Used to Arrogance

Princess Jade Hayes glanced at the people who had followed her. Seeing the shock and disappointment in their eyes, she knew that these folks, accustomed to the splendor of the capital, were utterly disheartened by Anchester—a place so poor and barbaric, it was beyond their wildest imagination.

Everyone had assumed that, at the very least, a city would be clean and presentable. Who could have guessed that this place was only marginally better than the slums of the capital?

Martin Wu stuck out her tongue and muttered, "This place is seriously poor. I thought my hometown was bad enough, but this is even worse. Just look at those ramshackle houses."

Princess Jade Hayes’s expression remained calm, as if she didn’t care at all about the poverty and dilapidation of Anchester.

After disembarking at the wharf, Princess Jade Hayes stood still and looked around, her brows furrowing.

As Queen Lily of Qin arrived, the magistrate of Anchester, Justin Zhao, should have come to greet her. Yet, there was no sign of Justin Zhao anywhere.

"Why isn’t there even a single person here to welcome us?" Martin Wu scratched her head, clearly surprised.

Just as Martin Wu finished speaking, the distant sound of hoofbeats echoed. Everyone turned to see several people galloping toward them on horseback, only stopping once they reached Princess Jade Hayes and her group.

Dust kicked up by the horses blew straight toward them, making Princess Jade Hayes cough. She quickly turned to shield Charles Hayes in her arms, making sure her son didn’t get a face full of dust.

Martin Wu coughed and glared angrily at the riders. "Didn’t you see all these people here? And you still charged in, raising a whole cloud of dust!"

"Heh heh heh, we’re here on orders from Magistrate Zhao to welcome Her Majesty." The leader didn’t dismount, instead brazenly staring at Martin Wu, his gaze rude and insolent.

Princess Jade Hayes turned to look at the men on horseback. Dressed as servants, each was plump and round-faced, their bellies bulging. Though their clothing was styled for servants, it was made from fine silk.

In a place like Anchester, where the common folk were gaunt and ragged, these servants stood out like sore thumbs—impossible to miss.

Their faces wore expressions of arrogance, clearly used to throwing their weight around.

The leader saw a young woman holding a child turn to look at them. The moment he got a clear look at Princess Jade Hayes’s face, he and his companions were utterly dumbstruck!

What a breathtaking beauty—truly a woman who could topple kingdoms. She was stunning beyond words; none of them had ever seen such a rare beauty in their lives.

Princess Jade Hayes was clearly displeased by their lecherous stares. She snapped, "I am Queen Lily of Qin! How dare you not dismount and kneel before me?"

"Q-Queen Lily of Qin!? So the Queen is really that beautiful? No wonder Prince Alexander Hayes is so besotted! Hahaha!" Instead of obeying, the servants remained seated on their horses, exchanging lewd glances and laughing crudely. "Your Majesty, we’re here to fetch you. Magistrate Zhao is waiting—just come with us."

Princess Jade Hayes’s face darkened. Ever since marrying Prince Alexander Hayes and becoming the Princess of Qin, no man had dared flirt with her. Yet these audacious fools openly disrespected her in front of everyone!

Her expression grew even colder, but the servants only laughed louder. "Oh my, the Queen is angry! She’s even prettier when she’s mad!"

"Enough! If you keep staring, I’ll poke your eyes out!" Martin Wu trembled with rage.

The servants leered at Martin Wu and said, "We’ve got eyes just for beauties. Why shouldn’t we look?"
