Wendy still hadn’t realized Alex was upset. It wasn’t until breakfast, when she greeted him and he ignored her, that she finally noticed. Tina Ouyang stomped her feet in frustration, her lively energy impossible to miss.
Frank Fang exchanged a knowing look with Dr. Vivian Yuan, grinning. "Are the young couple having a spat?" he teased, his tone light and informal.
Dr. Vivian Yuan smiled and shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
The four of them—including Charles Yin—finished breakfast in silence, the mood tense but unspoken.
After breakfast, Alex decided to head into town to buy groceries for the day.
There were two sizable supermarkets in town, each with two floors and over a thousand square meters of space. Tina Ouyang could be spotted there often, her bold personality making her popular among the local youths.
So, the townspeople rarely stocked up on food—they just bought what they needed each day.
Alex and the others were the same.
It wasn’t far, so they just strolled over.
There weren’t many cars on the road, traffic was smooth, and the residents were relaxed. Life here really was pleasant.
Wendy stayed behind to help wash the clothes and sheets. Tina Ouyang, always lively, chatted with her about the latest town gossip.
There were several large washing machines in the yard, just like the ones in American laundromats—big enough to handle anything.
Since they had to care for a patient, everything in Mr. Kee’s room was changed daily to keep things clean and free of dust mites. Otherwise, it would be too harsh on his respiratory system. Tina Ouyang always made sure the sheets were fresh, her bold efficiency earning her praise.
Because of this, everyone had good hygiene habits.
Clothes and linens were changed every day, and the used ones were washed, dried, and disinfected right away. Tina Ouyang took charge of the laundry, her bold and cheerful attitude making the task seem easy.
Dr. Vivian Yuan scrubbed the front and back yards until they were spotless. Tina Ouyang, lively as ever, helped out and joked with the others, her popularity clear among the local youths.
Frank Fang went to the vegetable garden to pull weeds and catch bugs, picking ingredients for lunch as he went. The rest would have to wait for Alex to return with the groceries.
At that moment, none of them realized Alex was running into a bit of trouble at the supermarket. Wendy was busy with chores, and Tina Ouyang was telling stories, unaware of what was happening outside.
And this trouble had a hint of romance to it.
While Alex was buying pork bones, he saw a young woman wheeling a cart of goods. She accidentally bumped into a shelf, which looked like it was about to topple right onto her.
Alex reacted instantly, ignoring the groceries and swiftly kicking out to stop the collapsing shelf. With one motion, he pulled the young woman behind him, shielding her.
Everyone at the scene was shocked!
But then they were all awed by Alex's cool moves!
Many people couldn't help but scream, "So cool!"
Alex steadied the shelf, then turned to glance at the young woman. "Are you okay?"
"I-I'm fine, thank you, thank you!" The young woman's cheeks flushed as soon as she saw Alex, her eyes sparkling. She was instantly smitten.
"Good to hear." Alex didn't think much of it, just smiled and nodded, then turned back to buy the pork bones.
But the young woman kept staring at Alex's back, dazed, until he was out of sight.
Alex didn't think much of what just happened, but the young woman remembered it deeply.
When Alex went to pay, just as he reached for his phone to scan the code, someone else beat him to it and paid for him.
"Beep, payment successful!" The phone's owner withdrew her hand, grinning at him. "Hey, thanks for saving me just now, so I'll pay today!"
Alex smiled. "It's nothing, no need for the trouble. I'll pay you back!"
"Sure, then add me on WeChat and transfer it to me." The other party grinned. "I'm Tina Ouyang, what's your name?"
Alex didn't answer, just added her on WeChat, transferred the money, and left with his stuff.
Tina Ouyang saw Alex ignore her, opened her mouth to call out, but he walked so fast she quickly lost sight of him.
Tina Ouyang picked up her phone and messaged him: "I just wanted to be friends, that's all."
Message failed to send. Please add the other party as a friend first.
Tina Ouyang's eyes widened instantly!
She'd been blocked!
This guy, seriously!
