Verification of Identity

When Evan Chu took out the Phantasite he’d just obtained from the Tyrant Earthwyrm, both the elders at the tables and the commander showed expressions of shock and horror.

The elder in front of Evan glanced at the Phantasite in his hand and said, “You... you actually got such a huge Phantasite? How is that possible!”

Evan Chu sneered, “There are plenty of things people say are impossible. If others can get it, why can’t I? You really underestimate me. Don’t forget, I got the most wooden tokens, so of course I’d have the most Phantasite too. If you can’t figure out something that simple, you’ve wasted all these years of your life.” Evan said dismissively, not even bothering to take this elder seriously.

“You—you’re going too far! Don’t think you can get cocky just because you’ve done well. In Grimchart City, you aren’t the one who gets to run wild!” The elder snapped furiously, never expecting to be mocked by a snot-nosed brat today.

“Old geezer, you really must be tired of living. This isn’t the time to waste words with me—just announce the results, the people behind are still waiting.” Evan Chu said.

At this moment, the elder wished he could kill Evan Chu on the spot; the anger in his eyes could have destroyed him instantly. "The total Phantasite you obtained is five hundred and fifteen pieces, putting you in first place for now."

Evan Chu smiled and was about to leave, but just then the commander walked over and said, “Who are you, really? Among the Ghost Clan’s rising stars, I don’t recall anyone like you. Even though you’re in first place, if you don’t explain yourself, you won’t be leaving here today.”

Evan Chu glanced at the commander and said, “Who am I? Obviously I’m Ghost Clan. What, seeing me take first place makes you jealous? Shouldn’t you be happy that Grimchart City has someone as outstanding as me?”

The commander smiled, “You’ve hidden yourself well, but you’re still a bit green in front of me. The ghost-qi on you does make people believe you’re Ghost Clan, but it’s extremely complicated—like it’s made up of the ghost-qi from many different Ghost Clan members. If I’m not mistaken, you must have some way of absorbing ghost-qi, so no one can tell your true identity.

Too bad you ran into me. I know ghost-qi better than anyone. Not only do you have a problem, but that woman from earlier does too—except her ghost-qi is very pure, while yours is extremely mixed. Show your real identity, or don’t blame me for taking action.”

Evan Chu hadn’t expected things to turn out like this; if he’d known, he would’ve kept a lower profile. But if he’d kept his head down, he couldn’t have beaten Faye Knox, which was pretty damn frustrating.

“I really am Ghost Clan. If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do. Or are you planning to kill me just because I did too well, so your own cronies can go to Blackspirit City?” Evan Chu said, bracing himself.

“Fine, since you won’t explain yourself, I have another way to prove your true identity. In the Ghost Clan we have two kinds of liquor—one is called Ghostwine, the other is Redwine. If you drink Ghostwine, all your ghost-qi will vanish without a trace. But if you’re really Ghost Clan, drinking Redwine will immediately restore your ghost-qi. So, if you say you’re Ghost Clan, do you dare drink this Ghostwine?” the commander said.

Evan Chu immediately replied, “Why wouldn’t I dare? If I really am Ghost Clan, what kind of explanation will you give me, Commander?”

“An explanation? If you can prove you’re innocent, of course I’ll give you one. If not, you’ll have to leave your life here today.” the commander snapped, furious that someone dared talk back to him—clearly didn’t know his place.

At that moment, a middle-aged man descended from the sky, glanced at Evan Chu, and said, “If you’re Ghost Clan, I’ll personally send you to Blackspirit City to meet the Ghost King, and you’ll become his personal disciple. If not, then just as he said—you’ll die here.”

“Lin Feng, both Ghostwine and Redwine are special liquors. If a Ghost Clan member drinks Ghostwine, all their ghost-qi will disappear and their true form will show. But if you drink Redwine and there’s no ghost-qi to absorb, you’ll be exposed instantly. You need to think this through,” Luna said.

“Is there any way around this? If my identity gets exposed, there’ll be a huge fight, and getting the Netherghost Violet Orchid will be almost impossible.” Evan Chu said helplessly.

“I don’t have a way either. Looks like you’ll have to fight these guys head-on. But with your strength, you don’t need to fear them. Even if you can’t enter Blackspirit City, you can still get the Netherghost Violet Orchid from the city lord. Once you break through to a higher realm, you can go to Blackspirit City later,” Luna said.

“Alright then, I’ve been wanting to see just how strong a Venerable Martial Realm expert really is. Guess the plan failed this time—let’s show them what I can do.” Evan Chu said.

Evan Chu looked at the middle-aged man and smiled, “You must be the city lord of Grimchart City. As expected, a true powerhouse. Since you all doubt me so much, bring out the Ghostwine. Today, I’ll make you all admit I’m the real deal.”

In the crowd, Faye Knox was extremely worried. She hadn’t expected the whole mess to be exposed by Evan Chu. If she hadn’t competed with him, none of this would’ve happened. Now it was far too late for regrets.

She’d already decided: if Evan Chu’s identity was exposed and he was attacked, she would fight alongside him and break out of the encirclement to return to the Netherkin. With his strength, he’d surely be accepted once he got back.

Everyone watched this dramatic scene unfold. If this youth wasn’t Ghost Clan, he had to be a spy from some other race. To sneak in with so much effort, there must be some secret. Under the Ghost Clan’s Heart-Eroding Bone-Corroding torture, even the toughest would break—then his true identity would be revealed.

“Bring out the Ghostwine! Today I want to see if our Ghost Clan hero can pass this trial. If we really misunderstood you, you can take anything you want from Grimchart City. But if you’re not Ghost Clan, don’t blame me for being ruthless!” the middle-aged man said sternly.

Soon, the commander produced a black wine bottle. “Kid, this is Ghostwine. If you can drink it and recover afterward, that’s the end of it. If not—heh—you’ll die a miserable death.”

Evan Chu snatched the bottle, popped the cork, and was immediately hit by a strong scent of wine. Just a whiff made his head spin—clearly, this was no ordinary liquor.

“Lin Feng, don’t drink it—this wine isn’t ordinary. I sense it’s not Ghostwine, but Soulburn Wine. I’ve never tasted Ghostwine, but I know its liquor is green and doesn’t need a black bottle. Only Soulburn Wine comes in a black bottle, and its scent causes dizziness. That’s what you’re smelling now,” Luna warned.
