Max Ma

"What did you just say? How dare you talk to Brother Yang like that?"

Hearing Evan Lin speak up, the boy from before looked at him with a changed expression, his eyes full of contempt as if he were looking at an idiot.

Hank Chu and Ken Feng were both startled. Instead of looking toward Evan Lin, they watched Brandon Yang closely, wary of any sudden outburst.

But to their surprise, after hearing Evan Lin's words, Brandon Yang's expression flickered several times. Instead of exploding with anger as usual, he actually lowered his head and said, "It was a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding. I misspoke, that's all."

Brandon Yang kept his eyes down, not daring to meet Evan Lin's gaze.

"If it's just a misunderstanding, why haven't you apologized yet? Do I really need to spell it out for you?"

Evan Lin spoke indifferently.

Max Ma and the others felt their hearts skip a beat. What surprised them even more was that, after hearing Evan Lin's words, Brandon Yang gritted his teeth so hard his face turned ashen, but finally turned to Ken Feng and Hank Chu and muttered, "Sorry, Ken. Sorry, Hank. It was all my fault just now."

"If you're still upset, you can curse me out. I promise I won't talk back!"

Brandon Yang didn't speak loudly, but at that moment, everyone's attention was focused on him. As soon as he finished, the whole table was stunned!

"You... Brandon Yang, are you feeling okay today or something?" Max Ma frowned, looking at Brandon with total confusion in his eyes.

He really couldn't figure out why Brandon Yang would suddenly act so cowardly.

He glanced over at Evan Lin, sizing him up from head to toe twice, but still couldn't spot anything special about this kid.

On the other side, Hank Chu and Ken Feng were both taken aback by Brandon Yang's words, but quickly waved their hands to show it was no big deal.

"I need to use the restroom for a bit. Sorry, excuse me." Brandon Yang propped himself up on his crutch and stood from his seat.

Yvonne Xie quickly got up and went over to help Brandon Yang toward the restroom.

"Damn it, what rotten luck! Why the hell is that guy here?"

As soon as they got away, Brandon Yang's face changed, filled with hostility, his eyes flashing with both fear and hatred.

"If it weren't for that guy, I wouldn't be stuck with this damn crutch right now, seriously!"

Brandon Yang gritted his teeth hard. He wasn't stupid—when he saw Evan Lin just now, his heart sank, and he knew perfectly well he wasn't a match for that guy at all.

If I'd really flipped out just now, I'd probably have gotten my ass handed to me in front of everyone. All I could do was suck it up and play the fool.

So what do we do now? That guy's here—should we just dip?" Yvonne Xie glanced at Brandon Yang's stormy face, her voice shaky.

She still remembered Evan Lin at Peaceful Melody Restaurant, stomping Brandon's leg—so chill, so savage, totally not like any normal high school kid!

Leave? Hell no! Why would we bail now?!

Brandon Yang's face turned cold, a nasty smirk creeping up. "I was wondering when I'd get to settle the score with him, but since he just walked right into my trap, don't blame me for what happens next!"

After saying that, Brandon Yang yanked out his phone and called up his brother.

Yo, bro! It's Bin Hong!

Yeah, we're at the artificial lake right now. That guy—the one who busted my leg—is here too! Can you come over?

Awesome! I'll keep him here, no way I'm letting him leave!

After hanging up, Brandon Yang squeezed his phone tight, a cold, sinister grin spreading across his face. "Let's see how that punk survives this!"

And Hank Chu and Ken Feng too—I've been itching to mess with them forever. Tonight, old grudges and new, I'll settle them all!

Brandon Yang's eyes burned with hate. Just imagining his brother Brian Yang rolling up with his crew—he could already see them beating those guys so bad their parents wouldn't even recognize them.

You sure about this? He seems seriously tough..." Yvonne Xie said, sounding unsure.

Why wouldn't it work? Last time I just got cocky! If my leg wasn't busted, I'd kick his ass right now!" Brandon Yang scoffed, totally convinced he only lost because he let his guard down.

Brian Yang's a whole different beast—he's a famous thug in Whitewood County, never goes to school, just hangs out in internet cafés, KTVs, and nightclubs all day. He's beaten up tons of people over the years, totally wild.

Brandon Yang had absolute faith in his big brother.

Ivy Deng watched Brandon Yang and Yvonne Xie walk off, her gaze at Evan Lin growing more and more curious.

She glanced at Evan Lin, asking casually, "Did you know Brandon Yang before?"

Nope." Evan Lin shook his head, quick and firm.

Then why does he look so freaked out by you?" Ivy Deng stared at Evan Lin, searching his face for clues.
