I'm Not Afraid

Helen followed Shawn Young outside to help sort things out. She always knew her place—ever since she became Shawn’s girl, she just wanted to stick close to him and be his right-hand woman. So even before Shawn could say a word, the clever and experienced Helen would jump in and take care of whatever little hassles she could.

Just then, Shawn glanced over and saw Maggie Chang’s pale neck and arms, and her once-snowy legs covered in shocking whip marks. Her delicate skin was streaked with blood, looking so pitiful it made his heart ache. Remembering what he’d just said, Shawn hurried over to help her, asking with concern, "Maggie, you’re really badly hurt. That bastard Beast is a real animal! How could he be so vicious? Total psycho—"

"Ah—" Maggie couldn’t hold back anymore and threw herself into Shawn’s arms, sobbing her heart out. What she’d just been through was like a nightmare, and if Shawn hadn’t shown up like a miracle, she couldn’t even imagine what would’ve happened to her.

Minnie Wang, thinking about the terrifying scene earlier—how Maggie had been tortured by Beast to protect her—was so furious she rushed over to the unconscious Beast and stomped on his hairy face a few times. She cursed, "You bastard! Freak! You filthy pervert! That’s for hurting Maggie! Go to hell—"

"Maggie, you need treatment right away or you’ll end up with scars—" Shawn said, holding Maggie’s trembling body.

"I—I’m just lucky to be alive... At least Beast didn’t ruin me. Even if I look a little messed up now, I... I’ll deal with it," Maggie said, wiping her tears, feeling wronged.

"Maggie, don’t say that! I’ll figure out a way to get you back to normal—" Shawn hugged Maggie, who was crying like a rain-soaked flower, his heart aching for her.

"Yeah, totally! Maggie’s injuries aren’t to the bone, but a woman’s skin and looks are super important. Someone as gorgeous as Maggie—we’ve gotta do everything we can to help her look like herself again!" Minnie Wang chimed in.

"But I... I was hurt so badly by that beast, even if I heal, I’ll still have scars..." Maggie said sadly.

At that moment, Shawn Young had a flash of inspiration. He comforted Maggie Chang, "Don’t worry, Maggie. I’ve got a way to get you back to your old self—actually, you’ll be even more beautiful than before!"

"Huh? What kind of method? Is it really that amazing?" Before Maggie could reply, Minnie Wang couldn’t help but jump in, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"Mm-hmm—of course it works! But this method… well… it’s a little special—" Shawn said, blinking mischievously at Minnie.

"Special how? Just how special are we talking?" Minnie asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Shawn thought for a moment, then leaned in close to Minnie’s ear and whispered his "special method." As she listened, a shy blush crept across her pretty face. She gave him a gentle nudge, then asked in a soft, bashful voice, "Is your method really going to work?"

"Of course it works—when have I ever lied to you? Heh heh—" Shawn grinned at Minnie’s blushing face, secretly swallowing his excitement. He’d already made up his mind—this time, no matter what, he was going to "devour" her, so he wouldn’t have to keep yearning for her.

Minnie’s big, watery eyes gazed at Shawn. Seeing that eager, burning look in his eyes, she knew exactly what he was thinking. Her heart fluttered with shyness, but she blushed and whispered, "O-okay—let’s head back first. Solving Maggie’s problem is more important!"

"Alright! Maggie’s injury comes first!" Shawn hugged Maggie in his arms, feeling a surge of excitement—and a wicked little idea popped into his head, like hitting two birds with one stone.

It was as if Minnie could see right through his sneaky plans. She bit her rosy lips, marched over, and grabbed his arm. "Come on, you big rascal—always thinking naughty thoughts. We’ll talk when we get home!"

"Alright! Let’s head back right now—" Shawn’s sneaky plan had worked, and he was so excited he couldn’t help but hug Maggie’s slender waist, following Minnie Wang as the three of them left the basement. In the lobby, a crowd of Night Wanderer’s thug security guards were squatting with their hands on their heads, surrounded by a dozen fully armed navy special forces. There were also a bunch of Guangcheng City police officers working together. Nathan Holland was talking with the police chief, while Helen waited nearby for the handover.

Minnie Wang stepped up and took the sports car keys from Helen. Shawn quickly told Nathan Holland, who was busy, to help Helen handle things here. Once Minnie brought the car around to the club entrance, the three of them hopped in and sped off toward Nanming City.

Once they hit the highway, Minnie floored it and they raced along, finally reaching Nanming City just before nightfall. She parked in front of a small villa on the eastern outskirts, and got out with Shawn and Maggie. By then, Maggie was already sleeping peacefully in Shawn’s arms, so he just carried her out of the car.

Minnie glanced at Maggie, who was fast asleep, looking a little nervous. A gust of night wind made her shiver, and she whispered carefully to Shawn, "Maggie’s asleep. Why don’t we take her upstairs first?"

"Mm—okay—" Shawn saw Minnie was a bit tense and understood how she felt. He freed one hand, slipped his arm around her fragrant shoulder, and pulled her close. His strong hand and warm, masculine scent mixed with his body heat, wrapping Minnie up and melting away her anxiety.

A blush bloomed on Minnie’s pretty face. She could feel her heart thumping like a startled deer, filling her with a sweet, shy feeling only a girl would know. Right then, Shawn really did feel like her knight in shining armor.

"Minnie, are you... are you scared? Am I being too eager?" Shawn noticed Minnie’s soft, bouncy body trembling slightly in his arms.

"Mm, I’m not scared now. I was just a little nervous before, that’s all," Minnie replied, blushing.

"But I can feel you shaking... Are you too nervous? Should we maybe wait?" Shawn teased, worried he’d rushed things and scared Minnie.

"Don’t be ridiculous! I’m not nervous at all. It’s just the night—ugh, never mind. It’s chilly outside, that’s all. I’m not scared, I can totally handle this—let’s go upstairs!" Minnie’s face was burning red as she almost bit her lip to say it. Then she swiped the card and opened the door.
