Morgan Shangguan's eyes flashed with mischief as she said, "She was taken away by her fiancé!"
"What?" Quentin Hua jumped up. "How could such a young child have a fiancé?"
Morgan Shangguan raised her brows. "Why can't a child have a fiancé? She'll grow up eventually, won't she? If you see someone good, you have to secure them early! Betrothals at a young age are hardly uncommon!"
Quentin Hua's face darkened, and he snorted coldly. "What kind of parents are those?" he muttered. "A child that young knows nothing, yet her parents have already sold her off!" Quentin Hua was furious over what he saw as an injustice.
Not far away, Maxwell Jing, who had been quietly waiting, felt like he was about to suffocate. Earlier, seeing Minister Magnus Shangguan's ever-changing expression, he'd struggled to hold back his laughter. Now, watching Quentin Hua—this mischievous scoundrel—being played for a fool and looking so indignant, he could barely contain himself.
Ethan Gu glanced at him, and with a flash of silver, stabbed forward. Maxwell Jing shuddered, tears welling up in his eyes as he looked at Ethan Gu with grievance. His laughter stopped, but... it hurt!
Quentin Hua, in a foul mood, didn’t want to stay any longer. After a few words, he left, not even bothering to greet Ethan Gu or Maxwell Jing.
Watching Quentin Hua leave, Damien Gray chuckled. "If you scare Quentin Hua away, how will you explain it to Roxy?"
Morgan Shangguan awkwardly rubbed her nose. "Roxy will definitely bring him back!" she said. Honestly, she hadn’t expected Quentin Hua to react so strongly.
Well, she had to admit, her own child’s charm far surpassed hers. She’d lived for more than twenty years, traveled through time, and only met someone once! And it wasn’t even that she’d lured him in—it was she who ended up being swept away!
She'd forgotten that even as a child, she'd already captivated Jin Locke's heart, though she never gave it a second thought. Aside from Damien Gray, she ignored all other suitors, not realizing she was far more alluring than she believed.
Having been ignored for so long, Jin Locke's expression soured. At last, he spoke: "Fiona Yun, I want to talk to you!" He needed to confirm the suspicions in his heart.
Morgan Shangguan gave him a glance and replied coolly, "Speak."
Jin Locke stared at her blankly. This was the Fiona Yun he knew—calm and distant, her true feelings hidden beneath the surface. Sometimes, her detachment seemed almost cruel, for no matter how hard one tried, it was impossible to reach her heart.
Damien Gray narrowed his eyes. Morgan Shangguan could ignore that sort of gaze, but he couldn't. He knew she was still angry about his injury last time, so he let her vent first; otherwise, he'd never have held back from attacking Jin Locke. Just the fact that Jin Locke once hurt Morgan Shangguan was reason enough for him to want to kill him several times over!
Morgan Shangguan glanced at the icy-faced man, her lips curving into a faint smile as she teased, "You get jealous over things like this too?"
Damien Gray bent down and gave her lips a playful nibble. "Isn’t it you, my Princess Consort, who makes me jealous?" he retorted.
"Did I?" Morgan Shangguan looked innocent. Surely this wasn’t her fault?
Seeing that the two had forgotten his presence again, Jin Locke said with a grim face, "Could the Ghost King please step aside?"
Damien Gray raised his brows, smiling. "Is there anything I can't hear?" His gaze at Jin Locke was openly murderous. Under that stare, Jin Locke tensed and looked at Morgan Shangguan, about to speak—when Damien Gray withdrew his gaze and turned to Morgan Shangguan, sounding a little aggrieved. "Are you abandoning me, Princess Consort?"
Morgan Shangguan was used to his shifting moods, and Damien Gray had long since learned her temperament. Whenever he acted pitiful, she would indulge him to the greatest extent—without fail!
Morgan Shangguan could only sigh at her own soft heart. She reached out and patted his head, as if soothing a stray dog. Meeting Damien Gray’s smiling eyes, she suddenly withdrew her hand, coughed lightly, and said, "Just say what you need to say—there’s nothing you can’t hear!" She glanced at Damien Gray, frowning. What was this sly fox plotting now? Still, she had to admit, when Damien Gray schemed against others, his cunning was oddly attractive—provided, of course, she wasn’t the target!
Jin Locke frowned deeply. Seeing Morgan Shangguan’s insistence, he had no choice but to ask: "Was the person who saved me back then... was it you?" After Morgan Shangguan saved him, she’d set up an illusion array. Later, he realized it differed from the traditional Shangguan family formations. He’d once asked Susie Yun about it, but she said she couldn’t remember something from so many years ago. Yet, during the treasure hunt, he saw Morgan Shangguan use that same illusion array, which led him to suspect he’d mistaken her identity all along.
But if he’d mistaken her identity, why had Fiona Yun never said anything?
"Yes!" The answer was crisp—but it didn’t come from Morgan Shangguan. It was Damien Gray who spoke.
Morgan Shangguan raised her brows. "No prize for the right answer!" she quipped, once again certain that Damien Gray was planning something. She could already guess a bit of what he had in mind.
Damien Gray gazed at her, smiling gently. "Why not give me a little reward, Princess Consort?"
Though he’d suspected it and only wanted confirmation, hearing such a definite answer and realizing he’d been wrong all along, Jin Locke found it hard to accept. His gaze fell on Morgan Shangguan, and seeing she didn’t object, he opened his mouth and asked, "Did you always know why I was with Susie Yun?"
Back then, when he sought revenge, Morgan Shangguan hadn’t been the least bit surprised. She knew everything, so she must have known why he was with Susie Yun. Of course! As the head of the Shangguan family, what could she not know?
Now, it seemed as if everything was suddenly clear to him—and yet, even more confusing. He stared at Morgan Shangguan, waiting for her answer, wanting to hear it from her own lips.
Guessing Damien Gray’s intentions, Morgan Shangguan simply went along with him and answered coolly, "I knew."
Jin Locke’s fists clenched beneath his sleeves as he glared at her, gritting his teeth. "You knew everything, yet you said nothing. You watched me treat Susie Yun as if she were you, even wanted to kill you to avenge her, and you never said a word. Why?"
