He Treats Me Well
"Really?" Martin Wu's face was full of obvious disbelief.
Lola grew anxious and said, "It's true! Martin Wu, my martial arts are so strong—who could possibly bully me? My husband and I are deeply in love. How could he bear to hurt me? The marks on my neck are really from my martial arts training. By the way, don't tell anyone, or they'll start making wild guesses."
As she spoke, Lola urgently grabbed Martin Wu's arm. "You mustn't say anything to anyone."
Martin Wu looked at Lola with a complicated expression. Martin wasn't stupid; on the contrary, she was a very intelligent young woman.
Lola was lying, and Martin Wu could see right through her.
Those kinds of marks couldn't possibly be from martial arts practice; they were clearly from someone grabbing her neck—hard!
And that person could only be Neil Zhao!
Martin Wu was furious, and she could guess most of what happened. She figured Lola's secret had been exposed, so that brute Neil Zhao beat her right after their wedding!
Martin Wu didn't care about propriety. She gripped Lola's hand and said, "Lola, you're a Dean, Chancellor Evans' trusted aide, and your martial arts are top-notch. How can you let a man walk all over you and bully you like this!? Neil Zhao doesn't know martial arts—if you wanted, you could take him down ten times over! How could you let him hurt you like this? Why didn’t you fight back? Lola, what are you thinking!? If he doesn't cherish you and treats you badly, why are you still covering for him? If it were up to me, I'd kick him out! Neil Zhao isn't right for you!"
Unexpectedly, after hearing this, Lola burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably. Her tears washed away her thick makeup, revealing her true skin underneath.
Martin Wu looked at Lola's real skin and finally understood why she wore such thick makeup!
It turned out Lola's face was covered in bruises from being beaten, and the swelling hadn't gone down yet. That's why she had to use so much powder to cover it up!
"Lola, how did you get hurt like this!" Martin Wu quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe Lola's face, heartbroken as she examined the bruises. Angry, she said, "Neil Zhao, that bastard! A good girl marries him and he treats her like this! I'm going straight to Chancellor Evans to make sure Neil Zhao pays for this!"
"No, don't go, Martin Wu!" Lola desperately grabbed Martin Wu, pleading, "Please don't tell anyone! It's all my fault—I'm not pure, but my husband doesn't despise me. He hasn't divorced me, so I'm already lucky. If you make a fuss, Neil Zhao will definitely abandon me!"
"You're still clinging to an abusive man? Forget him leaving you—I say you shouldn't want him at all!" Martin Wu was so angry she was fuming, determined to tell Su Li.
Seeing that pleading didn't work, Lola dodged and blocked Martin Wu.
Martin Wu glared angrily, "Now you remember to use martial arts to stop me? When Neil Zhao was hitting you, why didn't you fight back? With your skills, Neil Zhao couldn't even touch your clothes—how could you let him hurt you like this!?"
Lola, however, was full of pleading and fear. "Martin Wu, you don't understand. I'm married to Neil Zhao now; I'm his wife. He hit me because he cares about me, because I lost my innocence and angered him, so he couldn't control his emotions. But... but he's usually pretty good to me..."
Martin Wu immediately interrupted her, "Good, my ass! I think you got hit so hard your brain stopped working!"
