Chapter 1456

Darkness and frost descended, turning the yellow desert into a seamless black expanse, merging with the sky. Outside Heather City, it was already doomsday. In such a place, ordinary mages stood no chance of survival, and anyone weaker than a mage would be doomed the moment they stepped outside, let alone survive the entire night.

Along the city walls of Heather City, many numb-faced people gazed at the apocalyptic scene outside, unable to suppress their fear. One by one, they hurried away from the walls.

Leon walked down the street. No one looked at him, no one cared. But as soon as they sensed he was a mage, people instinctively avoided him. Mages might be the strongest left here, but even so, nobody paid them much mind anymore...

Mages still had to leave Heather City to hunt and search for anything that might still be useful. Many places could only be reached by mages; only true mages could venture beyond the thirty-kilometer perimeter of Heather City.

Yet every day, mages left Heather City, and many never returned. The city had seen plenty of such cases, and no one knew if they'd survive to see tomorrow...

Expressionless, Leon stared at the deathly still Heather City. Suddenly, he understood: at this moment, the Northend World was already dead. What remained here were just corpses, and those left behind were merely waiting for final release. They had lost hope, and so had the Northend World...

In such circumstances, whether true destruction had arrived or not—there was little difference anymore...

The chubby kid clung motionless to Leon's shoulder, playing dead—he was utterly terrified. On his first solo mission, he'd encountered Leon, a terrifying opponent, and then followed him into the Deep World of the Realm of Nightmares, witnessing this collapsing world. Even the numb, lifeless faces of the ordinary people around them seemed to exert unbearable pressure on the chubby kid.

Pretending to be dead, the chubby kid was ignored by Leon, who walked straight down the main avenue to the heart of Heather City. There, he gazed at the colossal Sanctuary Tower, carefully observing every detail. He'd studied it before, but back then, his perspective couldn't possibly compare to now.
