Negotiation Part 3

12/15/2025

The night sea wind howled through this coastal village, its mournful wails echoing like the cries of lost souls. On the top floor of a two-story house, Entity 001 and Agent Seven were feasting on the steaming seafood I had just brought back. I gripped a bottle of liquor, sitting at the edge of the rooftop, quietly gazing out at the distant, shadowy sea.

Behind me, Heavenly Soul held a strand of hair, his gaze sharp and intent, scrutinizing it as if divining hidden truths from the supernatural currents swirling in the air.

"It's definitely Ethan Zhang's. Just where did that bastard Xu Fu get it from?"

I shook my head. For some reason, I was in a pretty good mood tonight, gulping down the liquor as the chill in the air brushed my skin.

"Is there any way to locate the place?"

Heavenly Soul nodded, then slowly drifted into the air, raising one hand. The strand of hair faded away, enveloped by swirling white currents—ethereal energies that shimmered with supernatural force. Above, ghostly white vines sprouted in the night sky, twisting and spreading rapidly in every direction, like spectral tendrils searching for something lost.

With a low, buzzing hum, those spectral vines suddenly recoiled. Heavenly Soul opened his eyes and tried again, but each time the white vines stretched outward, they would inevitably snap back, retreating into the night—again and again, as if repelled by some unseen, malevolent force.

"What in the world is happening?" I asked, unable to hide the tension in my voice.

I asked, my voice low. Heavenly Soul landed back on the rooftop, his expression grave as he stared into the distance. At that moment, Agent Seven approached, footsteps echoing softly in the oppressive night, his presence adding another layer of uncertainty to the shadows.

"If we can't use origin tracking, then Ethan Zhang may no longer exist in any corner of either the Yin or Yang realms—including what you mentioned before: the Yin-side world, the Yang-side world, and even the darkness that shrouds them, a void where even spirits lose their way."

Heavenly Soul nodded.

"Indeed, I can sense it's in a distant place, but my power can't reach it or extend that far. It seems Xu Fu's words were half true, half false—they probably can't get to it easily either!"

I sneered and stood up.

"That guy will definitely send someone over. Contact the Ghost Burial Squad for me and have them bring people to take away the Immortality Society's corpses."

As I spoke, Agent Seven nodded. By now, Agent One had finished eating. She ran over with a cheerful smile, grabbing my arm.

"Let's go shopping together tomorrow. I need to buy some furniture—otherwise, this place is just too bleak."

I looked at her and then laughed.

"Alright!"

Late at night, Agent One had gone downstairs to sleep. After tidying up, Agent Seven came upstairs.

"I really envy beings like you—you don't need to sleep."

I smiled and shook my head.

"I'm no different, really. It's been ages since I've tried to sleep. The feeling of being unable to rest is unbearable."

Heavenly Soul had already found a spot alone, seemingly intending to keep trying to locate where Ethan Zhang actually was.

"What did Winter say?"

I asked. Agent Seven nodded and replied.

"He said he'd come over once he finished handling things at home. After all, he can stand up now, and his strength is starting to show. What do you plan to do? The Immortality Society won't give up on that thing you have."

I grunted in acknowledgment, fully understanding what Agent Seven meant. Even if the Immortality Society didn't want to start trouble, they'd do whatever it took to get the Blood Jade from me.

"Be careful when you go out tomorrow."

I responded with a sound, then finished the last bit of liquor in the bottle and floated up.

"Go get some rest. I want to go somewhere."

"You're planning to go back to where you used to live, aren't you?"

Agent Seven asked, adjusting his glasses.

"You're pretty sharp."

With a thunderous roar, I transformed into a streak of black lightning, instantly tearing through the sky and flying south toward City H. In just a few minutes, I landed on a street, and ahead, up a slope, was the apartment building where Ethan Zhang used to live.

The apartment building was already abandoned—the residents had long since moved out, and there was hardly anyone around. It used to be lively here, but after those haunting incidents, and under the influence of Ethan Zhang's own power, no one remained. I slowly landed at the door of Room 410; this was where everything began.

I smiled faintly, recalling that Yin Choujian's behavior back then was rather unpleasant. With a wave of my hand, the door opened. Everything inside was just as it had been, though everything outside had changed.

I sat on the bed, quietly observing everything around me. It was cold and desolate. This place had once served as a home for both humans and ghosts, but all that was gone. Ethan Zhang's ideal of coexistence between humans and ghosts was never possible—in the end, it was nothing more than a beautiful illusion.

"What's wrong, you all? If you want to come out, then come out."

I muttered. With a whoosh, eight Ghost Souls flew out of my body. Deathbane Ghost stared at me silently.

"What do you plan to do?"

I leaned back, then shook my head.

"I don't know what to do either. The Immortality Society has all the intel—there's so little we actually know. The key thing is, I have no idea where Yin Choujian went, and there's no one to discuss this with."

The other Ghost Souls flew off in all directions. For some reason, there was a strange aura in the city now. I couldn't figure out what it was, but I felt it as soon as I entered. The Ghost Souls seemed to sense it too—they scattered, apparently searching for something. I hadn't even ordered them; they'd already taken action on their own.

"What exactly are you all worried about? There aren't many in the living world who could threaten me now."

Deathbane Ghost grunted, but then immediately smiled.

"I think you should just make a deal with them."

In an instant, my eyes widened and I turned to look at him.

"What do you mean?"

"There's no need to cling to that thing. Originally, the Blood Jade was used to seal the Seven Souls of the Wraithlord, but even one missing soul means it's incomplete. Even if the Three Souls of the Wraithlord are combined, resurrection is impossible without all Seven Souls."
