthur Evans stiffened his neck and shouted angrily, "I am a scholar! I have integrity and dignity! How could I bow to a woman with a ruined reputation like her?"

Lila Green slapped him hard and yelled, "Integrity, my foot! Don't forget how you tricked me in the first place! Stop pretending to be so high and mighty in front of me, Arthur Evans. Do you think I don't know exactly what kind of person you are? Listen up, today you’re going whether you like it or not! If you don’t cozy up to your sister, I’ll make sure you never have a peaceful day again!"

Arthur Evans's face turned as red as pork liver, but as a scholar, he was helpless against Lila Green, who was as shameless and fierce as they come.

Lila Green shoved Arthur Evans into May Parker’s room and plastered a smile on her face, saying to May Parker, "May, your brother heard you got engaged and came all the way back from the city just to see you. Don’t let his usual stern face fool you—he really cares about you! You two are siblings, and once you get married, you’ll still need your family's support!"

After saying that, Lila Green shoved Arthur Evans out and slammed the door, shouting from outside, "Husband, have a good talk with May! You’re siblings—whatever misunderstandings you have, just talk them out. Go on, apologize to your sister properly!"

Now, only the Evans siblings were left in the room. Arthur Evans’s face changed colors so many times it could have started a dye shop.

May Parker sat proudly by her dressing table, fiddling with a gemstone ring, and said leisurely, "Tsk, look at this ruby ring. The Leo Family gave it to me. This one ring is worth two years of your family's expenses. Tsk, my fiancé really spoils me."

Arthur Evans stood awkwardly, gritting his teeth and saying nothing.

Seeing Arthur Evans’s sour expression, May Parker felt especially pleased. She glanced at him and said, "Brother, didn’t you always complain about my reputation? But you married a woman from a brothel—how is your reputation any better than mine?"

Arthur Evans clenched his fists, unable to say a single word.

"Tsk, I’m about to become the young mistress of the Leo Family, Brother." May Parker stood up gracefully and looked Arthur Evans up and down, clicking her tongue. "But what about you? You schemed so hard to climb the social ladder, but your wealthy father-in-law hasn’t helped you at all! How about this—if you kneel and apologize, I’ll talk to my fiancé and maybe he’ll toss you some silver, ha!"

Hatred boiled in Arthur Evans’s heart, but thinking of the Leo Family’s wealth, he forced himself to swallow it. He managed a stiff smile and said, "Little sister, I was wrong before—I was foolish. We’re siblings, can you forgive me?"

May Parker covered her mouth and giggled, "Brother, what did I just say? I told you to kneel and apologize. Don’t tell me you’ve studied yourself stupid and forgotten how to kneel? Fine, if you won’t apologize, my fiancé’s family sponsors Greenfield Academy. I’ll tell him not to let you in, and you can stay home and be a farmer!"

Arthur Evans’s face turned deathly pale. He dropped to his knees with a thud, biting his lip so hard that blood foamed in his mouth, and kowtowed to May Parker, "Sister, it was my fault. Please forgive me."

May Parker looked at Arthur Evans kneeling on the ground and laughed triumphantly, "Brother, you were all wrong before! Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, and Mom always said you were the hope of the Evans Family! But look at you now—can’t even pass the scholar’s exam, you’re a complete waste! I’ll make sure everyone knows the real star of the Evans Family is me, May Parker!"
