Farewell to the World

After riding the Log Flume, Sam Shang took Sherry Yuan to play several other attractions that looked incredibly childish.

At first, Sherry Yuan was pretty reluctant, feeling a bit embarrassed.

How old am I now, and I’m still playing this stuff?

But after a while... it was actually kind of fun!

After going through all those activities, any reluctance Sherry Yuan had was long gone.

Once her heart settled down, it was finally time for a proper conversation.

"Sherry, there's somewhere else I want to take you next." Sam Shang smiled at her. "But let me say this first: no turning around and leaving, and no getting mad."

"Okay." Sherry Yuan's eyes flickered, as if she already guessed what was coming.

Sam Shang called for the RV.

The vehicle started up and headed toward the outskirts of the city.

It seemed like they were heading out for a long trip.

Inside the RV, Sam Shang put on an apron and skillfully chopped tomatoes and cracked eggs, personally making a simple egg fried rice for her.

I'm really sorry, I practiced for three days and this is the best I could do.' Sam Shang said a bit awkwardly, 'I can't promise to cook for you every day—it’s not realistic. But I can promise I'll try to have dinner with you every night.

Sherry Yuan felt a warmth in her heart.

She knew better than anyone what it meant for Sam Shang to cook a meal.

For a nobleman to roll up his sleeves and cook, that in itself was a rare thing.

What mattered wasn’t the meal, but the sentiment behind it.

It was no small feat for Sam Shang to do this for her.

If you have something to say, just say it.' Sherry Yuan spoke up. 'I'm not a child, you don't need to coax me.

I'm here to apologize to you, or maybe apologize on behalf of my grandmother.' Sam Shang sat down across from Sherry Yuan, pushing the egg fried rice toward her. 'My grandmother went behind my back to meet with Andrew Yu’s mother and told her all about your background.

Sherry Yuan gave a bitter smile.

I guessed as much,' Sherry Yuan said calmly. 'Actually, I already told Andrew Yu about my past. My past is real—it can't be erased. If they can't accept it, that's normal.

Sherry, do you like Andrew Yu? Even just a little?' Sam Shang summoned his courage to look at Sherry Yuan, though his eyes couldn't hide the sadness. 'If you really like him, then I'm willing to give up for you. I want you to be happy.

Sherry Yuan looked at him in surprise.

Don't look at me like that, I'll regret what I just said.' Sam Shang said sadly. 'I'm not a good person, not that selfless. I just don't want to be the reason you're unhappy.

Thank you, but it's not necessary,' Sherry Yuan said softly. 'I don't have any extra feelings for Andrew Yu. In fact, you should know, I don't have special feelings for anyone except Cherry Miller—she's different from everyone else.

Sam Shang nodded.

Sherry Yuan had a mysterious trust in Cherry Miller.

Cherry Miller was like a lighthouse for Sherry Yuan—a beacon that could guide her even from thousands of miles away.

Andrew Yu withdrew on his own, and honestly, I'm relieved. Otherwise, rejecting him would have been quite a hassle.' Sherry Yuan rarely smiled, but now her smile was open and clear, without any sadness or regret.

Clearly, that's how she felt.

He and I, we're just not from the same world,' Sherry Yuan said quietly. 'You and I may not be from the same world either, but our worlds are close—they overlap. But his world and mine are two parallel lines that will never cross. Cherry Miller is right—we've both benefited from Madam Yin, and we owe her for life. That means Andrew Yu and I will always be from different worlds.

Sam Shang said, "Our worlds are together now. Your past is behind you. Now, you’re one of Brother Nina’s people, one of Cherry’s team. Our worlds are the same. Are you really going to keep being an assassin?"

Sherry Yuan smiled, but didn’t give a definite answer.

Sherry, I’m serious about you. Everything I’ve done is for our future.' Sam Shang clasped his hands together on the table, speaking with utmost sincerity. 'I want to know, how do you feel about me? If you don’t have feelings for anyone else, why not give me a chance?

I haven’t decided yet.' Sherry Yuan’s gaze drifted. 'Let me think about it.

Okay, I’ll give you time to think.' Sam Shang looked out at the passing night, speaking softly. 'I have plenty of time to wait for your answer.

After dinner, Sherry Yuan lay down in the RV’s guest room, listening to the faint sounds outside and the hum of the engine, slowly drifting into sleep.

In her dream, she saw herself at seven years old.

She stood outside the bedroom door, listening to her mother’s sharp cries from inside.
