Evan Chu knew this guy was about to try and seize his body. That white light was almost certainly meant to force his soul out, then let the other’s soul enter and take over his flesh.
Evan was caught in a dilemma. He couldn’t let the Yin–Yang Demon Empress’s soul enter his body, but he had to get her soul out of Selena’s body. For a moment, he had no idea what to do.
As soon as the white light entered his body, Evan felt a soul-rending pain, as if his soul was being torn apart. It was just like when he split his soul to create a Golden Body—agony so intense it felt like his heart was being ripped out.
Thinking of the Golden Body, an idea struck him—he could inject his soul into the Water Golden Body, making the enemy think his soul had been completely expelled. Then, once the Yin–Yang Demon Empress left Selena’s body, Goldwing could quickly snatch Selena’s shell, while Evan would immediately shift his soul back from the Golden Body into his own flesh.
Right now, this seemed like his only option. Once he was back in his body, he could summon Shadow to fight the Empress—even if Shadow couldn’t win, he could at least hold her off, giving Evan a chance to escape.
He acted as soon as the thought occurred. Evan’s face twisted in unbearable pain—his handsome features went pale, sweat poured down in big drops, and his facial muscles clenched so tightly he looked almost monstrous.
The Yin–Yang Demon Empress just laughed, “How does it feel? Like you’d be better off dead? Hang in there—soon it’ll stop hurting. Hahahaha!”
Evan didn’t have time to answer. Right now, his soul was entering the Water Golden Body, and the pain was many times worse than splitting his soul. Even with his tolerance for suffering, he nearly blacked out—but he knew that passing out now would ruin everything.
After a while, Evan’s soul fully entered the Water Golden Body. His flesh lost all sensation and collapsed to the ground, looking completely unconscious.
But the Water Golden Body’s divine sense was completely active, watching every move the Yin–Yang Demon Empress made. The Empress had no idea Evan had this trick up his sleeve—she was busy getting excited about the prospect of claiming such a heaven-defying body.
“Hahahaha! Now is the perfect moment for me to enter your body!” the Yin–Yang Demon Empress declared. With a flash of light, a mass of black mist emerged from Selena’s body—humanoid in shape, reeking so foul it could make anyone gag. But Evan couldn’t sense any of it now.
Once the Empress’s soul left Selena’s body, Selena collapsed to the ground, utterly motionless. Evan knew this was the critical moment—he instantly commanded Goldwing to take Selena away.
A flash of golden light burst out, and Goldwing appeared from Evan’s body. Moving faster than lightning, he flew to Selena, expanded to massive size, and grabbed her body in his huge talons, soaring into the sky.
Of course, Evan wouldn’t let the Empress’s soul enter his body. But right now, he had no power to attack—if he faced her with the Water Golden Body, he’d be no match. His only hope was for Shadow to stall her long enough for his soul to return from the Water Golden Body to his true flesh.
A streak of red light flashed out from Evan’s true body, and a giant lion appeared before him. The lion glanced at Evan, startled—this was the first time he’d ever seen his big brother unconscious. A tidal wave of rage erupted inside him.
“You hurt my big brother? Today you die!” Shadow roared, his whole body trembling with fury.
The Yin–Yang Demon Empress never imagined things would go wrong at this moment. Suddenly reduced to a soul-form, her attack power dropped sharply, while Shadow’s aura was terrifyingly strong—almost on par with her own.
She couldn’t understand why two powerful immortal beasts had appeared from Evan’s body in succession. It was just too bizarre—and it made her covet his flesh even more.
“You dare disrespect me, little lion? You’re dead today!” the Empress snarled, sending a mass of black mist hurtling toward Shadow.
Shadow saw the mist and instantly opened his jaws wide. With a deafening roar—his ultimate Lion’s Roar—the sound blasted the mist apart, scattering it completely.
The sheer force of the roar whipped up a tornado all around, blasting the Empress’s soul-body so far away that its whereabouts became unknown. It was impossible for Shadow to kill her in one blow, but driving her off like this was already a huge success.
Shadow glanced back at Evan, then instantly shifted into human form. “Big brother, what happened? How did you end up like this?” he cried out, face full of worry.
Evan was still busy guiding his soul back into his body and couldn’t answer. That only made Shadow more anxious—he scooped Evan up and flew straight toward the Immortal army’s main camp.
Almost at the same time, the Demonic Realm’s war drums sounded—the signal to withdraw. The second battle ended here. The Immortal army didn’t pursue; everyone knew better than to chase a desperate enemy. Besides, this war had drained them terribly, with many suffering serious injuries.
Shadow rushed straight into the camp. His sudden appearance confused many—he was a stranger to them. “Who are you? Why are you here?” Nolan Nangong blocked him and demanded.
But as he spoke, he saw Shadow carrying Evan and was shocked. “Linfeng—what happened to him? Speak up, or I’ll kill you!”
Shadow ignored Nolan completely. He spotted Yueyan Xuanyuan and the Ice Fairy—both familiar faces. “Sister-in-law, please save big brother! He’s in bad shape—I can’t wake him up no matter what I do.”
Just then, Goldwing arrived carrying Selena’s body. He hadn’t entered the camp earlier, worried about Evan’s safety and Selena’s condition, so he’d hidden her in a safe spot before returning to help Evan.
But by the time he got there, Evan was already gone. Hearing the withdrawal signal, Goldwing quickly brought Selena back—arriving a little later than Shadow.
Goldwing reverted to his true form in the camp. Evan and Selena lay quietly on the open ground. Yueyan Xuanyuan and the Ice Fairy turned pale at the sight. “Quick, go get Wei Qun—maybe he can save Linfeng!” the Ice Fairy urged.
