Essence-Scattering Needle

2/27/2026

Yvonne Darkmoon had no idea who was secretly protecting her—she couldn’t even sense their presence. That alone proved how formidable the person was, so she frowned in deep thought.

General Leon Long scanned the area, and after confirming there were no traces, he snorted coldly. "Not coming out? Then I’ll force you out."

He unleashed his aura, flooding every corner, hoping to detect any disturbance in the surroundings.

Evan Yang was now hiding beside the energy stone powering the formation. He knew just waiting wasn’t an option. "I have to strike while he’s distracted," he thought.

With that thought, Evan acted. He carefully studied the stone, and then, while General Leon Long was distracted, quietly removed it.

When General Leon Long realized the stone had suddenly vanished, he was shocked. "Damn it!" he cursed, compressing his aura around the formation’s source, but still found nothing.

Furious, he shouted, "Who are you? If you have the guts, come out!"

Yvonne instantly felt the pressure ease up—that was because the formation’s energy source had been removed.

Evan Yang hid silently in the shadows, making no sound. He wasn’t foolish—someone like General Leon Long could defeat him with a single finger if he was careless.

When no one answered, General Leon Long looked at Damien Darkmoon and said, "Elder Damien, are all your friends like this?"

"General Leon Long, I don’t know what you’re talking about. But I’m grateful to whoever helped me from the shadows, even if I don’t know who it is," Yvonne said, withdrawing her aura and addressing her surroundings.

Seeing that Yvonne genuinely seemed clueless, General Leon Long snorted, "Stop pretending! You definitely know what’s going on!"

"Do you really think I’m that kind of person?" Yvonne retorted coldly.

General Leon Long knew Yvonne’s character, but if he couldn’t find the root cause of the current situation, he had no way to punish her. This frustrated him even more.

So the stalemate dragged on. General Leon Long snorted, "Fine. Since the person hiding in the shadows won’t come out, I’ll just sit here. I refuse to believe you’ll never show yourself."

Evan Yang heard this and muttered to himself, "He’s just going to keep waiting? That won’t work. I still have two needles left—I need to do something."

General Leon Long extended his divine sense. He suspected the hidden person was either too weak or too scared to face him directly. Otherwise, with such concealment skills, they could have ambushed him and left him seriously injured.

Evan Yang had no idea what General Leon Long was thinking. He just continued waiting in the shadows for the right moment.

Time passed bit by bit. Outside, Yvonne Darkmoon grew increasingly worried since General Leon Long hadn’t come out for so long. She even cursed, "Grandpa Sleepy, you’re a bad guy! You’re on their side!"

"Yvonne, this is for your own good. Just stay put," Grandpa Sleepy sighed. At the same time, he muttered to himself, "It’s been so long—they should be coming out by now."

"So that's why he couldn't gather his strength," Evan Yang replied, finally understanding.

Grandpa Sleepy, bored, chuckled, "You're not bad, kid. If you're really good friends with Yvonne, why not come play with me for a while?"

Evan Yang hesitated. "Senior, I might not have time..."

Grandpa Sleepy grinned, "Don't be so stingy, kid. There are benefits to playing with me."

"Benefits? What kind of benefits are you talking about, Senior?" Evan Yang asked, recalling how last time the Vagabond Sage had gambled with him and lost, gifting him many advantages. He knew he couldn't absorb too much energy at once, but he could store it for later or give it to others.

"Well, I could teach you my secret technique," Grandpa Sleepy offered.

Evan Yang was surprised to hear 'secret technique.' Considering Grandpa Sleepy's formidable abilities—being able to sense Evan's presence—he realized how valuable it would be. There was no reason not to learn.

Evan Yang agreed, and Grandpa Sleepy began transmitting some cultivation insights to him.

Evan Yang wondered if he was supposed to play first or receive the secret art, but he didn't refuse—there was no reason to turn down such benefits.

Meanwhile, Yvonne Darkmoon had already entered the dungeon.

"Why are you back again?" Damien Darkmoon exclaimed in surprise.

"I was worried that guy would harm Dad. I wanted Grandpa Sleepy to help, but that old man—maybe someone bribed him—actually blocked me from entering. So annoying!" Yvonne Darkmoon fumed after seeing her father was unharmed.

Damien, still thinking about what happened earlier, asked curiously, "Girl, something happened here just now."

"What happened?" Yvonne asked, puzzled.

Damien recounted everything to Yvonne. After listening, she was stunned. "What? Dad, you mean someone helped you?"

"That's right. The person wasn't all that strong, but he could hide himself and used a needle to keep the other guy from gathering any power," Damien explained.

"Someone like that? Why didn't I see them? When did they get in?" Yvonne exclaimed in shock.

"Not just you—even I and General Leon Long didn't notice him. That's why Leon got played," Damien said.

"If that's true, I really have to thank that person," Yvonne said sincerely.

Damien asked, "You said Grandpa Sleepy wouldn't let you in just now?"

"Yeah, that old guy. I'm starting to really dislike him," Yvonne said, still angry.

"Yvonne, it looks like you misunderstood Grandpa Sleepy," Damien said.

"I misunderstood him? Do you mean he helped you, Dad? But that's impossible—he was outside the whole time," Yvonne protested.

"I'm saying it's possible. Otherwise, why wouldn't he let you in? And with what I know about Grandpa Sleepy, he's not that kind of person," Damien explained.

Yvonne had known Grandpa Sleepy for years, and honestly didn't believe he was colluding with General Leon Long.

"Looks like I need to ask him directly," Yvonne decided after thinking it over.

"Yeah, and thank him for me while you're at it," Damien said.

Yvonne nodded. "Dad, you stay here and rest. I'll come visit again in a few days."

"Be careful. Now that I'm not outside, I'm worried others might target you," Damien warned.

Yvonne originally wanted to mention Yang Tian, but seeing her father's worry, she kept quiet.

She reluctantly said goodbye to Damien and went outside, where she saw Grandpa Sleepy napping.

Thinking about what happened, Yvonne, though still annoyed, politely asked, "Grandpa Sleepy, was it you who saved my dad just now?"

"What? I don't know anything about that," Grandpa Sleepy replied, shaking his head.

"Grandpa Sleepy, don't pretend. I know the truth—there's only you here. I doubt someone could just appear out of nowhere to save my dad," Yvonne insisted.

"Actually, you're right. There really was someone else," Grandpa Sleepy admitted.

"What? Someone else? You mean you know who helped my dad?" Yvonne exclaimed.

"Yes, you could say that," Grandpa Sleepy replied.

"Really? Where is he? Tell me!" Yvonne said, surprised to learn there was another person.

"That's a secret. I can't tell you," Grandpa Sleepy said with a smile.

"Grandpa Sleepy, how could you? Tell me, or I won't play with you anymore!" Yvonne said anxiously.
