Gregory Gu Jr. had never felt such a burning desire from the depths of his heart; his body was so heated it felt as if it might burst into flames.

The woman before him was the one he desired most in his life—Lily Evans, the wife of Alexander Hayes.

But soon, the Emperor would capture and execute Alexander Hayes with lightning speed, leaving Lily Evans a widow.

Lily Evans would become a widow—a stunning, alluring widow...

Gregory Gu Jr. had always thought himself a gentleman, but right now, he couldn’t believe he was actually aroused by a woman who was six months pregnant!

Whether it was the stifling heat or the knowledge that Lily Evans would soon no longer belong to another man, Gregory Gu Jr. felt a restless agitation surge through his whole body.

His eyes greedily fixed on Lily Evans—and her rounded belly.

She was Lily Evans, wife of Alexander Hayes, and that was Alexander Hayes’s unborn child.

Suddenly, Gregory Gu Jr.'s mind flooded with indecent images—scenes of him bullying Lily Evans, Alexander Hayes’s pregnant wife—that made his blood boil!

A flash of clarity passed through Gregory Gu Jr.'s eyes—he suddenly realized just how much of a beast he was becoming!

But it was only for a fleeting moment.

Then, Gregory Gu Jr. strode briskly into the inner chamber, heading straight for Lily Evans!

As Gregory Gu Jr. entered, his body brushed past the beaded curtain, the tinkling sound making Lily Evans open her eyes.

In an instant, her clear, dark eyes, tinged with a hint of mockery, extinguished all the flames in Gregory Gu Jr.'s body, flooding him with a rational shame.

Gregory Gu Jr. froze in his tracks.

Lily Evans looked at him and spoke, "It was you who betrayed me, wasn’t it? You told the Emperor about Professor Jade Evans’s true identity?"

Gregory Gu Jr. took a deep breath. "Since you already know, there’s no point in denying it."

"Well then, Grand Tutor Gu. That position—my identity—was something your grandfather begged me for, insisted I take. I never imagined you’d stoop so low, using this as your leverage to strike at the Prince of Qin’s household." Lily Evans looked at Gregory Gu Jr., a mocking smile on her lips. "Grand Tutor Gu, I must have really overestimated you. I knew you weren’t a saint, but I thought at least you’d have a shred of filial piety, that you wouldn’t betray your grandfather’s wishes. I was wrong. Completely wrong. Your grandfather isn’t even gone, and you couldn’t wait to expose my identity, to use it against the Prince of Qin’s household. Grand Tutor Gu, how could you do this? Can you face Dean Gu? Can your conscience rest easy?"

Gregory Gu Jr. turned his head away, refusing to meet Lily Evans’s clear gaze. "Court politics are a battle—winner takes all. I’ve fought the Prince of Qin’s household for years, and now they’ve lost to me. That’s all there is to it. Lily, no matter how much you call me despicable or heartless, what does it matter? Alexander Hayes is defeated by me. The Prince of Qin’s household is crushed by me. And the Phoenix Academy in your hands? It’s coming back to me."

"Lily, you’re too naive. The process never matters—only the outcome! And the outcome is this: your husband is about to die, and the Prince of Qin’s household is utterly defeated." Gregory Gu Jr.'s eyes burned with a crazed light as he stepped closer and closer to the bed, closing in on Lily Evans.
