Back to their seats.
The woman next to Evan Lin widened her eyes, studying him seriously. "Thanks for just now," she said.
"No big deal."
Evan Lin shook his head.
"Those guys are my family's mortal enemies. They came here just to cause trouble."
She leaned back in her seat, clearly relaxing after shaking off the pursuers. "If I wasn’t in my ‘special time,’ those two wouldn’t stand a chance against me."
"I could take them both out with one punch each."
As she spoke, she even squeezed her fist for emphasis. Mentioning her ‘special time’ made her cheeks flush a little.
But seeing Evan Lin next to her wasn’t very interested, she pondered for a moment, then asked, "Hey, are you from Mercy Bay?"
"No."
"So you’re here as a tourist?"
Evan’s help just now had really boosted her impression of him.
These days, there aren’t many people who can stay so calm facing two muscle-bound thugs.
Even fewer would actually stand up for her.
Either they’re not strong enough, or they just never get the chance.
"Something like that."
Hearing Evan admit it, she instantly brightened. "Alright, if you’re not busy, why don’t you just come with me later?"
"My family’s got some stuff going on these days. Once it’s sorted out, I’ll personally show you around Mercy Bay. Sound good?"
As she spoke, something seemed to occur to her and she reached out to Evan. "I’m Yvette Locke!"
"Evan Nine Mysteries Lin."
Evan Lin shook hands with her.
When their hands met, Yvette Locke’s eyes curved with a smile. Even after letting go, she seemed a bit reluctant, recalling the warmth of Evan’s hand on her waist, her cheeks growing even redder.
Evan Nine Mysteries Lin, that name is so cool! Your parents must be cool too.
My name’s no good, though—Yvette Locke. It’s way too girly.
Yvette grinned as she said this, not acting distant at all.
She looked about twenty, but her attitude and appearance were more like a high schooler—straightforward and innocent, her eyes glued to Evan.
Seeing Yvette Locke like this made Evan subconsciously think of Molly Su, though Molly wasn’t nearly as lively.
Plenty of people in the bus were watching, and when they saw Yvette and Evan chatting so enthusiastically, most looked on with envy.
Getting noticed by such a pretty girl was praise enough; some even regretted not stepping up themselves.
The bus sped on.
After exiting the Mercy Bay City highway toll station, the bus hadn’t gone more than five hundred meters before the driver pressed the accelerator.
Holy crap, is everyone filming a movie today or something? What’s going on?
The driver swallowed nervously, his eyes full of panic.
Ahead, rows of black Mercedes sedans completely blocked the highway exit.
Men in black suits, looking anything but friendly, strode forward.
The leader wore casual clothes, but his exposed arms were thick with muscle, bulging with explosive strength.
He walked slowly up to the door; the driver didn’t dare curse, just obediently opened it.
Compared to the two weird bald muscle guys from before, these suited men were far more intimidating—a whole different league.
As soon as the door opened, the man boarded and quickly spotted Yvette Locke sitting in the back row.
Miss, it’s time to go home.
His tone was especially firm, and he made a gesture for her to come.
"Okay."
This time, Yvette Locke didn’t try to run. She got up, then glanced at Evan Lin beside her: "You coming too?"
"Once I finish up these few days, I’ll take you out to play around here. Otherwise, being alone would be boring."
Yvette looked at him expectantly.
As she spoke, her gaze never left Evan.
But as soon as she invited him, the leader’s sharp, hawk-like eyes instantly locked onto Evan.
He subconsciously clenched his fists, ready to throw down at any moment.
"Miss, things at home haven’t been looking good lately. Last time you snuck out, it almost ended badly. If you bring a stranger home now, you might cause unnecessary trouble."
The man frowned, his voice full of displeasure.
"It’s fine, big bro just saved me, you know. He’s a really good guy."
Yvette Locke giggled.
Big bro?
Hearing Yvette call him that, Evan Lin felt a little weird inside.
The man’s brows shot up, his face turned cold, and his gaze toward Evan grew even more murderous.
"Miss Stitch, if you don’t let him come home with me, I’m not going back."
Yvette Locke saw his expression change and immediately protested.
Miss Stitch?
As soon as Yvette said it, quite a few people couldn’t help but laugh.
"Such a tough guy, called Miss Stitch?"
"Geez, that’s even girlier than that effeminate bald musclehead from before!"
"Hahaha!"
A few people had just finished laughing.
Bang!
A massive fist smashed right into the window next to them, shattering it into countless pieces and instantly scaring everyone silent.
"Miss, if you bring him home, you’ll get scolded."
Miss Stitch sighed.
"Doesn’t matter, you’re the one who’ll get yelled at anyway."
Yvette stubbornly plopped back down, puffing up her cheeks: "If you don’t bring him, I’m not going home."
Miss Stitch hesitated for a long time, then finally nodded helplessly: "Fine, let’s go. There’s still a lot happening at home, and you need to get ready."
Hearing that, Yvette Locke’s face instantly lit up with happiness.
She stood up and looked at Evan: "Come on, let’s go. Stay at my place for a while, then I’ll take you out to have fun."
"Being alone is seriously boring."
Miss Stitch stared at Evan, eyes intense, trying to get him to back off.
If Evan chose not to go, Yvette wouldn’t be able to say anything else.
But Evan just picked up his bag and stood up.
Seeing this, Miss Stitch couldn’t help but think this kid was clueless.
"Let’s go, let’s go—time to head home."
Yvette Locke beamed.
Miss Stitch didn’t say anything more, afraid the young lady would get upset.
He led Evan and Yvette off the bus.
Originally, Miss Stitch planned to put Evan in a different car, but under Yvette’s fierce insistence, he had to let Evan ride with her.
Once in the car, Evan and Yvette sat together in the back seat.
The whole convoy started up, roaring off toward Mercy Bay City.
