Chapter 1281

By now, everyone knows that Farrow is the chief manager of the Gilded Rose. Even Heaven-tier powerhouses don’t dare put on airs in front of Farrow—when you have enough gold coins, you really can kill someone with them...

These days, Leon’s research into the Runes of Truth has grown increasingly profound. The mysteries he’s grasped are gradually being transformed into alchemical results, and it’s finally time to start experimenting with real materials...

There aren’t enough materials on hand; what he has is incomplete. To get everything he needs, he’ll have to rely on Farrow to procure them. Still, some experiments can begin right away...

Just then, Dean Gandalf arrived once more.

Ever since meeting Dean Gandalf, Leon had heard plenty of rumors about him: one of Astral Academy’s three Saint Alchemist Deans, known as the White Robe Alchemist. The title isn’t just because Gandalf always wears white—it’s a testament to his power and alchemical mastery.

Hundreds of years ago, the last time Gandalf made a move, he was already Heaven-tier Level 5. So many years have passed—no one believes a Saint Alchemist would remain stuck at Heaven-tier Level 5. Alchemy as truth isn’t just a slogan.

When studying alchemy, researching laws and the world’s mysteries is almost the same as directly studying the laws themselves. It’s just that an alchemist’s methods differ from those of ordinary mages.

A powerful mage isn’t necessarily a powerful alchemist, but a powerful alchemist is always a powerful mage. That’s a truth long since proven.

Of Astral Academy’s three Saint Alchemist Deans, not one was below Heaven-tier Level 5 when they were sanctified. Plenty of mages wear white robes, but there’s only one White Robe Alchemist—Dean Gandalf.

Dean Gandalf strolled into Leon’s alchemy lab with a cheerful smile. Leon immediately stopped his calculations.

"Dean Gandalf, are we really about to meet that person now? At least give me a heads-up—who exactly are we going to see? Let me prepare myself mentally..."

Gandalf smiled faintly, sidestepping the question.

"Young people are always so impatient. That’s not good. You’ll find out when the time comes. I’m not here for that today—I’ve come as an alchemist."

Since Gandalf put it that way, Leon couldn’t press further, though his curiosity gnawed at him. If Gandalf was sent as a messenger, the person in question must be someone of remarkable status...

"Hmm, this is the counter-reaction method for brewing alchemical potions. Archmage Leon, you’ve actually mastered this technique?"

Gandalf glanced at the draft paper Leon had written and instantly recognized the technique. The counter-reaction method isn’t something just any creator can master—it requires at least two, sometimes a dozen, ingredients with opposing properties. The process is extremely unstable.

The ingredients must collide and annihilate each other, and only what remains after their destruction becomes the main component of the potion. Even skilled creators struggle to pull off a successful counter-reaction between two ingredients.

That’s because the technique demands an extraordinary grasp of alchemy and ingredients. If the slightest difference in properties isn’t calculated precisely, or the process isn’t perfectly controlled, the whole attempt will fail...

And now, Leon was calculating a counter-reaction involving eight major ingredients...

A trace of admiration appeared on Gandalf’s face.

"I didn’t expect Archmage Leon to have reached the pinnacle of creation—and even surpassed it. These eight ingredients, the counter-reaction is no easy feat. The calculations alone could take years. Using three of them together for a counter-reaction is a bold move..."

Leon shook his head.

"These three ingredients are mutually antagonistic. Combine any two and you get a deadly poison. But if you calculate the quantities precisely, the counter-reaction will transform their toxicity into massive energy..."

After a few words, Gandalf whisked Leon away. When it comes to alchemy, Leon never backs down—he explained his theories and designs without hesitation...

Once they started discussing alchemy, the debate lasted three days—covering everything from alchemical potions to magic artifacts, and then to alchemical golems...

"The Full Right-Angle Magic Reaction Core design has its merits, but the burst of magical power might be limited. Its endurance is greater, but the critical explosive output is somewhat weaker..."

"Any magic reaction core should be judged by its overall performance. The full right-angle design allows for more intense reactions, resulting in stronger magical output and greater endurance. It’s an overall enhancement..."

"But the energy transmission of arc-shaped alchemical glyphwork is stronger. If you combine a magic reaction core with explosive output and reinforce it with arc-shaped glyphs, an alchemical golem’s burst power could increase two to threefold..."

"That means the material requirements jump at least three grades. With those materials, you could forge a magic reaction core ten times more powerful..."

Gandalf and Leon were like two mad researchers, hunched over opposite sides of the crystal table, locked in a fierce debate. Suddenly, Gandalf laughed, his gaze at Leon filled with deep admiration...

What a terrifying young man—whether it’s alchemical potions, magic artifacts, alchemical golems, or alchemical arrays, his mastery is formidable. Most frightening of all, he’s thorough in his thinking, applying knowledge from potions to golems, achieving the greatest results with minimal cost.

Yet he’s not trapped by that mindset. He’ll use high-cost methods to achieve the strongest effects, but always considers future upgrades. That’s what’s truly terrifying...

He’s barely in his thirties. For a Heaven-tier powerhouse, life is just beginning. If he reaches Saint Alchemist before age one hundred, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. His knowledge is vast and powerful, and as an alchemist, his foresight and creativity are rare indeed...

An alchemist who loses creativity becomes nothing but a craftsman. But him—he’s destined to become a Saint Alchemist. The only difference is how soon...

Gandalf stared at Leon in a daze, recalling his own path to becoming a Saint Alchemist. His expression grew complex.

Leon was still arguing passionately when he noticed Gandalf suddenly fall silent...

Leon gave an awkward smile and stopped too. He didn’t think he’d convinced Gandalf—after all, as a Saint Alchemist, Gandalf had truly broadened Leon’s horizons. Even when Leon brought up knowledge from the future, Gandalf could instantly spot its strengths and weaknesses, and even extrapolate further...

Many of Leon’s immature ideas were perfected in his discussions with Gandalf. Leon even subtly revealed some components from the Sanctuary Tower, and Gandalf was able to offer advice.
