A Gift for You

Ye Nanfeng was so startled that the snack jar in his hand slipped, but someone moved swiftly and caught it.

"Whoa, that was close! Almost missed it," Gu Yu said, hugging the jar and looking at Ye Nanfeng.

Ye Nanfeng's face flushed red in an instant!

Why was he so unlucky? Every time he made a fool of himself, this little girl was there to see it!

If Ye Nanfeng knew that earlier this morning, when he groggily went to the latrine without closing the door, Gu Yu had witnessed it all, he’d probably die of embarrassment!

"Good morning, Lord Ye," Gu Yu said, placing the jar on the table. "Lord Ye, are you hungry?"

Ye Nanfeng gave a little snort, quickly putting on a serious face and shaking his head. "No, I just came to get something."

But as soon as Ye Nanfeng finished speaking, his stomach betrayed him with a loud—grumble!

The sound was ridiculously loud, like a drum.

Ye Nanfeng could barely keep a straight face.

April watched Nathan Ye's face turn red, though he tried to keep a straight face. She giggled and said, "Minister Ye, I brought some pastries. You should eat them. I had a big lunch, so I'll let you have these. I noticed you didn't eat much at noon—you must be hungry."

As she spoke, April placed the small box she brought on the table and took out a plate of pastries.

Nathan Ye stared at the pastries—they looked delicious. He couldn't help but start to drool.

But he was a grown man—how could he eat a young lady's snacks!?

So Nathan Ye put on a serious face and said, "No need, thank you, Miss April. I'm a grown man—I don't eat snacks like these."

"What's wrong with being a grown man? Grown men get hungry too, and need to eat. Besides, Minister Ye, you work so hard for the country and the people—how could we let you go hungry at work?" April smiled sweetly at Nathan Ye, trying to tempt him: "These pastries are really delicious! I begged Bella Bell to make them! Her cooking is amazing—the Queen herself taught her!"

"Bella Bell?" Nathan Ye suddenly realized and was startled. "Wait, you mean... Her Majesty the Queen?"

April paused, then nodded, "Oh, yes, Her Majesty the Queen. But here, let's pretend there's no Queen—Bella Bell is just Bella Bell. Anyway, we're getting off topic. Hurry and eat!"

The pastries were just too tempting—and his stomach was rumbling—so Nathan Ye gave in, sat down, and started eating with gusto.

April watched Nathan Ye eat, her eyes twinkling. She even thoughtfully poured him a cup of water.

Nathan Ye praised the pastries as he ate, saying how delicious they were.

With his mouth full, Nathan Ye's attitude toward April softened considerably.

When he finished eating, April glanced around, then leaned in mysteriously and said, "Minister Ye, I... I have a gift for you..."

"Huh?" Nathan Ye looked at April's pretty face, his mind went blank and he felt his cheeks burning.

Oh my, a young lady wants to give him a gift! Could it be his luck is finally turning? Is romance coming his way!?

No—wait... Is this really happening?

Could it be a young lady doesn't mind his baldness?

April is so pretty and has such status—why would she like him?

Nathan Ye's heart was beating like a drum—nervous and expectant, he looked at April, even stuttering: "A-a gift? For me?"

"That's right! It's just for you." April nodded firmly, then took out the box with the wig, clutching it tightly. She thought, if anyone saw this, it might hurt Nathan Ye's pride—better to give it to him in private.
