Good News and Bad News
For the sake of the Celestial Essence Pill, Maya Summers had everything go her way.
After surveying the area, Maya Summers grabbed her and climbed onto the roof from behind.
Since the roof was shaped like an 'A', the front part could easily be spotted. So they hid on the back roof, right above the bedroom.
This spot was exactly the same place Grace picked last time she came alone.
They lifted a tile and peeked down—the view was pretty good.
This time, they waited a long while but the main character never showed up.
Just as the two were about to call it a day and come back another time, something finally happened below.
They vaguely heard a maid say, "The prince has arrived."
Maya Summers was instantly stunned—why was it the prince again?
Could it be Prince Cheng showing up again?
From where they were hiding, they couldn’t see the outer room.
Luckily, it was already late, so everyone soon moved into the inner chamber.
By candlelight, Maya Summers immediately spotted Prince Cheng and Diana Su entering the room one after the other.
"Your Highness, why did you come so late tonight? I waited so long for you, it was exhausting!" Diana Su’s voice was sticky-sweet, definitely not the way you’d talk to your husband’s best friend.
"Official business kept me busy today," Prince Cheng replied while undressing.
Undressing... That’s really not something you do in front of your ‘sister-in-law.’
Maya Summers stared at them without blinking.
"What kind of official business?" Diana Su asked.
"In half a month, it’s the Empress Dowager’s birthday banquet. As usual, envoys from all the Vermilion Kingdom’s vassal states will come to celebrate. The emperor called us into the palace to discuss the arrangements."
"Oh!" Diana Su scooted onto Prince Cheng’s lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and said, "Your Highness, I have good news and bad news today. Which one do you want to hear first?"
Prince Cheng grinned as he started undressing her. "Whatever news you have, serve me first!"
Seeing this, Grace glanced at Maya Summers’ expression.
It was dark, so she couldn’t see clearly, but she did notice Maya biting her lip hard.
She looked like she was about to explode… Grace squeezed her hand and shook her head at her.
Maya Summers didn’t move.
At that moment, Diana Su wriggled away, stopping him from undressing her any further. "No! Your Highness, you have to hear my news first today."
Prince Cheng: "Fine, fine, let’s hear it!"
"Which do you want first, the good news or the bad news?"
"Hmm… let’s hear the bad news first!"
"The bad news is, I threw up today! It was awful!" Diana Su really was a beauty—even when she complained, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.
"What happened? Did you eat something bad?" Prince Cheng asked with concern.
"That’s the good news!" Diana Su’s tone changed, turning sweet again. "The doctor says I’m pregnant!"
"Pregnant?" Prince Cheng was stunned.
Maya Summers saw his expression and couldn’t help but think, he must just be playing around with this woman—there’s no real feelings. Otherwise, wouldn’t he react differently to her pregnancy?
"Your Highness, you’re going to be a dad—aren’t you happy?" Diana Su looked hurt.
"Of course I’m happy," Prince Cheng said. "But just thinking about our child being raised outside makes me feel awful."
"If the child is raised here, with my status... it would ruin me." Diana Su said. "Can you adopt him back to your home?"
Prince Cheng said nothing.
"Are you worried Princess Maya Summers won’t agree?"
"Generally speaking, she wouldn’t agree," Prince Cheng said. "What woman would want to raise someone else’s child? It’s not like she can’t have her own."
