Yolanda Fang clung to Lynn Chen's arm, eyeing Evan Lin as he found a spot and sat down.
Evan looked utterly calm, as if he didn’t care about anything at all.
"Hey, aren’t you worried Liam Li or Buck Niu will come after you for revenge?"
Yolanda knew about Buck Niu—he was from No. 2 High too. She’d heard all about how Evan once got KO’d by Buck with one punch. Back at Imperial Grand, she’d even laughed about it with Sisi Shao and Lynn Chen.
But in the blink of an eye, Evan had just kicked down Buck Niu, the supposed king of No. 2 High, and even stomped Jason Zhao for good measure—no warning, no fuss.
"I’m only worried their backup won’t survive a single punch from me," Evan sighed, sounding bored.
In his last life, he’d been the Nine Mysteries Immortal Lord—one of the most omnipotent beings on the Immortal Martial Continent. And now? He was dealing with Buck Niu, Jason Zhao, Liam Li... clowns barely stronger than ants.
Even now, with his powers depleted and spiritual qi thin, Evan just couldn’t muster any real interest.
Honestly, what he wanted most was a fight he could really sink his teeth into.
"Yeah, sure, keep bragging. But you’d better be ready. Liam Li’s really protective of Jason Zhao. Since you beat up Jason, I doubt Liam will just let it go. If I’m right, he’ll probably call in Zane Zhan from First High’s Judo Club." Yolanda glanced at Evan and couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his cocky attitude.
"Zane Zhan?"
Before Evan could react, Lynn Chen—who’d been silent and conflicted—suddenly snapped to attention.
"Yeah, Lynn, you must know him from First High, right? Zane Zhan’s dad is the deputy district chief, and Liam Li’s dad is the current district chief—basically Zane’s boss. Now Liam’s dad might get promoted to deputy mayor, so if Liam asks Zane to step in, Zane’s got every reason to help out." Yolanda said seriously.
Lynn Chen frowned, then shot Evan a fierce glare. "See? Why’d you have to hit Jason Zhao again just now? You’re just asking for trouble."
"Zane Zhan hasn’t shown up at First High in ages. I heard from the teachers he’s off training with some master for the National Judo Championship. If he actually comes back just for you, what are you gonna do?" Lynn stared hard at Evan.
"Is Zane Zhan really that strong?" Evan shook his head. "I don’t know much about judo, but for someone like him, one hand’s more than enough."
Lynn was so mad at Evan’s stubbornness her teeth itched, but thinking back to how easily he’d just taken down Buck Niu—and how he’d shown off at Imperial Grand—she figured maybe Zane Zhan wouldn’t be a big deal for him after all.
"Don’t be so sure. What if Zane brings his master along? His master’s a national-level judo champ—he could wipe the floor with everyone at Imperial Grand." Yolanda glanced at Evan, annoyed by his indifference, and just wanted to mess with him.
But Evan didn’t care at all. Instead, he pointed at the fish pond and turned to Summer Mu: "Hey, where can I get a fishing rod? I feel like fishing for a bit."
He didn’t bother responding to the others at all.
Yolanda was so annoyed, she almost wanted to grab Evan by the collar and yell in his ear again—but she just kept it to herself.
Summer Mu took Evan to get fishing rods—four rods and four boxes of bait—then they found a quiet corner to sit down.
Yolanda loved fishing, but Lynn Chen wasn’t interested at all. She just handed her rod to Yolanda, who happily started fiddling with both rods.
Evan sat not far away, quietly fishing.
Lynn kept sneaking glances at him, resting her chin in her hand.
If Evan hadn’t shown up just now, she’d probably be nursing a stomp injury from Buck Niu.
She never expected Jason Zhao to suddenly drag her over as a human shield.
Compared to that, it was Evan—the guy with the ever-darkening face—who’d actually saved her.
Time drifted by. The afternoon was getting a bit hot.
After Jason Zhao finished getting his wounds bandaged, Liam Li and the others came over—but they stuck close to Yolanda and Lynn, instinctively keeping their distance from Evan.
Liam Li’s gaze flickered when he looked at Evan; Jason Zhao was just seething with resentment.
"Hey, move it—you’re blocking my breeze." Yolanda shot Jason Zhao a sharp look, her tone unfriendly.
Jason Zhao froze, his face turning even uglier.
He was about to snap back when Liam Li grabbed his arm and pulled him a few steps away.
Liam wasn’t happy about Jason dragging Lynn in as a human shield, but he had no choice—he still had to take Jason’s side.
"Seriously, who goes out without a single cent and then starts fights? What a joke." Lillian Wang said loudly from a distance, pretending not to care but making sure everyone heard.
"Yeah, not only does he hit others, he even hits his own people. Is he brain-dead or what?" Maggie Ma chimed in.
"He’s just jealous—of people who have money and look better than him. What a bumpkin." Cathy Li added, joining the chorus.
Simon Li handed out drinks to everyone except Evan and Summer Mu. He snorted, "I’ve never seen anyone act like that in my life."
All that gossip drifted over to Summer Mu. He frowned, turned to Evan, and asked curiously, "Why are you even friends with them?"
"They’re not my friends. Just a bunch of nobodies." Evan shook his head. He was supposed to be off collecting money from the Xiao family right now—if Lucy Lu hadn’t asked him for help, and if Yolanda hadn’t dragged him along, he wouldn’t even be here.

"So you’re not even a little mad?"
All those comments from Maggie Ma and the others sounded harsh even to Summer Mu, just an onlooker. But Evan—the guy they were talking about—looked totally unfazed.
With Evan’s skills, beating them up would be child’s play.
"Why bother? Crushing ants is easy, but honestly, it’s just boring."
Evan yawned, gazing calmly out at the lake.
It was like those people didn’t even exist in Evan’s eyes. Even when he’d stomped on Jason Zhao, it was only because Jason suddenly lashed out and used Lynn as a shield.
As for taking out Buck Niu, that was just because Buck was about to kick Lynn.
To Evan, all the right and wrong here was simple—he was only involved for Lucy Lu’s sake.
"In the private room, Henry Zhang was guzzling his own booze. That was your idea, wasn’t it?"
Evan spoke calmly. Summer Mu was momentarily stunned.
"At first I just wanted to break his legs. That hasn’t changed."
Summer Mu’s face turned awkward. Even though he was older than Evan, he realized he couldn’t read Evan at all.
"But if we don’t see him later, I’ll let it go for your sake. If we do see him, it’ll depend on his attitude—if he’s polite, we’ll talk. If not..."
"Then he’s out of luck."
Evan shook his head and slowly stood up.
He gripped his fishing rod and suddenly pulled hard.
The rod arched in midair, the line slicing the water below, instantly pulled taut.
The next moment—
A carp nearly a meter long burst out of the water, following the taut fishing line.
"Holy crap, that’s a wild king carp!"
Someone nearby saw the scene and couldn’t help but cry out in shock.
Summer Mu only saw Evan’s calm face, and the splashes blooming on the pond’s surface.
