Chapter 1228
A voice sounded at the gate of the Merlin Family estate. A young man, shrouded in heavy water vapor, walked over. Charlotte was instantly alarmed—he hadn’t sensed this person’s presence at all.
A Sky Rank mage—another Sky Rank! Damn, this one’s robe even bears the Henry Family crest. Ha! This must be someone from the Henry Family wronged by Master Leon Merlin, and now they’ve sent two Sky Ranks for revenge!
Perfect, the family’s crisis might finally be over. If we can connect with the Henry Family, even a little cooperation would instantly solve our financial woes. We could become the most powerful force in the Andalusia Kingdom.
Arno entered the Merlin Estate Gate with a smile. In the sky, Morgan landed with a wry grin. The dark magical beast whose head had been half-blasted was now fully restored and stowed away by Morgan.
As soon as he entered the Merlin Estate Gate, Morgan called out in frustration.
“Master Leon, your way of welcoming guests is certainly unique. Only someone like me could survive such enthusiasm—anyone else would’ve been toast…”
Arno stood nearby, smiling and shaking his head.
“Morgan, you idiot, I’ve told you a hundred times—keep your aura in check! And that brainless, reckless dark magical beast of yours, can’t you control it even a little?
Seriously, if you pass through some powerful mage’s territory, you might get killed—and drag me down with you…”
“Says who? I’m just excited, alright? It’s been ages since I’ve seen Master Leon—I miss him so much it’s like a flooding river, nothing can hold me back. Arno, you wouldn’t understand. This is what real feelings look like.”
“Real feelings, my ass. You’re just brainless.”
Morgan and Arno bickered their way into the Merlin Family estate, oblivious to the gawking crowd. People stared as the two approached and warmly hugged Lin Yun, as if that earlier attack—strong enough to rival an eighth-rank spell—was just their special way of saying hello…
Outside the Merlin Estate Gate, Charlotte was dumbfounded, cold sweat pouring down his face, his smile frozen.
Damn it, two Sky Ranks from the Henry Family—two!
And they both came in person to congratulate Master Leon Merlin? And their relationship seems really close… Damn it, whose idiot report was this? I’ll kill him. No, I’ll kill them all!
Six Sky Ranks. Six! And three major powers from the Odin Kingdom, all sent their top mages to personally congratulate Master Leon Merlin.
The old patriarch, that senile fool, actually tried to provoke a monster like this…
“Hahaha, Master Leon, I’m late! Sorry about that. You wouldn’t mind an old man dropping by uninvited on such a big day, would you?”
With a hearty laugh, a sharp figure landed at the Merlin Estate Gate, then strode in, still chuckling.
Outside the grand gate, Charlotte’s vision went black—he nearly fainted.
The Sky Sword Saint! Damn it, even the Sky Rank Sword Saint himself has come in person!
Damn it, can someone please tell me what the hell is going on here? Thank the heavens I was wise enough to come congratulate Archmage Leon myself. Good thing I showed up...
Right, I’d better hurry in and bow my head—no shame in that. As long as Archmage Leon doesn’t have it out for our Charlotte Family, I’ll count myself lucky. I have no desire to end up like that foolish old patriarch, not even knowing how he died. I won’t be the sinner of the Charlotte Family...
Charlotte glanced at the gifts he’d prepared, gritted his teeth, then fished out several rare materials from his private stash—treasures nearly extinct in Nordrende. He tucked them into the tribute box and strode through the Merlin Estate Gate.
After handing his gifts to the designated attendant, Charlotte ignored the stares around him. He put on his most enthusiastic smile and offered congratulations from a safe distance—he was sensible enough not to approach the inner circle of Sky Rank powerhouses. That crowd was strictly off-limits...
Charlotte sat down at a table with Seth. Seth watched the anxious, sweating Charlotte and couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia.
Back in the day, I was just like this Charlotte—recklessly provoking Archmage Leon. But this Charlotte’s luck is even worse; he inherited a mess, plain and simple. If not for that, he’d never have become patriarch.
Archmage Leon is truly a good man. As long as you don’t go looking for trouble, he’ll never make trouble for you. And if you’re a friend, he’ll always offer the best help he can.
If it weren’t for Archmage Leon, I’d probably be a cripple by now. But now, I’ve reached the peak of Ninth Rank Title Archmage, and there’s a real chance I’ll break through to Sky Rank.
Here’s hoping this new Charlotte has a bit of sense.
Seth patted Charlotte on the shoulder and gave him an encouraging look, leaving Charlotte so nervous he couldn’t figure out what it all meant for half the day.
The banquet was underway. All the Sky Rank powerhouses gathered in the innermost hall, and Leon kept them company, barely sparing a glance for those outside. Not a soul dared voice any dissatisfaction—who would, when a crowd of Sky Rank masters had come to honor the new Merlin Patriarch in person?
Besides, wasn’t Patriarch Hoffland still there to keep them company...
Once the banquet ended, Leon officially took charge of the Merlin Family. He’d promised Hoffland to make the Merlin Family the strongest mage force in the Kingdom of Andalusia—and he intended to deliver.
Leon recalled the Mage Legion, assigning them as instructors within the Merlin Family Academy to train the younger generation. Many of his alchemists were also reassigned, joining the Merlin Family Alchemy Workshop to cultivate new alchemists.

The Merlin Family had plenty of alchemy apprentices, but few advanced to become formal alchemists. It wasn’t just a shortage of instructors—those hired from the Alchemist Guild always kept a few crucial secrets to themselves, teaching only the basics.
Leon’s own alchemy shops sent instructors to teach potion-making, and he even brought in Krovitz to personally lead the Merlin Family’s study of alchemical golems.
Some were even studying magical artifacts and alchemical arrays...
