Within One Year

Every so often, Molly Su’s body would suddenly become unbearably hot, as if she were on fire.

Back when the symptoms weren’t so severe, she could just lie in bed for a few minutes and her temperature would drop on its own.

But lately, the attacks have been coming more often, her temperature climbing higher and lasting longer each time. If this keeps up, Molly will burn out and die from exhaustion.

To cure Molly’s strange illness, Victor Su searched everywhere for famous doctors—be it mainstream hospitals, renowned wandering healers, or even legends like Medicine King Valley—yet no one has managed to help her.

This time, Victor turned to the Miracle Hand Sect out of desperation. Normally, he’d never want anything to do with such a shady, half-righteous, half-evil organization.

Just now, the young man before him had reconnected Blade’s shattered bones in a few easy moves, then used those miraculous silver needles to heal Victor’s years-old internal injuries. Now, all Victor can do is look at Evan Lin with hope in his eyes.

At that moment, Molly also raised her eyes to look at the young man standing in front of her. This illness had robbed her of a normal girl’s life for over ten years—no school, no ordinary days—and she’d long since prepared herself for the worst. But now, seeing Evan and remembering his bold claim that he could cure her, a faint hope quietly stirred in her heart.

“I can treat her,” Evan said calmly, looking at Molly, “but to fully cure it will take a bit more time.”

Victor instantly grew anxious. “Little friend, you know how bad Molly’s situation is. Every attack is worse than death. If you need anything, just name it!”

Victor assumed Evan was just stalling to bargain for a higher price.

“I can first suppress the problem in her body, guaranteeing her safety for at least a year. As for a complete cure, that will take some more time.”

Evan shook his head slightly.

In fact, when Evan saw Molly’s eyes up close, he already had his suspicions.

Her condition might not even be an illness at all, but a special innate constitution—the Fire Spirit Physique.

People born with the Fire Spirit Physique have a natural affinity for heat and flame far beyond ordinary folk. On the Immortal Martial Continent, someone like her could advance by leaps and bounds with just a bit of cultivation, and if she had talent for alchemy, she’d be a rising star in pill-refining.

But on Earth, where spiritual qi is nearly exhausted and true cultivation methods are lost, people with her kind of special constitution end up looking like they have a weird disease, because there’s no way to properly channel the fire spirit inside them.

Worse yet, there’s always the risk of sudden death.

Even now, if Evan wanted to forcibly seal her Fire Spirit Physique, he could do it—but the cost would be huge and simply not worth it. After all, he’s only at early Foundation Establishment right now.

Still, after a trip to Medicine King Valley, Evan might have a much easier solution when he returns.

Back then, Elder Fire’s Fire Crystal Stone definitely wasn’t just a single shard. If he can find the main body of the Fire Crystal Stone and refine it, then harmonizing Molly’s Fire Spirit Physique will be much simpler.

Evan thought this over to himself.

Victor looked at Evan, a little disappointed, but still nodded. “Then I’ll trouble you, little friend.”

“No problem.”

Evan stepped forward, raised a finger, and lightly tapped the spot between Molly’s brows.

Molly instinctively wanted to dodge when Evan reached out, but seeing the calm, emotionless look in his eyes—so different from the way other men looked at her—she suppressed her discomfort and stood still.

As Evan’s fingertip touched Molly’s brow, Victor and Blade exchanged a glance, both seeing the same shock in each other’s eyes.

In their eyes, where Evan’s finger touched, it was like a still, peaceful lake rippling with gentle waves that spread outward in circles.

That single touch seemed ordinary and effortless, but as his finger landed, the previously stuffy air in the room suddenly felt much cooler.

Molly’s eyes flew wide. She felt as if her whole body had been plunged into a pool of cool water—her skin tingled with freshness, and inside, a gentle stream seemed to flow from her brow through her limbs. In just a few breaths, the burning in her chest eased up, and even her pale, sickly face now had a healthy, dewy glow.

“With this, you’ll be safe for at least a year.”

Evan withdrew his hand. The Water Spirit power he’d just gathered now wrapped invisibly around all of Molly’s internal organs. Thanks to this water essence inside her, her temperature would stay at normal levels and her life was out of danger.

“Molly, how do you feel?” Victor couldn’t help but ask from the side.

“I feel... so much better. My mind’s clearer, and the burning in my chest is gone.” Molly’s face lit up. Looking at Evan standing there, she bowed respectfully. “Thank you!”

Evan nodded coolly. “No problem. There’s nothing else for now—I’ll come back later to cure the root of your condition.”

“Little friend, thank you so much. By the way, how should I address you?” Victor was so excited he’d lost all his usual patriarch composure; now, looking at Evan, his eyes were full of awe.

Evan was about to say his real name, Evan Nine-Mysteries Lin, but then remembered Joy Zheng and Lucy Lu were still at the resort. If they found out, they’d definitely worry.

No matter how impressive Evan’s abilities were, they’d only ever seen him win math competitions or other stuff that, while cool, was just normal. But if they found out he was actually Evan Nine-Mysteries Lin, who knows what wild ideas they’d get.

Noticing Evan’s slight frown, Victor quickly realized he didn’t want to talk about it, so he hurried to say, “Then I’ll just call you ‘little friend,’ okay?”

Very few people ever get called ‘little friend’ by Victor Su. Actually, he’d rather lower himself even more, but calling Evan ‘senior’ would just make him sound old.

Earlier, after coming down from Thousand-Saints Mountain, Victor had sent Blade to look into Evan’s background. But before Blade found anything, the Su family got busy and left Minghai, so the matter was dropped.

“That’s fine.”

Evan nodded calmly.

“Then, little friend, if you don’t mind, would you do me the honor of joining us for lunch?” Victor asked carefully. Evan thought for a moment, then nodded.

But he didn’t forget to remind Victor to be clear about what should and shouldn’t be said.

Victor wholeheartedly agreed. After a quick cleanup, he and Molly followed Evan out of the villa toward the main resort, leaving Blade behind to tidy up and dispose of Dr. Dong’s body.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the resort, the carefully prepared meal was already waiting on the table.
