One on One, You Are Still No Match

2/14/2026

Serena Feng was no Ghost King—she didn’t have the speed or skill to dodge bullets. As the bullet shot toward her, her first thought was: that’s it, I’m done for. Dying at the hands of a bullet she herself had fired—just thinking about it was mortifying…

But she refused to accept that!

She’d finally turned her luck around, everything was going smoothly, and she and Ninth Royal Uncle had another child on the way. If she died before her baby was even born, she wouldn’t rest in peace—not even as a ghost.

“Screw it!” Serena Feng stepped back, gripped the gun with both hands, aimed at the incoming bullet, and pulled the trigger without hesitation, firing a shot.

It felt like ages passed, but in reality, from the moment she made her decision to the moment she fired, it was only a split second. The shadow guards hadn’t even reached Serena yet—they just saw her raise her gun and shoot…

Whizz—her bullet left the barrel, matching the Ghost King’s bullet for speed. Serena’s eyes widened, watching. The shadow guards had no idea what she was doing, but they were determined to shield her. Still, they knew with the speed of those ‘projectiles,’ they might not be able to block them. But then—a miracle happened…

Clang! The two ‘projectiles’ collided mid-air, a spark flashing out. A second later, both fell to the ground at the same time—and just then, the shadow guards stepped in front of Serena.

“Safe!” Serena’s nerves instantly relaxed. She wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and let out a long breath—she’d been scared to death, thinking she’d die at the Ghost King’s hands.

Now Serena was absolutely certain: the Ghost King was her nemesis. Last time at Destiny Cliff, she’d barely escaped death at his hands.

And now—even after hiding out on this tiny island, she still ran into the Ghost King. What rotten luck! And the worst part? Both times she was pregnant.

The Ghost King must have a grudge against her children!

"Your Grace, we need to go—now." With the crisis over, the shadow guards immediately stepped forward, escorting Serena away.

As long as they got on the ship and sailed away, even the Ghost King—with all his tricks—couldn’t catch up.

Out on the vast sea, with nowhere to stand or rest, unless the Ghost King was some kind of immortal, he’d never dare jump into the water…

"Alright." Even with the AK-47 assault rifle in her hands, Serena didn’t dare act tough. In two years, the Ghost King’s martial arts had improved—gun or not, she might not be his match.

Protected by the shadow guards, Serena handed the gun over to them. With their cover, she ran toward the big ship at the shore—but the Ghost King wasn’t about to let her escape.

"Trying to leave? Not so easy." The Ghost King kicked his leg, sending sand and stones flying. The shadow guards scrambled to respond, and the Ghost King took the chance to break away, leaping past them to chase Serena.

"Damn, the Ghost King’s after us!" The shadow guards were alarmed. Two of them took Serena and ran, while the others stayed behind to block pursuit: "You get Her Grace out of here and send a signal to the master—he’ll be here in a quarter of an hour, tops."

Earlier, they’d tried to signal the Emperor, but the Ghost King destroyed it before they could. Now they had only one flare left—they had to get far enough from the Ghost King to use it, no more wasting chances.

"Understood." The shadow guards didn’t dare hesitate. Once they confirmed Serena could handle it physically, they took her and ran.

Once they’d put some distance between themselves and the Ghost King, the shadow guards immediately fired a signal flare to Prince Nolan, hoping he’d see it and send help as soon as possible—the Ghost King was just too strong, and they couldn’t hold out for long.

With the shadow guards blocking him and more coming up from behind, the Ghost King could only watch as Serena drew closer and closer to the ship.

"Damn it!" The Ghost King was furious, a savage glint flashing across his delicate features—so out of place on that face.

"Block my way, and you deserve to die!" The Ghost King pulled out an iron claw from his belt and strapped it onto his left hand…

Crunch—one swipe of the iron claw, and a shadow guard’s neck snapped. Bright red blood dripped down the claw as the Ghost King stuck out his tongue for a taste: "It’s been ages since I drank blood fresh—delicious as ever."

A chill ran through the shadow guards, but not one showed fear. They carefully dodged the Ghost King’s iron claw—but if it were easy to avoid, he wouldn’t bother bringing it out.

The Ghost King wielded the iron claw like it was part of his own body—so agile and deadly. In the time it took for one stick of incense to burn, every shadow guard was injured, and just hearing that crunch made their scalps tingle.

The Ghost King had no intention of wasting time on the shadow guards. He knew exactly how long it took to get from Ghost Hall to this little island. If Prince Nolan got the signal, he’d rush here immediately—by then, the Ghost King would lose his chance.

If he couldn’t catch Serena, then he’d take Nolan Dongling’s life!

The Ghost King quickly broke through the shadow guards’ blockade. They thought he’d go after Serena, but instead, he ran in the opposite direction—leaving the guards baffled.

"What’s going on?" The shadow guards exchanged looks, asking each other, but no one understood what the Ghost King was up to.

"Could he be afraid of us?"

"Dream on. We’re no match for him."

"Then maybe he’s afraid of the master."

"You’re overthinking it—the master’s attacking Ghost Hall right now. Even if he gets the signal, he can’t break away that fast." The shadow guards were at a loss, so when they saw the Ghost King running the other way, they didn’t dare chase him—instead, they went to find Serena.

No matter what, they had to make sure Her Grace and the Young Mistress were safe. If anything happened to them, no amount of lives could make up for it.

"Where’s the Ghost King?" The shadow guards were covered in blood, wounded all over, but Serena had no time to deal with their injuries.

"He ran north." One of the shadow guards pointed, urgently: "Your Grace, we need to go."

"Did you drive him off, or hurt him?" Serena had a bad feeling—the Ghost King had just threatened to catch her, so why would he suddenly give up when he was about to succeed?

With the Ghost King’s martial arts, catching her shouldn’t have been hard at all.

"Neither. The Ghost King killed a few of our brothers, then ran north himself." The shadow guards were just as confused, but now was not the time to worry about that—escaping was the priority.

"Your Grace, let’s go." The shadow guards, afraid the Ghost King would catch up, urged Serena onto the ship. But Serena refused: "The Ghost King came here out of nowhere—there’s something wrong with this island. We’re going after him."

"Your Grace, it’s dangerous!" The shadow guards stood firmly in front of Serena.

"If we don’t go, the Emperor will be in danger. Think about it—why did the Ghost King come to this island? Don’t tell me he found out I was here and came just to take me hostage. If he really wanted to catch me, he wouldn’t have changed his mind right after we fired the signal to notify the Emperor."

Serena didn’t know what the Ghost King was planning, but her instincts told her he’d come to this island because of Prince Nolan—running into her was just a coincidence.

Whatever the Ghost King was up to, she had to stop him!
