Chapter 356: Fusion

"No time, I want to sleep!" Lord Shaun began to struggle, transforming into a mass of black smoke, darting back and forth within the small cage formed by fiery rays, searching for a way to escape.

But how could a cage crafted personally by Leon be so easy to break? Lord Shaun searched for several minutes, going back and forth, but found no opening. In the end, he simply gave up, reverted to his ghostly wolf form, and lazily flopped down, pretending to be dead...

"Heh, just say it..." Of course, Leon knew exactly what kind of character this guy was. He wasn't angry—he simply extended a hand: "Where's the Eye of the Evil Dragon?"

That simple question nearly made Lord Shaun jump up. He stared nervously at Leon for a long time, then, as if realizing he'd lost composure, hurriedly flopped back down and resumed his dead act. But this time, when he spoke, his tone was much less natural...

"Wh-what Eye of the Evil Dragon? I have no idea what you're talking about!"

"Drop the act. Herman has an Essence Relic called the Eye of the Evil Dragon, forged from the eye of an Abyssal Evil Dragon from the Sungold Plane. He brags about it three or four times a day—every kid in Auckland knows about it. You really think you can hide it?"

"Uh..."

"Uh what? Hurry up and hand it over..."

Lord Shaun blinked several times before stammering out, "I can't hand it over anymore..."

"Don't joke around..." Leon's voice suddenly rose several degrees.

"I really can't hand it over..." Lord Shaun's voice started to quiver, almost sobbing. "You think I actually want that Eye of the Evil Dragon? The problem is, I really can't give it to you now. What do you expect me to do, conjure another Eye of the Evil Dragon out of thin air?"

"Are you serious?"

"Of course I'm serious..."

"Explain—what happened exactly!" The veins on Leon's forehead bulged. The Eye of the Evil Dragon was an Essence Relic; in this era, calling it priceless was no exaggeration. It was equivalent to the power of a Title Archmage.

Don’t be fooled by how Leon casually throws around tens of millions of gold coins...

At the end of the day, that’s just for buying magical materials.

If you actually wanted to buy an Essence Relic, tens of millions would never be enough. In this era, a single Soulbound Relic could spark a war between factions. Now an Essence Relic has gone missing—how could Leon not be furious, how could he not be livid?

Under Leon’s intense gaze, Lord Shaun finally spoke, looking utterly dejected...

"I really don’t know. At the time, I just sensed a very strange aura on that guy—maybe from the Abyss, maybe from Hell. In any case, it was an extremely evil presence. I swear to the heavens, I was just a little curious..."

"You were really just curious?"

"I swear to the heavens!" Lord Shaun declared earnestly, then couldn't help bragging a bit: "Lord Shaun is an Essence Relic, after all, not some country bumpkin—why would I covet your little trinkets...?"

...Leon’s forehead throbbed, veins twitching. Damn it, an Essence Relic called a 'little trinket'? If only he could get his hands on such 'trinkets' a few more times...

"Anyway, I just felt the aura was familiar. You know Lord Shaun is always diligent about research—when I find something interesting, of course I have to study it. So, I tore open the guy’s soul and traced the source of the aura..."

Leon couldn't help but glance at Herman with a shred of sympathy.

That Title Archmage really was down on his luck...

Of all the rotten luck, he ended up in Lord Shaun’s hands.

Just listen to that...

Tearing open the guy’s soul...

Anyone with even a passing knowledge of soul magic knows just how bloody and cruel that is. Imagine it—a soul ripped apart, more brutal than any torture. No wonder Herman was half-dead on the ground when Leon returned. All Lord Shaun’s doing...

"Then I found a huge eyeball embedded in his chest. It was strange—looked like it had been alchemically treated and fixed right there. I tried to dig it out, but failed. That guy bled a lot, and I broke a few bones in the process..."

Leon took a deep breath, feeling numb. "Go on..."

But I just couldn’t let it go. You know Lord Shaun—always persistent in research..." Shaun’s face thickened as he spoke. "So I thought of a way: I found the connection point between the eyeball and his soul. Believe it or not, I actually found it in less than ten minutes. After that, it was easy—I tore the soul link apart, and the eyeball instantly detached from his chest..."

"You really are..."

"Really clever, right? Heh, I think so too. But here’s the weird part—once it came off, the eyeball turned straight to ash. The wind blew, and it scattered everywhere. Now it’s truly gone..."

"Turned to ash?"

"Yeah, turned to ash..."

"Nonsense!" Leon couldn’t believe it. The eyeball Shaun described was clearly the legendary Essence Relic, the Eye of the Evil Dragon—a Title Archmage-level artifact. There’s no way it would just turn to ash. What kind of joke is that...

"I’m really not lying—it really did turn to ash..."

"Impossible!"

"I'm telling the truth. If you don't believe me, look for yourself—see if you can find it..."

Leon eyed Lord Shaun suspiciously...

He stared for a full ten minutes.

But in the end, Leon could only sigh. The two of them shared a master-servant contract—a mental link, one of the closest bonds in existence. If Lord Shaun were lying, Leon would know instantly...

Yet now, Leon truly couldn’t sense any deception from Lord Shaun...

Which meant Lord Shaun was probably telling the truth—the Essence Relic, Eye of the Evil Dragon, had really turned to ash and vanished...

Wait a minute...

Just as Leon was sinking into despair, he suddenly sensed something was off...

On Lord Shaun’s forehead, a faint light seemed to flicker...

"What’s going on?" Leon stared at Lord Shaun, his expression growing increasingly serious. "Don’t tell me..."

"Hey, why are you staring at me like that..." Lord Shaun felt uneasy under Leon’s gaze, his voice trembling slightly...

"Come here."

"No way!" Lord Shaun was already nervous, and at Leon’s command, he shrank back in fear...

"Enough nonsense!" Leon wasn’t in the mood to argue. He reached through the cage of fiery rays and grabbed Lord Shaun in one swift motion...

"Let me go! Damn it, let me go! You pervert, what are you trying to do..."

"Hold still!" Leon snapped, cursing impatiently as he stopped Lord Shaun from squirming, then focused on that faint glimmer...

Now Leon could see it clearly...

There really was a faint light flickering on Lord Shaun’s forehead—so subtle you’d miss it if you weren’t paying close attention...

And the shape of that little glimmer was extremely peculiar...
