One-Inch Abyss

12/19/2025

Origin Inch was neither a continent nor a shattered meteorite. It appeared as an endless void, and when Joe Di swept his divine sense inside, he felt an illusion—as if his vitality and lifespan were being drawn away completely.

Standing at the edge of Origin Inch, Joe Di stepped forward. Instantly, he sensed his lifespan draining at a terrifying rate; if he lingered a few breaths longer, he would surely age to death on the spot.

Morning hair turns to snow by dusk—no phrase better describes the flow of time at Origin Inch’s edge. No wonder cultivators from the Five Elements Universe who fled here rarely survived; to live in this place was truly a challenge.

Joe Di withdrew his foot, closed his eyes, and searched the edge of Origin Inch with his divine sense. After several days, he finally found a small fragment of Prime Iron. He waved his hand, collecting it, and examined it with his divine sense.

Faint traces of temporal law seeped from the fragment, and Joe Di’s divine sense could almost grasp its substance. For the first time, he truly sensed the essence of time. Within this tiny piece of Prime Iron, he saw time drip like water—slow, steady, and unceasing.

A rare find, but this little fragment was too small and of too low a grade. In other places, temporal law-infused materials would be priceless, but it was far from enough to forge his Fate's Loom.

Just as Joe Di pondered ways to venture deeper into Origin Inch for better materials, a ripple of Dao resonance stirred the space.

Someone was fighting here? Joe Di was astonished and swept his divine sense outward. Soon, he saw two combatants: an elderly woman with snow-white hair and a gray-haired man.

Though the old woman was at the Convergence Realm, she was clearly outmatched by the man and forced to cling to Origin Inch’s edge. Whenever she couldn’t evade an attack, she would step into Origin Inch—only to be forced out again. Each entry let her block his strikes, but at the cost of her own vitality.

Without hesitation, Joe Di landed beside the two battling cultivators. He didn’t wait for them to speak; he drew his Azure Veil Blade and struck.

Joe Di's blade struck at the gray-haired man, a Convergence Realm cultivator whose strength clearly surpassed the old woman.

"Are you insane? I am Qi Xi, steward of Genesis Saint Dao City, and you dare attack me?" The gray-haired man roared in fury as Joe Di locked down his domain and Dao resonance, slashing at him without hesitation.

"Qi Xi—is that supposed to be impressive? I dared to kill the city lord of Genesis Saint Dao City. What makes you think you matter?" Joe Di’s Azure Veil Blade surged with killing intent, its momentum relentless.

Qi Xi, horrified, tried to retreat desperately. Yet he soon realized that, despite being a peak Convergence Realm cultivator, he was utterly immobilized within Joe Di’s domain. Who was this terrifying opponent?

"Stop! I’m from the Seven Realms Universe! If you kill me—even slaying the city lord—every force under heaven will hunt you down…" Qi Xi’s anger turned to panic as he realized he could not break free from Joe Di’s killing intent.

Joe Di laughed, "Seven Realms Universe? So what? Sorry, never heard of it…"

As he spoke, the Azure Veil Blade’s killing intent did not diminish in the slightest; blade light and murderous force unfurled into a sweeping curtain.

"Fellow Daoist, you mustn’t kill Qi Xi…" The white-haired old woman finally regained her senses and called out urgently.

Splatter! Blood burst forth as Joe Di unleashed waves of law. The void seemed to rupture, as if a boundary was torn open by his rules, revealing a massive rift.

It was indeed a complete world, filled with top-tier materials, divine crystals, spirit veins, and all manner of Dao fruits…

Both Qi Xi, not yet completely fallen, and the old woman whom Joe Di had saved, stood frozen in shock.

What amazed them was not that Joe Di had slain a powerful figure like Qi Xi in a single strike, but that he had opened a Convergence Realm cultivator’s personal world in mere moments. Even Zhan Yiji could not accomplish such a feat—yet this young man had done it.

"You opened my world?" Qi Xi stared at Joe Di in terror as he watched his possessions being swept away.

"What do you think? Would I show you any courtesy?" As he spoke, Joe Di unleashed Dao fire. Qi Xi’s remaining will was utterly erased by its flames.

In a short time, Joe Di had destroyed Qi Xi and ransacked his world. Only after everything was taken did the old woman recover from her shock. She quickly cupped her fists to Joe Di, "Ruoxi thanks Senior for saving my life."

Ruoxi’s hair was snow-white, while Joe Di’s was jet-black—he looked no older than twenty. The contrast made it seem odd for her to call him Senior, but here, no one thought it strange. In every universe, the strong are respected. That is an unchanging truth.

Joe Di waved his hand, "No need for thanks. We’re both from the Five Elements Universe—naturally, I’ll lend a hand."

"Senior is also from the Five Elements Universe?" Ruoxi was delighted. She hadn’t expected another powerhouse from her universe besides Ye Mo, Ning Cheng, and Senior Zixiao.

Before acting, Joe Di had sensed that Ruoxi cultivated in the Five Elements Universe; her Dao resonance was steeped in its cosmic laws.

He’d never met Qi Xi before, but from the man’s Dao resonance, Joe Di could tell he wasn’t a cultivator of the Five Elements Universe. Sparing him would’ve been strange.

Ruoxi added, "The reason I asked you not to kill Qi Xi is because he’s from the Seven Realms Universe."

"So what?" Joe Di frowned.

Ruoxi sighed, "The Seven Realms Universe is full of powerful cultivators. Their Dao Master is Zhan Yiji, the city lord of Genesis Saint Dao City—his mastery is unfathomable, and he’s considered the strongest in the Creation Universe. On the surface, he seems ordinary, but he’s deeply arrogant. He believes only those from the Seven Realms Universe are true elites; anyone else is just a bystander."

Joe Di looked at Ruoxi in surprise—not because of the Seven Realms Universe, but at her use of the phrase 'just a bystander.'

Seeing Joe Di’s surprise, Ruoxi thought her words had enlightened him. She continued, "If I’m right, the Seven Realms Universe’s experts will be here soon. We should leave quickly—there’s still time. Also, Senior, you may have been marked. Be careful."

Joe Di aimed his strike at the gray-haired man, who was also at the Convergence Realm and clearly stronger than the old woman.
