Seeking Treatment

2/14/2026

Serena Feng—such talent. Why did she never show it before?

Not even Terrence Valen could answer that question, and Serena herself had no explanation.

Of course, she had no need to explain herself. If anyone asked, she’d just blame it on Adrian Dongling.

She’d always wanted to live like a proper noblewoman, but fate had other plans. Since things turned out this way, Serena refused to keep suffering in silence.

Removing Evan Zhou’s brand was just a minor operation—barely an hour, with only a little sedation. Serena hung an IV for him and kept watch.

When the IV finished, Evan woke up.

The first thing he did was try to pull open his shirt, only to find there was no need—Serena had already undressed him.

"It’s gone?" Staring at the white dressing on his chest, Evan could hardly believe it.

His lifelong nightmare—gone after a single nap?

"It’s gone. Just be careful these next few days, don’t pull on the wound. And your hand—go see a doctor, it’s red and swollen. You don’t want it ruined. Need to use the toilet or want a drink? If you need anything, just tell me—I’ll help if I can."

"It's just a minor wound—it's no trouble. When can I get my household registration sorted? Then I can go out freely. I want to buy a few servants, since there are some things I can't handle myself." Evan asked tentatively.

As soon as Serena left, Evan took off the gauze from his wound. Seeing that the character for 'lowborn' had disappeared, his eyes grew wet.

He’d thought his life was over, never expecting such a chance to come his way.

He’d believed Serena was just trying to keep him calm by promising to remove his brand, but what seemed as impossible as reaching the heavens was, in her eyes, a simple favor.

"No problem. I’ll go to Hsieh Manor first to change Second Madam Hsieh’s dressings, then head to the Capital Prefecture Court. I just did them a huge favor—they’ll give me this courtesy," Serena said easily.

That’s just how things work—everyone helps push the fancy sedan. She’d saved Second Madam Hsieh, and now Serena had decent ties with the Wang and Hsieh families. Even Magistrate Leonard Wei wouldn’t dare make trouble for her.

Evan gave Serena a deep bow. "Thank you..."

Serena raised her hand to stop him. "No need. Don’t thank me—I’m not helping you for gratitude. Evan, I know you have your own story, and I won’t pry. Stay in Feng Manor as long as you want, but there’s one thing: while you’re here, you must never betray me or do anything to harm me."

Once bitten by a snake, you’ll fear even a rope for ten years.

The maid Wendy Wan’s betrayal had wounded Serena deeply, even though Wendy met a tragic end herself.

Evan nodded firmly. "Don’t worry, I’m not the kind of person who repays kindness with treachery."

Serena nodded back, trusting her own judgment—Evan’s eyes were clear and honest, not the sort of person to scheme or steal.

"That’s enough. As for the rest, there’s nothing more to say. If you feel you owe me for removing your brand, just do what Vincent Su did—if you get rich one day, pay me a thousand taels in medical fees."

"Deal," Evan agreed readily, secretly thinking this woman really had her eye on money.

If he could reclaim everything that belonged to him, money wouldn’t be a problem. If he couldn’t, he might as well stay at Feng Manor.

Serena just nodded and went back to her breakfast. As she was nearly finished, Evan suddenly remembered something.

"By the way, while you were sleeping those two days, Vincent Su and Seventh Young Master Caleb Wang both came looking for you. Vincent just stood around and left without saying anything. Caleb Wang asked me to tell you he’s looking for you."

When Evan mentioned Vincent Su and Caleb Wang, he sounded neither respectful nor envious, as if they were just ordinary people.

Noticing this, Serena became even more certain of her hunch—Evan was no simple man. Most people would be nervous or at least a little awed when talking about someone like Caleb Wang.

"Got it. I’m done eating, so I’ll head out. Take care of your wound and buy something nourishing these next few days. It may be a small injury, but it still saps your strength." Serena gave a few instructions before heading to Hsieh Manor.

That Madam Hsieh might just be the key figure in starting her medical career.

Serena was right—Second Madam Hsieh would launch her medical career, though not in surgery, but in gynecology.

She never imagined that, in the future, Eastlyn’s noblewomen would have a saying: for infertility, go to Serena Feng.

Ahem, before she knew it, she’d become a gynecology expert. The very ladies who once looked down on her now scrambled to curry favor, hoping she’d work her magic and restore their health.

After all, even women without infertility usually have some gynecological issues.

These issues are always awkward to discuss with doctors, which made Serena the perfect choice. But the most important thing was, whenever Serena treated someone, the cure was guaranteed.

Ahem, but that’s a story for another time—something Serena never expected, nor would she ever have imagined.

Right now, her main question was: what did Vincent Su want with her?

She puzzled over it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out, so Serena decided not to bother—she had no intention of getting to know Vincent Su anyway.

The last thing she wanted was to get mixed up with Vincent Su or that silver-masked killer—those two spelled trouble.

All she wanted was to practice medicine quietly and make a living.

And as for Caleb Wang?

Serena had a pretty good guess.

Ever since she’d shown her medical skills, he’d gone out of his way to get close—he must want something from her.

He could put on airs or drop his pride as needed.

Caleb Wang really had skill—no wonder he was a true aristocrat.

Unfortunately, Serena didn’t dare agree to anything with Caleb Wang so easily—in fact, she planned to avoid him as much as possible.

If a Wang clan heir was willing to set aside his pride, it had to be for a truly difficult case. With their status, they could hire imperial physicians or famous doctors—if even those couldn’t help, Serena wasn’t about to risk getting involved. One wrong move and she could ruin herself.

She knew her own skills—back in the modern world, she was top-notch in surgery. But here? Without her Med-Pack, she’d be nothing but a butcher with a knife. She could handle trauma, but for other illnesses, she might not have a solution.

Medical resources were limited. Western medicine relied on instruments and equipment, but her Med-Pack only had so much.

Still, Serena knew Caleb Wang—Wang Jinhan—wouldn’t let her go so easily.

Trouble, for sure!

But this trouble was all her own doing.

Serena gave a bitter laugh...

Lost in thought, she arrived at Hsieh Manor.

At the same time, Caleb Wang received word that Serena was headed to Hsieh Manor.

Without a word, Caleb Wang ordered a carriage and personally rushed to wait for Serena at the manor gate.
