Testing the Waters

"What are you talking about?" The Clan Chief was completely stunned!

Ethan Yin pulled out a world map and showed it to him, deliberately pointing to several places: "You know, rare earth minerals are distributed all over the world. Look here, here, and here—these are all mineral-rich locations. This place, and this one, are already under the Yin Family's control. The mine I mentioned is the one our Yin Family is about to purchase, and it's about two and a half times the size of this one here."

Ethan Yin put on an apologetic expression and said emotionally, "I truly wanted to buy this mine a few days ago. Unfortunately... well, since it wasn't meant to be, there's no need to force it. Since my father has already bought mines elsewhere, our family's needs are met and we don't need to purchase any more. Clan Chief, we can still cooperate in other areas in the future. I think your rubber plantation is quite good. The yield is low, but the quality is decent. Maybe I can buy some to take back."

The Clan Chief was left speechless by Ethan Yin's words, unable to recover for a long time.

The Clan Chief stammered nervously, "We already agreed on this, how can you just say you're not buying?"

"But our family doesn't need it anymore. Even if I buy it, the price won't be the same as a few days ago." Ethan Yin wore a very apologetic look. "Besides, my father gave me strict orders: if we do buy, it can only be at one-third of the previous price."

"One-third? No, that's impossible!" The Clan Chief jumped up. "We had a deal!"

"I'm truly sorry, but my family only gave me authority over one-third of the funds." Ethan Yin looked conflicted and struggled. "These past few days, I've felt a real kinship with you, Clan Chief, and I really want to help you. But..."

Of course, all these words were just to trick the Clan Chief.

Naturally, Charles Yin hadn't bought any rare earth mines either.

Who told Casey Kofi to be so clueless and set her sights on him?

If Ethan Yin had to swallow this loss, he wouldn't be a Yin!

If the Kofi Family can't read the situation, then they can't blame him for scheming against them!

After the Clan Chief left, still uneasy about the deal, he sent someone to secretly investigate, wanting to see if Ethan Yin was lying to him.

Ethan Yin is far too clever to tell a lie that's easy to expose.

The Yin Family does own many mines, and there is indeed a rare earth mine, but it was bought a long time ago—not recently.

But outsiders have no way of knowing that!

That's how information works—half true, half false, mixing reality and illusion, so the other side takes the bait.

When the Clan Chief heard that the Yin Family really had bought a rare earth mine, he was completely shocked!

This was a big catch he'd managed to reel in—was he really going to let it slip away just like that?

We're talking about boxes and boxes of gold here!

"Yin, don't do this—we had an agreement." The Clan Chief saw that Ethan Yin really didn't care about buying the mine anymore and panicked. "Let's stick to our original price, I'll have my people get things ready right away..."

"I'm truly sorry. I've already arranged for my team to leave in three days." Ethan Yin gave a lofty smile. "If there are other resources in the future, we can still work together."

After saying this, Ethan Yin waved his hand, and Quentin Sheng walked over carrying a box.

"This is a small gift I asked my family to prepare for you, Clan Chief, as a farewell present." Ethan Yin said with restraint. "My father said I've disturbed you for days, so the parting gift must be generous. This is a token of the Yin Family's sincerity—please don't refuse."

It was like a bolt from the blue for the Clan Chief!

The Clan Chief, dazed, returned to his estate. As soon as he walked in, a servant rushed up with a smile, "Miss Casey is awake!"

The Clan Chief perked up and hurried to the room, where he saw Casey Kofi lying weakly in bed.

Her fever was gone, but she was still in poor spirits.

"Daddy." Casey Kofi looked at the Clan Chief, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Alright, alright, as long as your fever is gone, that's good." The Clan Chief barely comforted his precious daughter. Seeing her awake, he hurried back to his own room.

He paced back and forth in his room for nearly half an hour before finally calling in several of his men and telling them about the Yin Family's plan to leave in three days.

"What? Wasn't he supposed to buy the mine? Three days? Why is he leaving?"

"Yeah, Clan Chief, you said there was no rush, to take it slow! Now look, they're not buying! Does that mean the gold we were promised is gone too?"

"Exactly, Clan Chief, did you get a clear answer? Why did he suddenly back out? Is it because Casey's pestering annoyed him? I've said it before! Casey can't just do as she pleases because of her status! He's the Yin Family heir—not some nobody! If you don't keep an eye on Casey, she'll cause trouble sooner or later!"

The Clan Chief, frustrated, said, "Enough, all of you! You think I want things to be this way? I just wanted a better deal! Who knew this mineral is everywhere in the world? Now the Yin Family is buying mines in other countries. We have to act fast—we can't let Yin leave just like that!"

"Did he make any offers? Clan Chief, honestly, you can't eat or drink these minerals—they're nowhere near as useful as gold. If you can sell, sell! Gold is always safer to hold onto!"

"Yes, yes, ask Yin if he'll buy it for less! This is a great opportunity—we can't miss it! The other families interested in this mine haven't been heard from lately. They must've heard the news and are buying elsewhere! It's not even that useful—just sell it!"

"So, what do you all think is a fair price?" The Clan Chief had lost his enthusiasm.

"Just sell it at one-third the price! Otherwise, if it sits here, we might end up with no gold at all!"

At this moment, the Clan Chief and his men probably had no idea that those other families who were interested in buying the mine had all backed out because Ethan Yin spoke to them privately. Out of respect for the Yin Family, they all gave up their intentions to buy.

Anyone who wants to stay on good terms with the Yin Family wouldn't dare offend them.

So the Clan Chief's plan to create artificial scarcity was completely ruined!

Originally, Ethan Yin hadn't wanted to be so ruthless, but who told Casey Kofi to pull that stunt?

Offending Ethan Yin and Miles Gu—now this won't be settled so easily!

There's no way they'll get away without paying for it.

On one side, Ethan Yin was lowering the price, playing hard to get.

On the other side, Miles Gu was subtly egging Wallace Kofi on to fight for power.

The two of them attacked from both sides.

Sure enough, the next day, Wallace Kofi rallied a group of people to confront the Clan Chief.

Wallace Kofi shouted angrily, "If our cousin can't bring benefits to the Kofi Family, he doesn't deserve this position! As Clan Chief, he should be thinking of the whole family—not just making things easy for Casey Kofi and missing out on such a great deal! He's the Kofi Family's disgrace!"

The Clan Chief's face darkened instantly. "Wallace, what are you trying to do?"

Wallace Kofi snorted, "What am I doing? I want the Clan Chief to give us all an explanation! If the mine had been sold, every member of the Kofi Family would have gotten a huge pile of gold. I just want to know why you cut off everyone's money!"

Wallace's words stirred up the crowd, and everyone started shouting: "That's right, Clan Chief, you owe us an explanation! We heard that Yin from the East wanted to buy our mine, but you kept putting off signing the contract. Now he doesn't want it and is buying elsewhere! Are you just looking out for yourself?"

"The Clan Chief took the position from our uncle! The old Clan Chief was smart and capable, so we didn't say anything. But now? The Clan Chief is incompetent and dragging down the whole Kofi Family! We demand a new Clan Chief!"

"Yes, give the Clan Chief's position to Wallace! Wallace promised us that if he becomes Clan Chief, he'll renegotiate with Yin and reopen the mine contract talks!"

"Change the Clan Chief! We want a new Clan Chief!"

"We insist on changing the Clan Chief! We support Wallace!"

The crowd erupted instantly.

The Clan Chief was so furious his face turned ashen. He turned to Wallace: "You want to be Clan Chief? You want my position?"

Wallace Kofi said smugly, "I'm not like my cousin. I've always maintained a very friendly relationship with Gu. As soon as I become Clan Chief, thanks to my connection with Gu, the Yin Family will definitely buy our mine!"

"Hmph, don't even think about it!" The Clan Chief's face darkened further. "I won't let you succeed!"

"Then you'd better figure out how to explain yourself to the Kofi Family!" Wallace looked at him, full of pride.

While they were making a scene, Ethan Yin and Miles Gu were quietly having tea.

"What do you think are the odds that Wallace will succeed in taking over?" Ethan Yin asked.

"Fifty-fifty," Miles Gu replied candidly. "The current Clan Chief has run things for a long time and still has plenty of supporters in the Kofi Family. Wallace's rebellion might not work. But—we can give him an extra bargaining chip."

Miles Gu smiled slyly. "If we play hard to get and use my good relationship with Wallace as an excuse, then let him sign the mine deal. Wallace's status in the Kofi Family will rise to rival the Clan Chief. Given time, it's not impossible for Wallace to take over."

Ethan Yin chuckled. "Excellent."

Miles Gu said, "We've already wasted too much time here. It's time to head home."

"Yes, it's time to go back." Ethan Yin nodded. He missed Cherry Miller so much it was driving him crazy.

He was worried that while he was away, some random nobodies would be circling around his Cherry.

"Then let's make it quick," Miles Gu said. "I'll have someone reach out to Wallace. I'm sure he'll appreciate the olive branch I'm offering."
